[Music] hey guys welcome to my veggie [Music] patch for those of you who do not know me my name is Rebecca Todd I’ve been working in my flower beds for the last 3 years I felt like it was time to go ahead and take that next step into growing my own food and so far I’m absolutely loving the journey I’m excited about taking you through that Journey but I feel like the first video has to be about how all of this got it start hope you enjoy here it is March 23rd of this year after having wanted to start a veggie garden for years basically since we moved out here I finally bit the bullet and started with a simple Facebook post tell me what to do guys I had over 40 comments and by far the largest number of suggestions you need to do can container gardening and then my friend Karen Kelly said messaged you so Karen did message me she’s my very best girlfriend she helped me to narrow my vision a bit we did decide on container gardens just made sense the best part is she even offered to help me March 29th she was coming to help me plant so I had to get to work I spent a couple hundred right away on Amazon ordered three of these containers no idea what could go in them or how much I needed but I looked at my space and said yes I’m getting three of those then I made a Walmart order and Bam I had seeds seeds starting soil and Trays delivered I literally had no idea what to plant when that same day I found someone on Marketplace selling small starter plants about $3 a plant I’ve since learned I can do better but it didn’t matter I got two cucumbers two zenas and two tomatoes so that night I could hardly sleep I was back scrolling social media learning as much as I could from the other gardeners out there which by the way guys there are so many different opinions but that’s okay because one thing about me I love love love learning so back to my original post I went and the funny thing is on there I hadn’t seen it before a nurse that I worked with previously check out what she says follow Andy K YouTube get your Willies lots of fantastic videos Andy K another nurse I worked with has a c Channel what down that rabbit hole I went and there it is get your Wellies look guys this is cute let’s check out these videos what have we got here scroll down all very wait easiest way to build a raised garden what clicking on that welcome back to the Garden tonight we’re going to have a quick look and uh build a a bed real quick did you hear that he said build real quick that’s exactly what I needed I was so in he used these blocks and some Lumber to make his beds I went on a walk around our property and I found all this wood left by contractors from previous projects and order those blocks okay obviously they’re going to be expenses in gardening but it’s not going to be this one sending these back so I got all my materials together had my hubby cut a few pieces of wood laid everything out and put it together to see if it worked it did look at those beds the best part easily taken apart so I can move them inside my fence incoming tip thank you to my good friend Karen Kelly I was about to spend a fortune on getting soil by the bag to fill those containers with could not believe how expensive that stuff can get she told me go to your local Nursery they sell it in bulk and boy do they I got two cubic yards of garden rich soil with compost for only 880 bucks guys so I broke those beds down and carried them in piece by piece block BL block all inside my 6ot privacy fence and after about 12 trips carrying the cement blocks Lumber and tools I began to realize this project is going to be my baby and mine alone it’s all good I needed the exercise I had a carpenter’s cloth and landscaping fabric to the bottom y’all that Carpenter’s cloth almost ate my lunch it fights back sticks to everything and I definitely did not have the right Cutters I did it anyway so I’m just going to hush and let you watch me struggle I prevail [Music] oh [Music] and then of course rinse and repeat for container number two just look at those Beauties all right it is March 29 6 days after making a post I’m getting help my good friend Karen Kelly is coming to help me plant my very first container gardens and here she is y’all what good is a friend if they won’t come over and help you play in the dirt now seriously Karen has been gardening since she was a wee little girl just like she’s been training dogs since she could probably say her first words she came and helped me to actually plan out how I was going to plant these Gardens I started with telling her what I had to plant showing her what I had intended on doing she quickly corrected me told me what I needed to put wear and we got right to work we started by bringing out my little plants that IID bought and the seeds the ones that were ready to go out because remember this is still march we still expect to have some cool night coming at us and maybe a whole lot of cold rain so some things we wanted to go ahead and let grow inside before we moved outside so in this first bed we went ahead and put down those lettuce seeds and we put those more mature Tomatoes right on in the [Music] ground in the second bed we went ahead and placed those four pepper plants that I picked up from Home Depot two red bell peppers and two green bell peppers and then the seeds that I put into that second bed on one side I put eggplant and on the other cucumber seeds now I did have two cucumber plants ready to go but Karen told me they need to go ahead and get another set of leaves before we actually put them in the ground I’m going to do whatever she tells me to do she knows her stuff and here it is from March 23rd to March 29th this is what she got now just little heads up there were a lot of changes I did move some stuff around I planted some more stuff added some more Garden space but all of that is coming in future videos the wi the what and the house all right guys well I hope that you enjoyed that little intro to my Gardens the next video I’m going to actually take you on a tour of not just these my veggies but my flower gardens out front then we’ll start getting into all of those things that I had to figure out on the slide thanks guys for tuning in hope you found some value see you next time [Music]

So nice and peaceful doing gardening.
The Monsters gonna be some healthy Monsters 💪 I live on 5 acres lake front that use to be my grandparents. They had about 3 acres of garden with a little bit of everything in it. As a kid I loooooved helping them every Sunday after church pick stuff out of the garden. as we all got older things changed unfortunately and they passed away. I ended up living here. I've been thinking about trying a garden myself where their garden use to be. I'm pretty good at growing a couple tomato plants and cucumbers but I haven't tried anything massive yet. You're making me wanna far up the ol tractor and get to plowing lol
Rebuilding my garden now. The older I get the more I want natural foods. Get yourself a food dehydrator so you can preserve the food because it all comes at once. I just got a Magic Mill and I'm loving it. Working on my beef jerky recipes too.
So crazy, this is my 1st season growing veg/fruit at home, mostly container gardening. I thought this was one of the new gardening channel'ls i subbed to 😂 mad coincidence!
I'm glad you found something you're passionate about ☺
Great job!
How do you prevent rabbits from eating everything?
Gardening is like a bunch of experiments in my opinion , im growing pole Christmas lima beans in hanging pots and pole green beans that are hanging on my pergola and are growing great! So there are many ways to grow vegetables just try if it doesn't work out try something different next time , im growing alot of my vegetables from seeds i got from the dollar tree 4 for $1 and they are thriving! Goodluck everyone with your summer gardens!!
Very cool, nice work! Looks like it will turn out a great crop! For raised beds, I've had good luck with Square Foot Gardening (book by Mel Bartholomew, for example, but there are others, too). Enjoy the journey!
