Hi all! I’m looking at getting one of these portable greenhouses to put on my deck. I plan on putting all my indoor tropical plants (pothos, philodendron, ficus, aloe, some succulents) in it over the summer to treat for thrips using beneficial bugs instead of having a bunch of lacewings in my home. My deck is in bright direct sunlight with the only shade being provided during early morning sun. From what I’ve read the green will provide more filtered light opposed to direct. Which would be the better option for me considering all these factors? TIA 🙂

I got one I’d do clear but just make sure you tie it down well, mine actually broke a week after I got it. Storm twisted it all up… I’d try to go with another option. Although I’ve seen other peoples surviving longer than mind did on here

I have a green one and love it. Make sure to secure it really well before you put any plants in it!

Green means it’s absorbing the same color light that your plants need to photosynthesize. I’d go with clear.

I’ve had clear ones and green ones and for outside I actually like the green ones better. It is going to be hot, hot, hot though. I have this exact green one, it’s been great for spring, mine gets sun from the early morning until about 2-3 pm and I have to run out by 9am at the latest to roll the door up, it’s usually hitting nearly 90 degrees inside by then (when it’s only 60-65 degrees outside!) The temperature will normalize some after opened but it still runs north of 85 degrees when 70-75 outside. I run a fan constantly in it but even with the door up and fan on it’s already getting too hot during the day and the last plants I have in it are coming out this week then I will take it down for the summer. I really don’t know if it will work with your sun exposure (only shade in morning?) unless your daytime temperatures stay really low or you put A/C in it. I’ve never tried shade cloth with one, maybe that would help, clear one with shade cloth?

(To secure it I used some extra landscape blocks I had around the outside perimeter, I used doubled up landscape fabric under and behind the blocks so they wouldn’t rub on the cover and wreck it. I’ve used it for the last 3 months and it’s in great shape. It’s in a decently protected spot on my back patio though!

  5. I’ve got a green one, I read somewhere that green is better for sprouting seedlings? Not sure whether that’s true or not as I’ve never used it for seedlings, but the green does give a bit of shade as my cacti move towards full sun. Where you’re going to put it, personally, I’d use a green one as they get hot quickly in full sun.
