Thanks for growing with us!
We have amazing news! Our final average frost date has passed and the forecast is showing that we are in the clear for late season cold! This means we can start planting some of the seedlings from the basement. First up is our edibles.
Based on our experience last season we know that we need to have irrigation. That is where Garden In Minutes Garden Grid Watering System comes in! This system was a breeze to install and comes completely assembled! It really only took minutes to get set up. Naturally we made it way more complicated than necessary by connecting the beds together, but the company itself sells other accessories to make that happen. Click the link below to check them out.

hi everyone I’m Eric and I’m Christopher and we’re grow foring gardening today we’re going to plant up our elevated beds and install some Irrigation in minutes welcome back to the Garden everyone here in zone 5B 6A I have very very exciting news we are past our final average frost date and the extended forecast is showing us Lowe’s in the 50s so it is time for all of my little seed babies that I’ve been growing in the basement Greenhouse to get planted in the raised beds today some of these are flowers that are going out but they’ve been sitting here overnight and hardening off and also it’s easier to water them tucked into the soil so we also learned last year that raised bed irrigation is something we absolutely needed to add so we have a very cool system that we are going to be installing with you today and Eric do you want to unbox a little bit sure after spending so much time out here watering in the morning or in the evening or whenever I could I knew we had to get Irrigation in these elevated beds for this season and I did a lot of searching online for what I thought would be an easy system that would be easy to set up and I came across Garden in mitts and these are their gardening grids and what you do is you tell them the size B that you have and you can order grids that are custom sized to your beds this is the 2×8 grid and they come in these flat boxes pre assembled look at this this is my favorite part the 2×8 was just in the two pieces and you just stick them together they’re preassembled and each square is a foot they’re lined with little irrigation holes to provide direct watering to the base of your veggies that you’re growing and that’s just really cool and so what we’re going to do today is set them up in each bed and then kind of go through how we hook these up and then attach them to our irrigation system but they come all everything you need like literally just pop it together and if it’s a little tight you can push the pieces closer together and the way this is also going to work that’s very convenient if you want them on top of the soil you don’t have to do much with all these extra pieces but if you need it to sink in the soil you can set it up with a kind of a riser with this piece of tubing and this little elbow and then this little tubing and elbow and that’ll take it down to the ground but just look how neat and tidy that is and so every along every inside here is going to shoot out a little water when you pull the 2×8 out of the box it comes tied together with this really nice [Music] Bel all you [Music] do it should be that’s how you put together for large [Music] [Music] oh yes there they are you can see the there’s four holes on each kind of arm so part of the setup process that I’m taking into account is making sure that those are all facing in the right direction especially after I turn this up the edge feeling those there and then it just perfectly spaces your bed for you too which I so this part [Music] we we are going to be putting on some full timer soon but I wanted to show you the gist of how this whole system is going to work for us this is um a quick connect that I happen to have and remember when we were trenching all these irrigation lines over under the ground that is what this is for because we’re going to be using our back flow back flow that’s what it is water filter pressure regulator yes which Full preventor yes that’s the I knew there were three things in here and then there’s a quick connect attached all I’m going to do is slide my black poly drip tubing over this which I’ll be doing a bunch more times for all these tubes laying about right now slide this in here and question sorry to interrupt answer are we going to make it shorter so it doesn’t do that yes it is going to be adjusted for length I left this really long because I wanted to be able to adjust along the way but I’ve got all my goodies here because we’re following this line underground goes all the way over here and then it gets really long behind me so what I’m going to do is put an elbow right here I’m going to run this straight along the black metal edging dip under the metal edging and then I’ll start running um a bit of a grid where all of these get connected together are you going to mess up the mulch 100% okay everyone take a deep breath this is the first time we’re working in the garden in the new mulch all [Music] right so we’ve gone ahead and trenched all the way around you can see we went underneath the metal edging and we stopped at the point where we put the tea couplet in and that teac coupler is going to give us water to this 2×8 bed and continue on to water the rest what I want to do before we do that next connecting is show you how we’re going to actually connect this 2 by a grid to the the Big Grid I guess you could call it that’s going to take a bit of a riser here now here Eric this comes with a brown but I have a black coupler how would you feel about the black coupler being up in the air I think I’d like that better okay that’s what I was thinking that’s pure Aesthetics that has nothing to do with pure Aesthetics and you know what it’s okay to have a little Aesthetics involved so first I will push this black tubing over that to create the Riser have enough room here to put in the black elbow cup like so and that gets us over the edge poly tubing can cut this here again make sure there’s enough room for the other elbow to go through put in our other black elbow you know it’s so nice you need help no it’s nice to have 500t of tubing but also so it would be nice if it just kind of I don’t know was more a minable to be worked with so Eric is thinking we should try running the drip back over here and down the leg and then we just won’t have a random tube hanging there I think that’s a a good idea worth trying I feel