am very passionate about this next presentation cuz this body was built on potato okay this is a four-piece Treasure Island edible potato vine set now you’re getting four actively growing plants and you can grow them yourself you know what’s in it you know where the dirt came from it came from your yard and I have to assume because they’re from Roberta they’re super easy to do ourselves crazy everybody hi good to see you too I know um so wait a minute already this season I’m just hearing over 3,000 have been picked up I think that’s right there’s only 250 left it’s the very bottom of the barrel but they’re awesome but that’s where they grow that’s all that’s left and what’s really fun about this is you might think oh I need to have a big yard space to grow these sweet potatoes I know it doesn’t say that verbatim sweet but these are sweet potatoes they’re sweet potato they’re not your white potatoes these are your um awesome flavors you’ve got two different types here now actually let me hold them above their so we’ve got a one here this is called the cura sweet potato like a garet sort ofor and then you’ve got this chartreuse one a macatea now both of these are extremely beautiful plants but they also produce amazing sweet potatoes that you’re going to eat and harvest now this is the world’s first Mary cuz typically in the world of sweet potatoes you have either ones that produce the edible sweet potatoes or they’re used ornamentally and they don’t produce the sweet potatoes but just a few years ago at Louisiana University a guy named Pat Fitzgerald bred these cuz he wanted the Bel Best of Both Worlds he wanted a sweet potato that looked awesome in container and when it’s done just pull this out and you got some Thanksgiving meal you know and it’s it’s honestly genius cuz these look awesome in your containers in your mixed beds but it’s a twofer cuz you also get to eat them I mean how can be wrong okay so they show up looking like what and then what do we need to do yes well they look like on the right there live plants and as you plant them either in your containers or in the garden you’re going to harvest these beautiful sweet potatoes like what you see here rich in fiber beta carotene all kinds of minerals you can see the leaves are very beautiful now you’re getting two of the dark leaf and two of the Green Leaf traditionally sweet potato vines are something that are used in mixed containers because they look so attractive they’re sort of your Spiller out of the the filler you know Thriller and Spiller combo but this is what you get right out of the box this is four live plants now you’re going to see how they like to vine you’ve also got that here down on the bot Trail a little bit yeah that trailing effect is why they’re used so much in mixed containers with some taller flowers and whatnot but when you look at these and they’re so well rooted with little baby um sweet potatoes it can be hard to get out sometimes but so here you go this is one of your live plants put these in containers put them in the ground it doesn’t matter they’re going to look awesome now I’m a farmer I grow these all over my property okay because I want easy food that I can that also can last like stored for a while cuz once you harvest I mean you got months in in the cooler but what’s fun about this is even let’s just live in a deck like right now I’m temporarily out here at Westchester I live in Indiana but I come out here for QVC yeah and I live in an apartment and I think about people that live in apartments or that don’t have a lot of yard space I actually love growing these more in containers because it’s easier to harvest so I’m just going to put one you could put two in one container just throw that in put some dirt on it water it now after uh about 2 and 1/2 months which by the way your plant’s going to get huge you can eat the leaves which are fun cook them like spinach I don’t like eating them raw but I like eating them steamed or fried and that’s a that’s done all over the world then eventually all of your container is going to be filled with sweet potatoes oh my gosh so and that makes it really easy to pull out versus the ground and love sweet potato the flavor like how many vegetables are actually sweet very few not many um so I mean very few sweet okay then you threw in some marshmallows and the 8-year-old came I mean that looks fantastic but you could put a little praline over the top of it too now you all taught me years ago if we are going to grow something that feeds us we have to feed it so how about Sun food water all those things so these Love full sun they can handle a part day sun but they’re going to do best with full sun watering wise they’re not hard to take care of uh you’re not going to be out there with the hose every single day I do recommend using the Bounty uh because like you said you know you want to make sure your food is really nutritious but they don’t just pull the nutrition out of thin air they got to have that access to so and a lot of our soil these days it’s really depleted so we like to add that back in um and anyway your plants are just going to be healthier for it even if you don’t want to eat these though at the end of the season you can see their beautiful color how much they I mean these just got going from what I showed you that live plant yeah this is just a couple weeks well and I know this isn’t the point too I bought three sweet potatoes at the grocery store and the I mean the bill was nut especially organic ones yes and so to be able to grow them right in the backyard amazing and from what you showed us how they arrive to the Fuller plants here on set about how much time uh literally a matter of weeks to get to this size but these aren’t full grown that’s the thing they will continue to grow out on on top of the ground and top of the pot but really a lot of their growth is going underneath okay and then that’s when so after about 90 to 100 days you’re going to be able to pick and eat the sweet potatoes but up until that point you get to enjoy the beauty of the leaves so it really is a win-win they’re so easy to grow and when you pick your own and feed your family there’s a certain satisfaction there that doesn’t come from store-bought the truth that’s the truth especially if you can do it in containers on your deck and you get so much pricewise I know $29.98 for four actively growing plants I mean 750 a plant imagine how many potatoes you’re going to get from each plant so they ship for free there are not many left to go around at all but grab them before the actually now there’s only 150 left uhoh um but there’s a great God a grow guarantee you know we’re happy when you’re happy we assure your satisfaction with our perennials for one year and our annual tropical plans for 90 days from the time of shipment give us a phone call Mary if you need replacement plants if you have questions we’re there with you every step of the way and send us photos of your dozens of sweet potatoes that you ended up I think I won’t um Dereck thank you for being here
