today we’re going to work on the hanging baskets that are on the gate and we’re going to take a look at a few things come and join [Music] me hey guys and welcome back to horiculture geek I’m Ray thank you so much for joining me today here in the garden it’s been a while since I’ve posted a video and that’s because it has been raining I feel like nonstop for the past 3 weeks here in central Arkansas um I’ve had soccer season with my son and then I had some other personal things going on in my life and so all that just kind of led up to delaying getting videos out I know some of my fans have reached out and asked if everything was okay yes everything is fine and as you can see behind me the garden is looking fantastic we’ve got color and texture and things going on all over the place um and I do plan on doing a full Garden Tour as soon as I can but today I was going to work on the wall pots the wall baskets if you’ve been with me for a while um these are self-watering wall baskets I picked them up from gardeners supply.com I have three of them and they hang on the gate um into the backyard so we I bought some things yesterday to switch all that out get the winter pansies out and get some beautiful summer things in them um and then I have also redone the two great big planter ears on either side of the gate and so we’re going to show you those I did not video the replanting process on those um you saw me empty them out in the video where I pulled the magnolia trees out and got the magnolia trees planted if you haven’t seen that video please go back and look at it um and so I filled those ears up so we’ll look at that so with all that being said um and as you can tell probably let me just go ahead and notice I have just uncovered my yesterday so it is not in the best of shape yet it is not beautifully Crystal Clear yet but that’s okay um it is well on its way so just kind of ignore that blob right now in the background if you don’t mind so that’s enough rambling let’s go look at these wall baskets um how they look right now and then we’re going to look at what I got to go in them and we’re going to get them switched out here okay so here we are with these wall baskets there are three of them and you me move around so you can kind of see um and they hang right on the gate that goes into the backyard um and there’s a lot of road noise sorry I do live on a busy street caveat so um let me grab one of these and we’ll show them up close so it just hangs on the fence with standard Hooks and then these are are self-watering I’ve shown these before so the planting actually occurs in these cups that fit right down in there and this still has some water in it and then this plastic pot right here holds water and the drain hole is raised up to about right there so that the base of the planting cup sits right down into the water sord and the plants can draw the water up as they need so therefore being a self-watering container all you have to do is keep the reservoir topped off with water now in the hot hot hot Dead Heat Of Summer I will Top these off once a day but prior to these self-watering baskets I’ve tried to do other types of baskets before and in the hot Dead Heat Of Summer sometimes those um wall baskets um would have to be watered two to three times a day to stay up or else the sun just bakes the water right out of them so a product like this even though it’s not huge really does help you if you are in a full sun hot situation to get your plants through until you can get them watered the next time um so that’s why I like these as you can tell they’re older they’re well loved I’ve had them for years so now that I’m I think I’m going to move all of these up to the work surface and we’re going to clean them out and get them plant it up here we go all right so first things first is we’re just going to empty all of these out dirt and all just get them all cleaned out [Music] okay so let me show you here I have got fresh potting soil and I’ve already mixed my biotone starter fertilizer into this fresh potting soil I’ve also picked up some vinka this two different shades of vinka two different colors but they partner with each other so this is Titan blush and this is hot Genta hot Genta Titan blush and I have also picked up some dondra Silver Falls okay so what I’m going to do is in each planting pot I’m G to put a dondra silver flaw in the front to spill over the edge I’ve done this for many years and these will fill out and go all the way down and then I’m going to put the vinka in behind as a filler and thriller so now let’s just get to planting here we go [Music] [Music] [Music] all right I’m just going to continue on real [Music] quick okay so these as you just saw are the pots that are on either side of my gate and the centerpiece I went with this year is a dwarf Alberta spruce um and you can see these look really good um they’re putting on Fresh growth I went with a uh super tunia Vista bubblegum a superina which is the purple so it’s a verbina but it’s The Proven Winners super beina and then I went with one of the plants we started from seeds here at the house um and that is a Salvia so I’ve got a perennial Salvia in here then my super tun Vista bubblegum my super beina and my dwarf Alberta spruce so those are the pots at the gate so that was today’s project um um I hope you enjoyed it um I do enjoy those wall pots so again I don’t even know if Gardener Supply still has that particular pot available if they if you can’t find it Gardener Supply does have self-watering inserts for hanging baskets um and then there’s different products out there on the market as well um but I I I don’t know if those particular wall baskets are still on the website or not but I really enjoy those things um they’re about ready to use a fresh spray paint um get them cleaned up and looking fresh again but we’ll worry with that another day so I hope you guys have enjoyed today’s video it wasn’t too long but um just some basic things there I wanted to show you um as you can tell from the garden um I’ve been working I’ve been planting literally in between rainstorms um as I’ve bought things this year um I’ve been coming out and getting things planted as I could um working on some of my containers um so I haven’t done I had I didn’t save a bunch of plants this year to do a plant haul um if I go out shopping again and find some more stuff I may do a plant haul video I know some of you guys really like those um but today’s video I literally bought those things yesterday with the intent to do this video today so here we are and like I said I will be doing a garden tour here um as soon as I can as soon as I get some free time I just don’t have enough time today to get in there and do that cuz that takes about an hour just to shoot that video but y’all be on the lookout for it it will be coming um if you have any questions or comments about today’s video feel free to leave those down below I’ll do my very best to answer them um if you are a first time Gardener I mentioned this when I was up there planting um I put biotone starter fertilizer in my soil I put that in everything I plant so that is an espoma product the same company that makes hly tone Rose tone Garden tone all the tone products they make biotone the biotone is a starter fertilizer it works on root development it puts beneficial microa into the soil and does all the good things to get your plants going so if you are watching this video thinking I need to learn how to plant something I’m going to recommend go find some biotone starter fertilizer you will need to go to a garden center typically to find it um it is not stocked at The Big Box store so you’re not going to find it at Lowe’s Home Depot Walmart Ace Hardware any of those places you’re going to find it at local garden centers and then the other thing is I hope you guys enjoyed seeing the big pots on either side like I said um that was fun putting those together I didn’t film that project but um you’ve seen them now and we’ll watch them grow as the season progresses so I hope today’s video has inspired you get out in your Gardens if you’re like me um a lot of the country I know has just been inundated with rainfall a lot of people have been getting terrible floods and severe weather um so do the best you can in your garden spaces get out there all your garden centers all your big box stores everybody is Cho full of plants and uh fresh plant shipments are coming in weekly if not daily to some of these facilities so now is a great time to get out there and find beautiful things for your garden your yard your containers um I hope you have enjoyed this video like I said if you have please give me that thumbs up it certainly helps me in the algorithm but until next time from my garden to yours I wish you all the best and happy gardening

Those small hanging containers are going to need lots of daily watering. Do you have drip irrigation? I installed that this year and it’s making a difference for my smaller containers
Love the new video Ray. Anything that helps watering is good and I’ve seen your little planters a lot on your channel. Glad y’all are good and you are back up and running.
Those wall basket are pretty cool, will look awesome when it fills in.
Thanks for your video. It gives me new ideas. 😊
I would find it helpful if you could state the planting zone you live in. Glad you’re able to get a little break for your videos.
Great video, Ray! Good to see you, again. Your garden looks lovely. Those wall planters are something I will research. Pool? What pool?!? 😁
