[Music] we got all of the tomatoes planted out what a beautiful Snap Dragon oh something else that happened is I pulled my garlic [Music] hello welcome to Yellow door Urban Homestead I am maor and I’m a Urban Gardener growing in a small space out in my backyard and today we are out here we are out here with our little pouch with seeds in it I have done a lot of direct seeding this year and I am so excited like I am seeing beans come up I am seeing my squash come up my sunflowers is all coming up and I me the lady who cannot Direct seed to save her life or she used to couldn’t direct seed to save her life I’m growing things from seed this year um again if you’re not new here you know I use a sprinkler in fall and so I used it to continue to water my garden for spring because I was direct seing and it worked out really really well so I’m pretty excited about that um I’m going to show y’all the Garden today it’s somewhat going to be a garden tour but I’m also going to plant some things I’m also going to start some more seeds so that I can make sure I succession so this year also let me show you something the Swiss chart is going to seed it’s so tall and beautiful but I cannot use it anymore that Swiss chard has been in since the winter and the fall it went through fall of 2023 and the winter of 2023 um and so I had moved it from where it was but now it’s going to be time to pull that out I’m not going to pull it today here’s the thing the way I look at it I don’t have anything to put in there right now which is why I’m also going to start some seeds today I want Swiss chart in my garden and some people don’t like Swiss chart I do like the taste of swis chart I love it in a good ramen um and when I say Ramen I mean oodles and noodles that I spice up a little bit so we need to pull that stuff but I want to show you like the Garden in general it’s looking really good out here I want to show you those Basils that were like overly leggy how they’re bushing out a little bit and then we are going to go ahead and cut them we probably won’t do it today because I have probably three spaces I need to plant out steel I don’t even know what’s going to go in there I also have some bags left that need to be planted out by the way y’all have a bird’s nest in the peach tree I’m so excited um I kept seeing her go in and out of there and I was like what is happening I noticed that there was a whole nest in there I mean there are eggs in it I’m so excited about that I’m going to have Nature’s Own birds like nothing I brought on to the homestead um hatching and living on the homestead this year I really love that before we get into all of that I want to tell you about the boots you saw at the beginning of the video they are from high SE if you know I’ve worked with high SE quite a bit so far um in my little journey over here over on YouTube but they sent over these cute little rain boots they’re matte rain boots like I love them I think they’re so cute and if I’m honest I’m probably not going to wear them in the garden that much because I think they are so cute like kind of stylish they are 100% stay dry stay War boots I have quite a few of them um there will be a link down in the description if you are interested in them because I think they are so cute and they have a lot of stylish looking boots um but they actually work I can walk through a whole petal in water and I will never f it unless of course it goes over my ankle cuz these are ankle boots but I think they are so cute um I cannot wait to be wearing these out and about um because I think they’re just too cute to be only in the garden with but go ahead check out the link below if you are interested in them um and we about to get into some gardening okay so we got all of the tomatoes planted out all of the tomatoes are in bags now they are looking so good this is a potato Leaf tomato I love the way that they look um this is like the regular tomato leaf I like them all but for some reason I really do enjoy a potato Leaf as you can see everything has been planted out um there are more Tomatoes over there hey lady get out of my garden come on get out go go go bye bye bye had some people here yesterday um out in the garden and she came in and I was like she’s not even supposed to be in here but the person one of the people who were here was playing with her and I don’t know what she got going on now she normally stays right here at the front of the garden all of a sudden today she’s not doing that but we going to get her back on track all right let me show you where the rest of the tomatoes are all in bags but what I did do this year um is I’m going to try to grow my Peppers again in the beds so we’re going to see how that works and I do have bags left for Peppers um but I had way more Peppers than I had bags and I was I took it as a as a as a sign to try again so there’s more Tomatoes here there’s Tomatoes back there and if you see this bed my chicken she does not want this bed to be great every time she gets out the little white one that you see over here every time that one right there every time she gets out this is where she goes to this bed I think she like digs it up and then sits in it it’s like a nice little spot for her but I have planted this bed probably three times now and she has dug it up um we had chamomile in here at a point um then we have the borage that’s still in here cuz borage is very hearty like you can move it around and this it’ll be fine um we’ve had chamomile in here we’ve we had deal in here thank God this sunflower is doing well too but she digs it up every time any who we