Hey ya’ll, I’m Jess from Roots & Refuge Farm

Welcome to a place that feels like home. A small farm with a big family. We hope you’ll pull up a chair, grab some coffee and visit awhile.

There was a time that all I wanted in the world was a little farm where I could raise my family and grow our food. Now, that is exactly what exists outside my door. In watching it unfold, a new dream was formed in my heart – to share this beautiful life with others and teach them the lessons we’ve learned along the way. Welcome to our journey, friend. I am so glad you’re here.

  1. Female guineas make a “her-her” sound and the males make a loud single yell with a vibrato 😂

  2. Awwe.. A best way to continue my day as I'm finishing my time in God's Word and asking Holy Spirit, What will You have of me today?
Love you Jess.. Enjoy your day and beautiful farm with your family. ❤

  3. Well I’ll say Guinea math is more difficult than chicken math 😂.. start with 6, down to “one” and now you have 13 ❤

  4. Jess.. I'm So so very excited so see you again soon, in my/our Inland PNW area in WA & ID and getting a special visit with you. You will be welcomed with Huge hugs and some happy tears I'm positive! 😉😭😅🥹😊💖

  5. Wow! Delmer is so big and beautiful! 🤩 Loved the mini garden tour too. In South Africa our Hibiscus used to get enormous, taller than an adult (I was a kid back then). Such beautiful flowers.

  6. I ADORE Guinness!!! A friend of mine inherited some when they bought their small farm. I have noticed that they are fairly good "watchdogs", an let my friends know when strangers come around without being as loud as peacocks! When I have my land, I definitely want both–I think!!! Beauty and cuteness!

  7. Eggplant Pakistani Curry… Spectacular! Sautee those small eggplants in half w Olive oil and remove and then Basically an onions and jalapeños stir fried in same pan with fresh and can of tomatoes crushed. Before adding the tomatoes add A tiny speckle of cumin (I mean tiny) then coriander, garlic and ginger fresh, and a sprinkle of Masala spice mix over it all in the oil. Then add onion and peppers… let the oil be the sauce and cook it down then add back the eggplant w salt and peppers. Then… to serve dart thinned sour cream or preferably yogurt. The oil from the eggplant melts into all of it as it cooks down. You will love it.

  8. Did you start your hibiscus from seed? I've been trying this but haven't had much luck. The seedlings grow more vertical than anything and then end up losing leaves.
