Thank you 💗
I'm a little disappointed in myself for how much I liked hearing "the Americans are right"
@goodfoodcomesdirty you was right about erbs haha <3
My newest obsession is bay rum, it’s bay but better 😁. The scent and flavor is magical and reminds me of a tropical Christmas. In addition to cooking with it and adding it to my big vat of herb salt, I plan on making wreaths out of it. Highly recommend!
Thank you for your videos! And love your book very well written and can’t wait to follow the tips!❤
And has an American is very rare to hesr that Americans are right becuse has American we envy other countries like the UK ❤❤
He tells us we are right, then continues to pronounce it the British way! TeeHee!
I love this! Both the subject and your herbal space. So gorgeous. I've been working on 3 modest herb gardens (culinary, tea & medicinal) within my main veg garden. My whole garden is very small by your standards but I had to carve out the space (lots of pots in play). I can't wait until they come into their own! Incidentally, caraway seeds were a challenge to find but I got them last year 😁
Blackcurrant sage sounds interesting 🌱👍
Thank you for this video and your explanations regarding herbs. I finally got your latest book and I am so happy I preordered it. It is a very good book and delivers all the information I was hoping for. Thank you 🙏🏻
h🤫Erbs.
-An American Guy
Oh, sometimes I hate living in a cold country. It's mid June and I still have seedlings.
I found Urban Herbs Huw a couple of months ago and was amazed by the different varieties of herbs they sell in small pots I couldn’t find anywhere else. The plants came packaged in cardboard “inners” and not one plant was damaged, all were strong and healthy in both my orders. Added to that they included a free plant and 10% off my next order! A small company who have got it right all the way with loads of information about each herb as well on their website. I have no vested interest in this company, I just believe in giving credit where credit is due. 👌👍
My blackcurrant sage died this winter 😢
Unexpectedly herbs have been one of my favorite things in my garden. Holy Basil tea/lemonade is so refreshing and medicinal.
Thanks from Texas USA but my issue isn't erb or herb. Tell me how you say aluminum (a lu min um) and pronounce it (a lu mini um) 😂 and really no one is incorrect in pronunciation due to their location. But if there's anything more annoying is aluminum. 🙄
It’s so cold outside that I’ll make a list of herbs to grow instead! Thank you.
Great video, Huw!
I’m American and I pronounce “Herb”, Erb😂
Can we get a shout out to savory and chervil
Hi can you show us how to take cutting from sage. I can’t seem to get mine to take. Tx
When Americans say "herbs", it sounds like they're trying to speak French and failing. I could understand a nice, soft "errb" pronunciation but "UUUURRRBS" is never something I'm getting on board with 😂😂😂
As an American, I understood the concept as it's a medicinal, "erb" without the, "h,"" but is' a cooking "herb." "Herbal medicine," is pronounced, "erbal medicine, " but it's "kitchen herbs." Additionally, if the consonant before it is "voiced," (your throat vibrates when you say it), we drop the soft "h" sound ("Fright house") but we say the, "h" sound if the sound before is a vowel, soft, or unvoiced (mouse house)
Chive vinegar, tarragon vinegar etc are easy to make
I grew chervil for the first time this year. Beautiful fennel/anise-like flavor. Delicate. It bolted fairly quickly, but produces tiny daisy-like flowers that the hover flies love! So pretty. Thanks Huw! p.s. LOVE your book! What a valuable resource.
The Americans arent right, they're not wrong either. No dialect or accent is more correct than an other IF you understand what they mean. Because think about it, every single word is made from an arbitrary string of squiggles that then get meaning applied to them, its just a vessel for meaning and that vessel sometimes looks spanish or english or german or american or northern or southern or eatern or western or urban or rural etc etc. If you can be understood with your language, dialect or spelling etc etc, youre ways of speech are a-okay. Herb or 'erb is no more right or wrong than the countless other spellings, pronunciations and words for herbs in both the English language and the countless other languages
haha I thought that was my chicken I heard
I love growing a wide variety of herbs, and allowing them to flower, yerba buena mint is my favorite, the bees love my flowering herbs tremendously, Esp my oregano
If you’re going to appease the Yanks by saying “‘erbs”, should you not also be saying “orEgano”, “bay-zil” and “cilantro”? 😉
I think the reason we pronounce herb without the h is because the word was originally a French word, and they don't pronounce the h.
Good to have confirmation from the chicken!
I Love how you said the Americans got it right, and then go on to call it Herbs 😅 It is definitely going to still be Herbs for too 😂
Next step is getting you guys to pronounce Jalapeño correctly 😉
I think it was the French influence, but spelt with an "h" and we made it sound English! LOL! Super herbs you have there!
