hi everyone today I am sharing 11 different berri that I’m growing in my usual sized Suburban Garden these berries provide us a supply of nutritious food from April to August which is for 5 months of the year and yes I planned it this way intentionally to make sure my Urban Food Forest yields something each month throughout this video I will share which berries are easier to grow which ones are high maint which ones fruit early on after planting and which ones give you huge yield per plant you will be surprised by the list of high maintenance ones I hope you will get some great examples from this video to achieve your own self-sufficiency goals let’s begin honey berries are the first ones to produce in April they are also called as hasc cap berries if you have been struggling to grow blueberries in colder climate honeyberry is your friend it is Hardy from Zone 2 to 8 to me it tasted just like a blueberry you do need a pollinator for this plant I am growing blue mousse and blue Palm honey berry I planted these in June 2020 and these were just very tiny sticks at that time so they needed time to grow to this size and now in April 2024 is the first time these have produced a few berries I am expecting more berries next next year this plant can grow up to 4 ft to 7 ft in height and width so give it space this Berry is relatively low maintenance hinaki red Gooseberry it is an exotic type of Gooseberry it starts making fruits as soon as spring starts the fruits start out green in April but towards the end of May they begin to change color an important tip for all berries they’re not ripe the moment they change color it takes an additional few days to get sweetness after the color starts changing we Harvest Gooseberry in first week of June the Gooseberry that are completely ripe are sweet and taste and have amazing fruit punch like Flavor this Berry is relatively low maintenance I spread an all-purpose organic fertilizer around it in Spring and that is all this plant is Hardy from Zone 3 to8 and it is self-pollinating it can grow up to 5 ft wide so I have given it enough space I am starting five blackberry plants in these large containers but I have grown them in containers in the past also my kids loved harvesting it and it was juicy and very sweet blackberries make suckers which are more branches traveling underground and spreading this is the reason I grow them in containers I do not wanted to pop up in my neighbor’s yard blackberries make berries on one yearold branches so I won’t get any this year hopefully next year we will get some decent Harvest blackberries need pruning to take out the older canes that made berries last year so I would keep it in the middle when it comes to maintenance blackberries are self-pollinating and if you find the right variety I believe these are Hardy from Zone 4 to 7 towards the back of my yard I’m making a berry garden this is where the honey berries are one growing on each side behind the honey berry on left side I have black current going I planted it at the same time as honey berry in June 2020 and it was also like a small stick with roots so it took some time to grow it is a pretty plant and I have seen it growing beautifully in front yard in my neighborhood so good candidate for Edible Landscaping they start ripening in early June as well the rip ones are delicious currents are Hardy from Zone 3 to 8 and are self-pollinating but they may be restricted in some states because of a diseases related Pines so check online before ordering any this Berry is relatively low maintenance I spread an all-purpose organic fertilizer around it in Spring and that is all there are white currents and red currents available as well on the other side of this berry garden I have yasta Berry growing again planted at the same time as honey berry this year is the first time this one has made flowers and these flowers are very pretty yasta Berry is a mix between currant and Gooseberry I cannot give a reference of its taste yet but hopefully I will know soon as these are supposed to ripen in July as well yasta Berry is self-pollinating and grows in zone 4 to 7 this Berry is relatively low maintenance this whole garden gets about 3 to 4 hours of Sun but generally these smaller berries are fine with it even in Wild you will find them growing at the edges where they get both sun and shade I am growing bush cherries here these are Romeo and Juliet variety again got them as thin sticks and Bernies have done some damage to them but they are putting a lot of growth this year these are too small to produce but we have some Le this Cherry at Kansas City community garden and it tastes so good so sweet eventually these will grow 5 ft wide and 7 ft tall the amazing thing about these is that they are Hardy even in zone 2 they are supposed to provide cherries in mid August bush cherries are self-pollinating but I got two for each side of this patch I will plant some flowers in between the two I’m growing raspberries in container on my deck these are the kind that keeps producing all summer I think the variety I have here is Caroline fall bearing this year I pruned them in early spring so I am expecting berries in August and then all the way into fall the berry flavor is good and size is good they seem to do fine in containers but I won’t say that I’m harvesting bushels of berries they do make suckers which is why I have them in containers so that they don’t spread around rasp berries are self-pollinating and with right variety you can grow them from Zone 3 to 8 next is service Berry also called as June Berry and many of you may already have it in your yard this is actually a native plant to most of the areas in USA this Berry is relatively low maintenance and if you pick the correct variety it is from Zone 2 to 7 these are partially self-pollinating and is a good tree for shade garden I ordered three Standing Ovation variety and these were doing great the berry tasted better than blueberry to me in fact here is my reaction to when I ate these the first time I’ve harvested these June berries and they say that this is these are the alternative for blueberries so you know what let me try the ripest one first and I’ll tell you how it tastes so this this looks like a first best one to start with guys you know what it’s worth you should taste it it’s amazing uh uh not exactly blueberry you know what I’ll call it better than blueberry how about that that that’s it is it is good sadly we had some construction work done and lost those three trees during that process I’m looking for new trees but not happy with what I found so far but I will plant it again once I find the right one grapes made this list too because believe it or not grapes are berries I have two varieties growing and last year I got nearly 15 lbs of grapes from these two wines this Berry needs more maintenance they need some initial work to train and prune properly but once you have the wines established properly it’s an abundance of fruit I have covered everything about grapes in another video I will link it in description next is is blueberries I planted four plants in my front yard out of which three are still alive they seem to have a good start this year loaded with lots of berries I will tell you this it was a lot of work to plant these because we have clay soil and this plant loves acidic soil I spread soil acidifier around it every month from Spring to July so slightly more maintenance than other Berry plants but my kids love it the the birds love it and steal it and it looks very pretty in Fall blueberries fruit for us in the middle of June again I have a full video dedicated to how I planted these so check it out I will link it below last one on this list is strawberries for all other berries I had to wait 1 to 3 years to start producing but strawberries are exception to this rule they will give you berries in first year itself but you need a patch of it to get decent amount of berries so they need more space as compared to other berries also they will make lots of baby plants which will try to spread so you need to work on controlling them it is more work as compared to other berries June bearing strawberries make fruit for us in the mid of May and it is a decent Harvest I’m linking the how to grow strawberries video here in which I covered all the details about how to plant it care for it Harvest it and propagate it check it out next I would truly appreciate if you can support this channel by liking this video sharing it commenting on it and subscribing it would help this channel a lot thank you so much for your support

  1. A nice and meaningful video. I saw so many varieties of berries which I never knew the types of berries. I want to know how did you control the pest attack on the plants. I hope you are not using pesticides. Plz let me know. In totality a nice video quite meaningful for garden lovers. Thanks.