like I would kick that tube well planted look at that there we go so that’s like that I don’t know how we’re going to fix this here it’s going to go like that that is a good question wait well that’s all that okay this is working this is working I’m with Eric’s Vision so far we’ll figure it out actually we can zip tie it to the leg too if we need to with a black zip tie that’s a good idea one more little El one more little elbow one more short piece yep like putting together a little puzzle I’m excited for this I am too do we have black zip ties in the garage we have black zip ties in the garage I’m going to go ahead and connect this together and I’m going to get started on a fixing the next ones and we will catch up after all of that is done before we turn everything on we have the trenches all dug out for the drip line and Christopher is in the midst of doing what we last saw him doing just making just connections he’s making connection I’m making connections yep and we have them zip tied down the leg it’s new for us this uh looks but I think we’re going to be quickly used to it and not really notice them this is another reason why PE gravel is so great because you can work with it over the years as you change your mind and do things the great news is from this angle you can’t see any of the infrastructure and you can’t see any from up here either so I think it’s going to work out perfectly keep going Christopher you’re doing great no response he’s very focused we tested the drip before we buried everything we just buried everything we’re going to turn it on and show you how it’s working here we have the 2×4 Garden minutes Garden grid watering system installed in our 2×4 elevated bed that we got from Gardener Supply and it’s in our gardener supply shop Chris will put a link in the description I really like how it gives you very clear delineation as to where to plant and you can see it’s a nice even amount of water and once all the plants are in here you won’t even see the Grid it’s going to be amazing I love it I think this Garden Grid’s going to give us a lot of happy planting shall we do some plan I think we should do some planting the grids look fantastic really really really happy with them and I think it’s going to give us this perfect layout for how we’re going to put these um seed babies in there I like to call them seed babies I’ve nourished them since they were little itty bitty specks the first thing I’m going to be putting in is the black strawberry tomato which as you can see I started way too early I did follow the SE packet it said six to eight weeks and I did eight weeks and clearly I could have done three but I do think they they got a little bigger than I had expected them to I really like this tomato I the seed is from Baker Creek they always have the coolest varieties and colors and whatnot it’s also a really delicious tomato it is I think it’s better for cooking I believe I I read that on the um on the website it really is a lovely tomato it starts out really really black and then it gets sort of Jewel toned and we’re not homesteaders or professional food Growers so we’re just kind of doing this for fun and learning as we go and you know if you guys learn along with us give us some tips in the comments you’ll notice that I’m not burying the Tomato super deep that’s because I already did when I potted this up from the cell into the um one gallon container that it’s been growing in so I’m confident it has enough of a root system I know that something that I see people do a lot is bury their Tomatoes pretty deep but I promise you it’s been buried very deep I guess the next thing I’ll do is write in front of it this is parsley doesn’t look fantastic at the moment because it’s been in this little cup and I have had a hard time for some reason keeping these damp but they’ve got really nice Roots tuck this right in here well we’re not going to have have a hard time giving them damp with our new Garden minutes watering G no they’ll be damp in less than a minute um so here is an oregano just I mean I’m I went pretty simple I didn’t want to get any kind of fancy varieties when it came to the herbs this year the oregano smells really good yeah the Tomato smell really good too I think I might have to cut these pieces of parsley back is that a thing do we cut parsley back when it looks like this uh let’s let it get in a little bit okay next up on our lineup is a seed that Eric chose it is the fairy tale eggplant I love these leaves I think they’re really cool it’s a really pretty plant it is not in fact a dwarf plant as Eric suspected it is a dwarf eggplant I think the egg I think the plant is small too though we shall see we shall see if it is small to because there’s two of them right next to each other yeah but you know what they are 12 in apart and we’ll see what happens that’s true this is my favorite way of planting I I could do this all day barely even need the travel you don’t have to bend over [Music] really oh look a second fairy tale eggplant let’s go ahead with that you know what’s so weird we have mosquitoes out no way I know yes way in May in May that’s that’s a little early it’s a little early for mosquitoes we are about 2 and 1/2 weeks early in terms of our safety date which is usually Memorial Day for us so I’m okay with that as I look at the forecast and I know that we don’t have any more nights after tonight under 50 that’s very very exciting yeah it’s going to be 47 tonight here on the lineup of Italian selections would be the hot and heavy pepper I believe this is a proven winners that may is it it might be discontinued I’m not 100% sure I’m not sure either heard rumors that the seed line is being discontinued but I’m sure someone else will take up the seeds oh I hope so another company will probably end up selling them this is a really good variety I like it because I have you know the sensitive tummy in the family so it’s good because I can enjoy these and not feel so upset afterwards and then the last thing that we’ve got going in here is pesto besto basil rather thickly planted but my rais beds my rules and they have really beautiful Roots so I’m just going to pop them right in here Eric why don’t you pan over here and show everybody what might have happened a few minutes ago so we could make sure we liked it tada we had double of everything that we needed so we decided to make a little mirrored effect I think they’re going to be so so cute who doesn’t love a little symmetry right just a little bit I have no idea if this