got to re replant something in that bed and then I think I’m going to move the quail Coupe out of the chicken area because that’s how she’s getting out she gets up on the quail CP and she jumps out she’s literally the only one who does it though and then we have some more Tomatoes over here now this tomato broke when I was planting it but the good thing about tomatoes is you can stick it down in the ground and it’ll root as long as you keep it moist so while it did break I still got to keep that tomato and we have more Tomatoes right here going down the back of the row and that’s all of our Tomatoes this year so on this back row are all the paste tomatoes over in the first side that I showed you that’s all of the slicer tomatoes and then the tomatoes over in the bed that my chicken keeps getting into those are all of the cherry tomatoes so I wanted to keep them together oh look at this y’all what a beautiful Snapdragon I’ve never grown that before but it is so pretty I love that I hope it gets like wider and more bushier cuz that’s going to be beautiful and that’s right beside the uh the kale and the uh cilantro so pretty right any who back to what I was saying so that’s how I planted out my Tomatoes this year those are the only Tomatoes we have this year um and I’m happy with that I wanted more paste than I wanted slicers but I do want a good amount of slices too cuz I love a good bacon and tomato sandwich in the summer the next thing is we have planted out a quite a bit of peppers over here um so these are a lot of the peppers there’s two more somewhere else and I really just want peppers for fresh eating and um to make a lot of powder I want a lot of powder this year so we don’t have a lot of spicy peppers down here the spicy pepper that we have are cayenne mostly cuz I want to start using that medically and then the other spicy is just a early jalapeno the rest of these are sweet peppers because I want to make some powder with that we got to get out this sweater so earlier it was kind of chilly outside and so I was like well I put a sweater on over my shirt and then I could still be a little warm uh uh uh uh-uh I’m overly I’m overly warm now y’all okay so now that that’s taking care of it’s very sunny out here cuz like I said it was cool earlier this morning and I was running around with my daughter because oh you know what my daughter she was going with my mother that’s what I was about to say but you know what those are not the only Tomatoes remember I told you we weren’t going to have LOF for this year I put some Tomatoes some cherry tomatoes on this trellis and so I’m hoping that when you walk in the garden this summer you’ll be walking through a whole bunch of cherry tomatoes that you can just pick and have a snack on your way through and so we still have two trellises two sides of a trellis that we need to plant out the rest of the trellises are already planted out so we’re going to get those planted out today I believe with trombon Cino squash and um I can’t remember what’s on the other side my book is up there but let’s do a little more looking so we can see the fruits of our labor over the last few weeks where we were planting well it was like the last week actually not a few weeks where we were planting out slowly what is that oh it’s my hair well we were planting out slowly but I want you to see where we are with that right now so if you remember we planted this bed out with zenas uh my chicken kept getting out so all of those Maragos except for that one is gone because she was eating them I had put Marr around the back she ate all of those which is fine um I can’t remember what this is maybe scabiosa can’t remember um but she has gone through this bed just ate all kinds of stuff like that is one of my marry gos she just ate the tops off of them she is terrible um but so you can see the zenas have gotten established they’re starting to get um some more leaves y’all see that strawberry turning red um and then the beans are coming up if you remember we put zenas in this bed and then there’s beans just kind of all over they’re starting to come up pretty excited about that and the strawberries are already trying to take over this bed they’re already trying to take over this bed I’m going to get that out of there but it looks really good I’m excited I think that this area is going to be very pretty um this year is going to be a bunch of zenas and some beans on the bottom I really want to use my space like if it’s a high growing plant and I know someone told me that I can snip my zenas and they’ll start to grow um from the sides instead of going straight up but honestly my plan for this bed is to have a high plant and have some small plants um you know to cover the soil that’s going to be number one so maybe I won’t have to water so much and also just to make sure I’m using my space really well and that’s the whole plan for this bed so we will see how that goes there are beans in the middle and there are beans all the way around the bed and then we were supposed to of course have maros in the front and I might go and buy some Maragos just because that’s what we got we got to get that I I keep thinking something’s on me so we’re going to need to go and either pick up some Maragos or I could put some marago seeds in the ground because Maragos don’t take that long to germinate so that might be what I do and we’ll see we’ll see how that works and so then the bed in the middle you can see this is the basil that we planted together it’s getting bit more bushier and like I said I am going to go through and take the tops off because