hey y’all welcome back to another episode of a gardeners Journey Homestead I am Barbara thank you so much for stopping by my Channel today if you are new I am in Tennessee in zone 7B uh my husband and I we also have two children one’s away at College one’s at home that’s in high school but we live on 75 acres of land we don’t Farm on that much but we do live on 75 acres of land we have three main growing spaces which is our hot tunnel then we have an in inground garden and then we also have five raised beds in the back of my house which is where I am now but in today’s video we’re going to be setting up our third green stalk and the reason why I’m excited about this one is because this is my first time doing doing the original so I’ve shown you some previous green stalks before both of the ones that I have set up are Leaf which are the smaller Pockets this is the original and I think the pockets are 10 Deep and so we’re going to set this up and we’re also going to get it planted and this will be our final green stock to be planted for this summer so I’m excited let me show you um what we decided to put the green stock on based on your suggestions I was wondering like where should I put this green stock how am I going to keep it stabilized and all that so let me show you what we decided [Music] [Music] okay so you see the P the p is 16 by 16 no it might be 24 by 24 I think it’s a 24 P um so the green so should fit perfectly on here let’s just check and make sure um oh yeah perfect perfect perfect perfect okay so I have the ultimate spinner base here if you haven’t seen me talk about this before game changer don’t buy don’t buy another grain stock without buying the ultimate spinner kit so I’m going to get the the wheels on here for the spinner we’re going to set up the green so right here and this is going to be a perfect base for it I still got space around it so let me get the wheels on here and get this set up [Music] so in setting up the ultimate spinner kit it comes with six wheels you just want to alternate there are three locking wheels and three non-locking wheels you just want to alternate locking non-locking locking non-locking and there’s a um it tells you where to put the wheels it’s all pretty simple if I can do it anybody can do it this not my this not my area right um okay so now we’re going to grab the green stock um base EXC excuse me not the base the first tier and start filling it with soil okay so this is tier one if you seen my other videos you can see that there is a huge difference between the size of these Pockets versus the leaf so if you’re brand new to Green stock green stock is a vertical container gardening system you can basically grow up and you can grow in a two like a twoot space so if you’re sh short on Space have a patio have a deck or just don’t have a lot of space green sock is a great option but they have two kinds the leaf and the original this is the original it’s um 10 Pockets deep 10 Pockets deep 10 in deep and with the original there are 1 two three um six Pockets spaces five tiers so we can get 30 plants so let’s just start um filling her up and then we’ll start planting [Music] okay guys you can see we got them all filled so the difference that I’m going to do today when I did my other videos um for this summer season we put the green stock together and then I went back and I planted it this time before I actually assemble it I’m going to plant it and that way that part will be done to me it’s easier to do it that way not that you can’t do it the other way but to me it’s easier to get down in the pockets and go ahead and plant it and then stack it um so that’s what we’re going to do today so let’s figure out what we’re going to plant okay so the beauty of the original is because the pockets are deeper we can plant some bigger things if you go on GreenStar garden.com and I think it’s under faq’s it is the very first question about what can you plant in the green stock and I think um I don’t know but it’s hyperlink and you can click here and it has a whole list of things to plant in the original versus the leaf so you can plant tomatoes and peppers in the original because the pockets are 10 in versus I think in the leaf is 7 in so we’re going to um do some different stuff I’ve never had an original so let’s get to it so the first thing I’m going to do is I’m going to plant some flowers um on the bottom is what I’m going to do and again we’re we’re having fun we’re experimenting so I got some Dums and some merry go so let’s start with that y’all see I got my little water trays in here so I don’t forget them W Max want to be right beside my thing I don’t know but let’s get our ners in here on the bottom and I think we’ll alternate noam’s merry gos this is I got three ner and three Maro so that’s perfect for this level so I have lemon tangerine maros and it’s a smaller petite variety which is perfect smells so good I y’all have I told you how much I love this spinner I love this spinner and the merry go we’ll repel a couple of things which is good so we’ll have that on the bottom okay that’s a closeup so we’ll have marry go alternated with nerum that’s the first level now let’s decide we’re going to put on the second level in my mind um I I feel like the tomatoes and peppers should be up above and not so far on the ground because they’re going to grow I don’t know if that’s the right way to think it’s my first time y’all we just we just playing together but I think on the next level um let’s try basil and maybe some cayenne pepper let me go let me let me go look at all my seedings and see what I have and and I’m so excited let’s go see what we have and figure out what we’re going to do next [Music] okay guys we got it all planned my husband’s helping me put it in here I’ll go through each one once he places them and try to tell you what’s what [Music] [Music] okay y’all I can tell the difference between the original because I mean the original trying to show out like it’s taller than me I mean it’s my height I was watching somebody else that you guys recommended um Kim Cozy Corner cuz she has like I don’t know 11 green socks so you guys when I was ask you um who has a lot of green stocks many of you mentioned her so I went and watch some of her videos this weekend um and she had I think it’s called the inventur bundle where she has a mix and match the leaf and the original and she was talking about how