is going to work in my mind what I see are these jackly little pumpkins that Christopher Grew From seed growing up the trellis and over what the pumpkins are going to do I don’t know they might need a little support well they’re little pumpkins they only get three inches wide yes so I’m hoping they just dangle beautifully without falling but they they might need a little netting or something under them but it’s just going to be like a cute fun experiment I think it’s going to be more than an experiment it’s going to be a successful activity should I plant this in the center of the grid you think so it gets nice even water probably cuz pumpkins do get a pretty big root system but that oh that looks so good and then Christopher wanted to try a Cypress Vine here in the elevated bed just for a little bit of pretty and it’s a different texture I know it’s somewhat of a red flower but I think it’s a delicate enough red flower that it will blend in in its surroundings it’s a gentle red yes a gentle red and then we’ll train that to go up and over and then of course we need a little Rosemary I liked this Rosemary this was French Rosemary I think the seed was from Rene’s Gardens oh yeah it was really nice last year it got pretty big I was kind of hoping it would survive over the winter I think it’s a Zone Seven perennial m and even though we had a Zone 7 winter they were in containers so that’s true so we’re going to repeat it again in this 2 by8 down here this little Cypress Vine I’m excited about Cypress Vine it’s something new and then of course after I started the our traditional Cypress Vine I discovered that they come in pink and white oh jeez and we are amateur food Growers to wish us luck this is really just for fun you know it is for fun and it frankly it is beautiful everything out here is going to have different textures of leaves different colored fruits and we know those strawberries worked last year they were good yeah so that’s it we’ve got our Jack B Little Pumpkins growing up over the vines Cypress Vine Rosemary Seascape strawberries Amo no besto pesto uh hot and heavy Peppers the fairy tale eggplant strawberry black strawberry black strawberry tomato tomato parsley and oregano so far and then what I’m thinking is potatoes in that bed maybe cabbage radish carrots I don’t know we try to think of like well what what are we actually going to eat that’s the part we’re at now is what do we actually want to put in these bed CU I love beets potatoes carrots like root veggies right what do you like Christopher those well I’m kind of in the same boat I was thinking should we try a lettuce of some kind we could do lettuce it’s a cool season so we can either do it right now or we can wait till the fall to do it oh well I I guess I have to think fast also we’re very guilty of going to the garden center and if we see it and it interests us we grab it so that could happen that’s what happened in the 2 by tws last year we had um chokes they were really pretty it was really cute so I think it’s a great start to the growing season thank you so much for joining us today to install our irrigation and our elevated beds and plant some veggies plant some veggies that Christopher Grew From seed so again I’m Eric and I’m Christopher and we’re to grow from E gardening thanks for growing with us [Music]

Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous! I got more excited how you did the irrigation so cleanly then planting the plants! LOL My OCD was so content. 🤣I would love to have those raised beds! Can't wait to keep following your babies progress. 😊
I love the grid system. If the tube flopping irritates you, they make zip ties with holes in the end so you could screw it to the wood sides of the raised beds.
Hi! We couldn’t hear Eric Explaining with the background music. It’s a little loud. Not sure it it was on purpose or not 😅🙌🏻 great video though
Looks nice. So you decide not to move the raise beds into a different layout?
Looks amazing ❤❤❤
Ahh can’t wait to see what happens
Great video thanks for the inspiration ,info&demo.nice grids. veg.look so good. i never knew there was a cypress vine.those vines are so pretty.
Oh my gosh, you are inspiring me!!! Thank you for this great video!
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Do you use a certain brand of irrigation products?
You can add a four zone timer so different beds run at different times, automatically.😊

Steph from Hooked and Rooted grew acorn squash from an arbor last year. Worked great. I have no doubt your pumpkins will thrive! The irrigation is fantastic!
Christopher! You did an amazing job with the seedlings. While I do love going to the nurseries and picking out plants there is something special about nurturing and taking care of a plant from seed to maturity. I can’t wait to see how everything turns out!
I just love you guys. You're such a cute couple with gorgeous taste and you share the most amazing products for me to yearn for. Thanks for you.
Your entire landscape is absolutely beautiful ❤ I love all the different structures you have placed throughout your garden. Question…may I ask what the tree behind your raised garden beds is, the 1 with the pink blooms. TY 🌿🌷🌿
I so love your gardening enthusiasm! I feel very excited myself, having just planted out the 11 tomato plants I grew from seed. I thought my tomato plants did well, and they did, but WOW Christopher, that tomato plant is amazing!
Irrigation makes all the difference! Happy you found a solution that requires so little setup. Just wanted to hear what you were saying instead of the very loud music! Fortunately it didn't last too long.
Loving the lush & lovely spring greens of your property, so pretty. Your “from seed” veggies look so good, Christopher-I’m envious! 💚💚💚
I'm going to have to watch this video many times. It's hard to find gardening channels that make growing food look nice. As always, you guys are so helpful. I have wanted to install those grids but couldn't figure out how it all worked. Wish you guys lived next door so I could call you for help, haha.
Don’t doubt the veggies will be a success like the rest of your garden! The grid system makes it look like more can be packed in 🤔👌
Love your videos but found the load music drowned out a lot of your explanations 🙁🙁
Those grids are AMAZING! You did a wonderful job setting up the drip lines. It looks so clean! I love the entire set up!
You guys are awesome! I love the raised bed idea. Don't quite have the money for it right now but gave me some ideas. Thanks!