right here you’re going to get some side shoots and it’ll make the plant bushier but right now we’re just letting it go until I think that they are good enough um if you see behind them there are beans coming up in the front you have some miniature or dwarf uh sunflowers coming up as well all the way down the bed and then back here we have some cantaloupe it’s looking good for the beginning like it’s looking really good for the beginning of the year I’m very proud of myself I very much feel like I am using my space the way that I wanted to this year so we will see um like I said we got to take this charred out um we still have some lettuce growing some leaks growing in there but if you remember we planted beans right here down this middle section and they are starting to come up um we got some squash in here and some maros in here as well and y’all were telling me that the candy roaster squash uh does Vine so lucky unlucky when my chicken got out she had dug up those seeds anyway so I replaced them with the yellow squash and so we won’t have any candy roaster in the garden beds um I’m going to figure out where I maybe can plant them cuz I really do want to try them um and then somebody was saying don’t put it on the trellis cuz well they didn’t say don’t put it on the trellis they said they don’t put it on the trellis cuz it they can get really big and they’re not sure that the trellis can hold it so I don’t want to put it on the trellis so we’re not going to do that but what we are going to do is find somewhere I think to plant that um and then the basil is looking good right behind where the squash and the maros will grow this is the basil we put in together um it’s looking good like I said getting bushy we’re going to go ahead and pull it when we can uh the leaks are looking good behind this and then of course we still have the Collard trees and then there is a Snapdragon back there too so I think that I have used my space really well this year I think that I’m I’m feeling good about it I’m feeling good about it y’all so if I’m lucky everything is going to be like bushy and full this year and if you remember we planted this big out together before we did the other one and so of course we already have beans that have come up um we have our Mar gold and squash back here and then our Cinda is taking a while to get it Barren like it is really struggling to start growing over here and they were put in at the same time as the ones over there so we’ll see what happens and the sunflowers have also started to come up those are dwarf sunflowers too so I want to have some flowers oh by the way ranunculus we love that for us ranunculus and I went ahead and put the marago in here in front of the ranunculus cuz that’s what’s supposed to go here so that when this ranunculus dies out cuz it is more of a spring uh flower that marago will already be able to start growing so I love that and then of course like I showed you the uh kale and cilantro is still back there oh by the way where I said my tomatillos didn’t come up I just replaced it with some Fel so we’ll see how that works out um I’ve never grown finnel I’m pretty sure I’ve never eaten finnel but I do want to and someone said that like it does have a licorice taste to it not a fan of licorice but that they thought it would be good um in the oven with some butter or something so of course I’m going to try it if I grow it and then in the front of that the leaks and the lettuce is also looking looking really good um and the pansies are still growing it hasn’t gotten super hot yet here but they’re probably going to die out soon so I’m just excited to have gotten started already like I’m a little bit tired today um it was a good work week though like probably my easiest work weekend I don’t know how long and I’m still a little bit tired we have some cenda that’s already starting to flower that’s very pretty I love Candela and someone asked me how I’m going to use them my plan right now is to use it for some tea to use it for svvs um I am going to start reading a lot because I have planted quite a few herbs that um either I have planted before but haven’t really used them to the best um you know as best I could and then I also have something that I have planted and I’ve never grown ever before in my life or probably never used it either so pretty excited um we got quite a bit of Cinda back here it’s all growing nicely I need to fertilize because like I said we have a lot of things in this bed this year these beds this year um andan I need to fertilize to make sure that everything has the nutrients that it needs I’m going to use the comfrey tea that I made last year oh and people keep asking me where I got my comfrey seeds from I did not start from seed I was able to get the root in a seed swap uh a bunch of us went in I think we paid $10 each and we ordered some so I I don’t and I also don’t know where they got them from so I did not start from seed I started from the root but you can get one root and you can just keep separating it because comfrey spreads and you can um you can propagate it essentially oh something else that happened is I pulled my garlic my garlic looked terrible it was splitting so I just pulled it out so that that’s a actually that’s a third space I think that we need to get planted not sure what we’re going to plant but we need to get it plant it and I’m going to show you the garlic also pretty sure it was a hard neck variety and hard neck does not grow well in our area reason why I think and pretty sure that it’s a hard neck variety is because there were Scapes on it um and