Hybrid Vinca Plant Care

Here are some tips for caring for hybrid vinca plants, also known as periwinkle plants:

Watering

Water the plant deeply once a week, or more often in hot weather. Water the roots, not the entire plant, and allow the soil to dry out between waterings. In the summer, water once a day, and in the winter, water once every two days.

Temperature

Vinca plants prefer moderate temperatures between 60–75°F (15–23°C) and average humidity levels. They can tolerate temperatures as low as 30–40°F, and planting them near a wall can help protect them from colder weather.

Sunlight

Vinca plants grow best in full sunlight.

Fertilizer

Hybrid vinca plants don’t require heavy feeding, and can thrive with monthly applications of fertilizer like cow dung, mustard cake, or peanut. After transplanting, water thoroughly without fertilizer, and then begin liquid fertilization at a rate of 100–150 ppm N after a week.

Other care

Water the plant until the roots are well-established when first planting. Water earlier in the day to allow the leaves to dry in the afternoon sun and prevent disease and mold.