she was short and she didn’t want to have to you know get the top now I see what she means because it’s it’s right at my height but that’s okay we’re going to make it work so let me show you what all we have planted um in the third green stock so let’s see if I can and so on the bottom row I had already showed you we alternated between marry Go’s and nerum so that’s the bottom tier this tier right here I have basil lemon balm uh-oh let’s get you in there buddy thyme another basil and another lemon bomb and another time so this row is all herbs this level here then when you move up to this level here have another basil this is um Emerald Delight zucchini it’s from Botanical interest and it’s a compact variety so I’m going to see how it does I have a marry go I have a this one doesn’t have a label but I think this is this is either a Sano or a golden sweet Italian this is a tie red chili and then this is the first tomato point so this is normally my Greenhouse that’s a Secura which is a cherry tomato now green sock says you can plant tomatoes in these I just my brain is not letting me compute how cuz I I know how big my tomatoes get I’m like how’s it going to grow in this green stock and I know they have like those plant supports that you can put around them I haven’t seen a green stock with the plant supports with plants on them like on Kim’s Cozy Corner she had them around hers but on the video I saw they hadn’t grown yet so I need just see what that looks like cuz I can’t imagine that in my mind um so that’s that level and then on 1 2 3 fourth level this is let’s see Cayenne two cayen there two cayenne peppers there Yaro which is a flour almond paprika and then we back to the cayenne and then at the very top I have a Dalia flour I have I think these are yeah three tie red chili no three sorrano golden sweet Italian and then another Secura so I kind of did the taller plant near the top versus the bottom but it’s done y’all it is done there is our third green stock um original so now I’m about to water it in for its first time and and get the dust off of it cuz I’ve had it for a while I’m just now doing it and just like that we have three green stocks for the summer so the one behind me the um Brown is full of strawberries and I showed you the Evergreen basket the leaf that has our um flowers and herbs and things like that our basket weave um and Evergreen that has like mostly flowers and herbs and lettuce in it and then this one is like our um bigger vegetables I meant to put lettuce in there but I didn’t but I got plenty of lettuce excuse me in this one and I think ideally when I can move them it won’t be this year but maybe when the season is over I’ll put my two Evergreens there and then we’ll put the brown one here but for now it’s going to stay just like that and oh let me show you guys this hold on let me grab something I wanted to show you um this planting soil that I got at Walmart um today it still has something in it Whitney Farms it’s organic planting soil now I use that to kind of top off and to supplement I mostly used Happy Frog and back toe in the greenstalk Happy Frog is the one that greenstalk actually recommends for the green stock but yeah we use we use what we have but y’all know I use Happy Frog and back toe anyway when I’m not making my own but it takes a lot more soil to fill these up and I saw this at Walmart and it has some good ingredients so I bought it and again because it’s my green stock and not like at my ground Garden like these are like extra I get food from them it’s extra extra flowers brings extra Beauty and all that if I get some produce that’s extra I’m not counting on it like I am my tunnel and my inground Garden so again remember I will take a risk but I’m always intentional about my risk in the garden and I would encourage you to do the same because if for some reason the soil is bad it’s just isolated to this green stock right here it’s not all over my whole yard but let me show you this is 1 cubic feet and it was like $648 a bag it’s organic it’s omry certified and it has Alfalfa Mill and kelp meal in it as well as Pete Moss and H there was another one but anyway go check it out at your local Walmart Walmart is like trying to step up their game I guess on soil because they have a lot of new soils this year that they haven’t had before um I also picked up a new one from Home Depot last week that was organic it was like in this purplish pinkish bag but I didn’t like the texture of it so that’s why I didn’t tell you about it I’m I’m not saying that it was bad but I didn’t like the way it felt and I’m like uh I want that it had some rice holes well rice holes are fine this one has rice holes I don’t know I should have show to see on camera I maybe I did I don’t remember anyway I ain’t like it but this one I like let me show you what it looks like look at that it looks good it looks very good so if you’re looking for an economical option or something quick to top something off or you just need a quick bag it comes in one cubic feet so it’s easier for me to handle um but it’s organic and I’ve never seen a potting soil on the in the store that has alfalfa meal and K meal so y’all know I use that in my garden so I was like oh so let me get it so anyway I’m about to go turn the water on water my green stock my other two I actually watered this morning and I actually fertilized you want to make sure with your green sauce in any type of container garden that you’re fertilizing at least every couple of weeks I use the kelp liquid fertilizer this morning I told you I use kelp or usually I would use like a fish emosion or I’ll use rev.com something that’s a liquid that is immediate release that will help fertilize um the plants usually I try to do that every two weeks um and try to say on top of that so let me go water this thank you guys for helping me set up my third green sock my very first original kind I had the two Leaf I don’t know which ones I like better I like both um I like the fact that these pockets are deeper it seemed like it went quicker to me maybe because it’s 30 Pockets versus 42 um and you know once you make the investment on the initial soil I won’t buy all new soil to fill them up again for the fall or for the summer I will just top it off with some um compost and new soil you know a little bit of new soil but mostly compost and all that good stuff so once you have the initial investment