soft neck varieties do not grow Scapes as I understand it if I’m wrong you you can definitely correct me but I’m going to show you the garlic um I’m going to use this as my drying tint this year that that’s what I’m calling it oh my God I wish I could give you a smell meter of this of this thing it smells so fresh of garlic well let me show you what I mean when I say it was splitting do you see where the paper is coming off of this and the bulb is exposed that’s not supposed to happen and last year I waited too late and most of them did that that’s one too yeah so um I just went ahead and pulled it early this year not bad size bulbs though they’ll make a good powder they will make a good powder so the garlic is out and it’s in here drying I did close down the sides I open up the front of it you know throughout the day and then close it at night cuz I don’t want moisture in there um because I’m letting them dry so it smells so good in there it smell like a big old thing of garlic so yeah we pulled the garlic um and so today we’re going to figure out these last three spaces I think we still have flowers to plant um and then after that we are literally done oh let me show you what we did over in the greenhouse I did get the greenhouse planted out not completely but the bigger bed is completely planted out the smaller bed still trying to figure that out so the bigger bed we have peppers growing in there all across the middle is peppers I put my moranga trees in here too because they do die out after uh once it frost but I’m thinking maybe I can keep them a little bit longer if I have them in here um as opposed to having them out in the garden cuz maybe if we get a small Frost it won’t freeze in here so that’s what I did so there’s peppers in here um there is NOS in here and we’re getting all kind of beautiful nerum blooms um in here so all the way around it is nerum and I found a worm in here this morning it was eating the theum but if I’m lucky it won’t mess with the uh Peppers so what we did in here is a new herb Bay and of course I don’t know how big most of these herbs grow this is a stinging that pretty sure it grows pretty big this is the St John’s wart plantain all the way down which gets big but I’m fine with this being like a big bushy thing this is Lage this is also Lage right here um this is wormwood wormwood here and then true uh hsip right here and then this is just a mug wart that was growing out in the garden and I just pulled it out and moved it because it was right beside those tomatoes that I put on the trellis and mug wart gets huge apparently I have one out there I’ll show y’all it gets really big and so I know it would have shaded those tomatoes and since I already have mug wart out there I figured you know we can move some of it in here so there’s still a little bit of space in this bed to plant out and I have quite a bit of Basil left so we probably going to put some basil in there too um we still have a few Tomatoes left I dropped some off to a friend this morning um and then we have some nerum over here left this is also basil like this whole thing is basil I believe except for that one tomato plant um we still have a Shasta daisy we need to figure out where she’s going to go and then the marshmallow germinated so well so we got to find somewhere to put that too because I already have marshmallow in my garden and it grows really big so the mug wart you see it growing this is a mug wart it’s huge it’s growing essentially up the apple tree which is kind of what I want I want it to shade but it gets here huge so so I moved it I hope you enjoyed this video if you did don’t forget to like share subscribe don’t forget to visit me over on Instagram where I post about the things going on in my garden just about every day bye y’all [Music]

I got my comfrey from Project Tree Collard. The lady who sent you your tree collard seeds . I got it off the website. They have a you tube channel as well. I got tree collards from them as well as comfrey and stinging nettle. Everything is looking good. You’re inspiring me to keep working on my garden.
your panseys look gorgeous purple yellows , everything looks so pretty
Your garden looks awesome and yes those boots are fabulous ❤
Happy Mothers Day Ms Asia
Ms. Asia, I promoted your channel at garden club the other day because I find you so inspiring. Happy Mother’s Day🌺
Happy Mother’s Day❤
I love watch how you use all the space you have available. I LOVE your hoop (cattle panel?) trellises! I can imagine tons of cherry tomatoes hanging down! Did you positions them E to W or S to N or maybe nothing? I really want a trellis and getting all confused how to position. 🙂
I got my comfrey seeds from Amazon. 16:34
You make me laugh. I am looking at those boots thinking the same thing–they are too cute just for the garden. Your gardening reminds me how important it is to enjoy the process. I am amazed how many things change–like the garlic or the chicken loving the bed and pulling up your plants. I love that gardening is about learning. While your approach is different, it really reminds me that the only reason is because you absolutely love what you do. You are cracking me up with all that yellow, to come back to the boots and the nails, etc. I do not know your favorite color but I am guessing it is yellow. Take care! The light (I asked your advice about what lumens you use) is giving me better results with my seedlings. I need to work on soil composition but I feel like I just need to be grateful and enjoy my peppers–as my indoor garden mostly grows peppers well. Thanks for sharing your joy.
