definitely want at wind of these since we arrived here 40 mph winds all night and all day I’m trying out a little DIY fakes on my phone at moment trying to cut back on that wind noise which is so irritating and I have uploaded a video to his Caravan Channel which shows you what I’ve used to try and cook back on wind noise while we’re recording but the main concern today is these plants they’re going to get hit by wind for quite a lot of hours which could cause a lot of damage so I’ve done a few things to try and help them out and then I’m going to do something else especially to that cucumber plant let’s take a look at what we’ve done so far as you can see we’ve got these tumbling Tom plants on quite an eye level as well so we’ve put these canes in place just to help support these plants they’re nice thick stocky plants but it doesn’t mean that the wind won’t snap that stem if it starts really gusting so that is definitely going to help we’ve also done the same to this one they are taking a bit of beating at moment though these plants are a lot smaller so they should be okay or at least I’m hoping so and I’ve removed lots of things from this balcony area except for that potato plant cuz we’ve tied that to balcony to keep it stable hopefully it’s going to be all right of course we have got things that we can’t move like those peas but they’ve got their own support and so far they look okay and so does everything else in these Planters because these aren’t tall plants so we should be fine with those these leaves are getting massive on these strawberries and we’ve got lots a little strawberries there as well I can’t really do much about this tomato plant cuz it’s in this oblisk but we have tied it once again to a cane to just try and stabilize it I was a bit worried about this cucumber though more than anything I’m worried about windburn cuz that’s going to start killing leaves off so I might do something about that shortly and apart from doing that we’ve once again put all these plants together so that these containers don’t get blowing over but it’s always the potato plants that take the beating and there’s not much I can do about those ex said hope they pull through once again but I am utilizing this back storage area as well we just take a look in there I’ve put tomato plants and peppers because it’s also a cold wind as well so we need to give them a little bit protection and we’ve got one or two up there as well just until this wind passes and then we’ve got this metal storage area at the bike that’s got the washer in it but I’ve got the odd plant in there and once again trying to protect those peppers in this particular area it seems to be windy more often than not so we’ve got to keep his eye on that because as I was saying windburn can cause lots of problems to your plants the leaves will start and go white on the edges and eventually it’s going to kill that Leaf so if you’ve got any tender plants maybe offer them a little bit of retr protection if you get days like this being s in 40 mph winds but best part of a day is not going to do those plants any good so we need to make a little bit of extra effort that cucumber plant has got an oblisk over the top of it so I’m going to wrap some cling film around it and that’s going to help it quite a lot it’s going to stop that wind constantly hting it and also reduce the amount of cold so we’ll just wrap some around and tie it on we can’t do much more than that unfortunately just tie it off onto this Frame then just wrap it around just going to wrap it around the bottom of level work the way up till we’re above that plant and that should do it and that’s going to keep the wind off the leaves of that cucumber plant cuz cucumbers are more susceptible to cold than most most others one thing that was really nice to see this morning was this planter that we did look how many flowers have come out on it now that looks amazing so for today I’ve done what I can to protect these plants if you haven’t got cling fil which I think most people have you could also use bubble wrap that’s a little bit thicker as well all tie thin cardboard around your containers just to help reduce that wind damage I’ll probably do that tomato plant as well we’ll just out forit best on other plants especially those potatoes and hopefully tomorrow it’ll be a little bit calmer and thank you so much to everybody that wish Jenny an happy birthday a couple of days ago and she will be making an appearance when this weather clears up to personally thank you herself but that’s definitely me today so I’m going to wrap up a couple more plants and then I’m going back IND doors for day because would be really windy and horrible it’s constantly threatening rain and is quite cold and if you’re interested in seeing how these plants get on after this really horrible 40 mph Windstorm then please hit that subscribe button press that notifications Bell and I’ll see you it’s a bit nicer take care

  1. such a massive difference since the last time you got hit by bad winds. I really hope the best for you but it seems like your adapting really well, keep it up I'm sure everything will be fine.

Thankfully it's been quite nice here today with not much wind. I just pulled up my garlic and maybe it's cause of all the rain we have had but they are chonky.

  2. My cucumber plants also have wind burn, good idea Ivan to protect them with cardboard. All the very best Tim. 👌

  3. Ivan I had the same problem on my allotment today , it’s a pain at the moment for us gardeners , frantically tying my tomatoes to stakes and my polly tunnel which is plastic greenhouse was flapping badly, my husband came up and dug mud over the edges to hold it in place..

I hope you don’t get too much damage . The old allotmenters here said they have never known it so bad for growing.

  4. Same here Ivan, windy & cool, it's bloody depressing lol. Belated Birthday wishes to Ginny, hope she had a lovely day…

  5. My garden is taking a beating too! I have been fleecing my runners and French beans at night. Wild and wet. Too many slugs and snails!

  6. Good timing, I've noticed white on my cucumber plants and wondered what was causing it. We haven't had quite as strong winds as you, but up here in Scotland it can get cold. I've just put them back in the greenhouse.

  7. Weather engendering, its been cloudy windy raining, met office has already confirmed this is whats going on because of the so called climate change

  8. Thanks Ivan, it looks pretty wild down there but it looks like you've got it sorted, for a change it's been a lovely day up here. Have a great weekend mate. Take care and all the best. Stevie

  9. I had a couple of branches blown down from my trees by the wind. They were small but that's how strong the wind has been here. My tomato plant that broke in the wind seems to be doing okay. It is branching out to fix the damage. Using cardboard to block the wind is a smart idea.

  10. Your lovely container garden must inspire your fellow residents . Hopefully the site owner in time will allocate a shared garden space for you to all grow even more lovely things . Hopefully you won’t get naughty bunnies munching by night .

  11. It really is a challenge this year for sure! My 6 potato grow bags have taken a reet battering today, & my flowering delphiniums have been smashed/broken down! I dread to think what state we are in down on the Lotty? Surely it's got to improve soon🤞🙏

  12. You have a very nice setup there, all the plants look good, I'm having to deal with slugs and snails, a nightmare.

  13. The cling film around the cucumber is a good idea Ivan, but then you are always full of good ideas. I hope your wonderful garden will be okay.

  14. I love what you've done with the caravan container garden, the wind obliterated one of my Fartichokes, had to cut it back. I lost a cucumber plant too it snapped it right in half. Thank god for spares. Windburn coastal is normal but not that much..

  15. I'm at the philosophical stage. If I don't get a single bean or tomato, at least I'll have had some exercise and some vitamin D and fresh air from being outside. As an army mate used to say: "You can't break me, I'm a rubber duck. Quack. Bounce!" Here's to a bit of fine weather soon. Cheers.

  16. Hi, can I grow courgette and squashes in pots? Also started sweetcorn which is a fair height, but should I give it away for someone to put in the ground or can I continue in big pots? Many thanks

  17. You've got my sympathies over the problems with windburn and plant damage Ivan. We live within a few miles of the irish Sea coast, and it's a constant pain: broken plants, uprooted shrubs and trees even! That was a great idea about using cling film – dead practical. 😎😁

  18. Pleased to see you adopted my suggestion of wrapping cling film around the obelisk to add protction to your cucumber. Hope it worked ok? HAppy gardening 🙂