Beautiful garden tour❤
Hi and Happy Mother's Day. I am in zone 6 and I start seeds indoors in February. I have transferred them out doors and have picked lettuce and Bok Choy already to eat. Today I picked and eat my first radish! 🎉
Hey Asia, when you use the sprinkler, do it raise your water bill?
Hi Aisha your garden is looking great also with the flowers when they’re in full bloom it’s going to be gorgeous ❤
Fresh fennel is really good. It’s not as potent (like black licorice). But think sausages. That’s the primary flavor in Italian sausages and a lot of breakfast sausage has fennel. I’m curious to see how they grow with other things. I’ve always seen that they are finicky and are better grown separately from other plants. Garden looks great as always.
Love your voice, you sound like you have a lyrical;
Love how the garden is going so far the flowers so pretty
Awesome herbs, gotta research some especially mugwart
Beautiful garden
Looking beautiful!
I forgot to mention in the last comment I left for you, your channel has inspired me to try something new. I'm getting some chickens this year! My dad is going to help me build the coop and run, I'm so HYPED. 🙏
I enjoyed the update 👍🏾
You are my new best friend!! Thanks for sharing your garden with all of us. I really love the way you pack your gardens full to maximize space and waterings. I always get inspiration from each video! You really make gardening feel doable to all of us, whether we are working with a small neighborhood back yard or more space out in the country.
Baby armadillos always eat my marigolds.
Your garden is so beautiful. I love it. New sub.
Sweeeeeeeet! XO🍒
I can feel your excitement, I love gardening too. I really enjoyed your videos. The swiss chard is the most nutritionous vegetable in the garden. God Bless
od Bless.
You should be proud indeed! I planted Swiss Chard. I hope it does as well as yours looks…
Cheers! 🥃
❤❤❤
Beautiful garden everything is looking nice and healthy thanks for bringing us along!!
Thanks for video. Glad you planting things out successfully. May try you pop up green house need more space for now. Take care.
Appreciate your videos! Just wondering…do you reuse the soil in your grow bags or do you replace it every year?
So much goin on in that garden! 😊
How is comfrey used? Also, fennel can be eaten fresh in a salad with Granny Smith apples. Yum.
❤ I’m sorry if the answer is already on here, but how do you water your tomatoes in the bags? How often, how much? I’ve had trouble with bags…and I need more garden space. And I’ve a lot of tomato seedlings! Thank you. I do love your videos 😊
l'm new to your channel. l must say, you are so inspiring. l've never planted anything in my life but you make it seem so easy. With the high cost of groceries nowadays, and the need/search for healthy produce, you are a beacon of hope to many. Your garden is beautiful; so much food! May God continue to bless you, Asia.
Candy Roaster squash will do just fine on your cattle panel trellis. This is how I grow mine every year. Along with my Cherokee Tan pumpkins and a other squash. 🙂 Let your chard go to seed and collect them for this fall. That way the seeds are acclimated to your area. I love what you're doing with your space. We started in a urban backyard as well! I can't wait to see how the rest of your season grows. 🙂~ Stephanie
I recently discovered your channel. I live in ph Nigeria and this is calling ro me to start my own kitchen garden. My mom was big on flowers but i want my own homestead.
You will love candy roasters. They have a surprisingly long shelf life is cured right and have a taste and texture reminiscent of sweet potatoes. They can grow 15 feet or more long. I had one that was over 30 feet last year. That said, I let them run across the ground and periodically buried part of the vine to keep it growing and producing more. Makes them more drought tolerant as well. In my area, that is important. Check out Tahitian Melon Squash as well. It's like a pumpkin/butternut cross and gets big. Loves the heat. — BTW, I just learned of your channel from Exploring Alternatives. I Loved that video. Totally worth the watch.
Hello, I love your channel. You have a beautiful garden. I’m wondering something. Do you use mosquito repellent? I notice how you roam freely in your garden without scratching and you wear short sleeves. I’m a mosquito magnet and cannot go out without bathing in Off (which I hate).
