[Music] what’s going on guys appreciate you stopping by so I thought I’d give a little tour uh we’ve got the garden started it’s uh it’s underway uh definitely not complete I figured I’d show you what we’ve done so far and kind of what some of the plans are so I’m going to spin this camera around and uh and share what we’ve done so far all right so this is our gardening area and like I said it’s a work in progress so this year we decided to go with the raised uh galvanized beds I think that’s really going to work out uh we got some uh super soil brought in and we were just absolutely inundated with weeds and a particular weed that we really had a problem with and it’s still present is called horse tail and I’ve never experienced this weed before but it’s Relentless and from what I’ve read extremely difficult to get rid of so if you have any experience with horsetail weed please share in the comments below so we hope that the weeding fabric is going to stop the horsetail weed from coming up as well as anything else and all right so let’s let’s go along so we got three different sizes here of the raised beds as you can see uh this is a smaller 4T it’s 4T wide 2T well 4T long 2T deep and by the way we got some garlic coming up here that we planted last fall and it’s looking fantastic and we have a 6-t bed here in my big Shadow that’s a 6t bed it’s 6 ft long 3 ft wide and also by the way these are blueberries and we’re looking to add one to this area and then we may add a few more elsewhere um in addition to the galvanized raised beds we also use containers we use uh buckets as you could see over there there’s potatoes and all those we’ve got a uh roma tomato here we got some more Tomatoes over here uh this is our largest bed it’s 8 ft long 4 ft wide uh we got a compost bin right there that we continue to add to and you can see there’s a there’s a wise owl looking over the area to keep rabbits and stuff at Bay and by the way we’re going to cover this weeding fabric cuz it’s certainly not the most attractive but we’re going to cover this weeding fabric with some cedar wood chips I got a load coming next week and those cedar wood chips are also going to be used elsewhere as mulch so got another container there that’s another tomato plant another tomato plant there so this is the the horse horse tail weed and you could see I mean it it was just Relentless last year it we could not keep up with it and what the plan is in this area and comment below if you got any ideas we’re going to lift up these wooden raised beds we’re going to move them out of the way and all this soil we’re going to try to get rid of it and probably Chuck it in the woods and then we’re going to cover this area and it’s a shame because we’re we’re wasting this this mulch this that we laid down last year but it just this horsetail weed is just unbelievable so we’re going to cover this area with more layers of weeding Fabric and then we’re going to go back put the wooden raised beds back in uh we were talking about buying more galvanized but with uh the medical bills and stuff that I got coming and I I can’t afford it and and and these will work for another few years so we’re going to put these back in fill them with soil and start over and hopefully we’ll get that done in the next couple of weeks here in Maine uh growing season is just starting and we’ll probably go into these with transplants rather than seeds and uh we’ve got some rain coming up but this weekend maybe we can knock out uh some of this so and you can see we don’t have stuff planted in in some of these yet so that’ll be coming up here very soon this one there’s nothing in it there’s nothing in this one there’s nothing in this one actually that 8ft one over there is also bare this this is uh rhubarb again my Shadows helping out here uh the person that owned this property before us had planted onions and that this keeps coming up every year they’re they’re very small um and once the uh vegetation starts dying off we’re going to go ahead and pick it last year we kind of missed it but we’re going to go ahead and and harvest it this year and and see what we can do with it uh these are our potato buckets last year it did potatoes and they were fantastic and uh you got little bit coming up right there I’d put the seed potatoes in there and once I see a good amount of vegetation coming up I’ll go in fill it with more uh soil and I keep doing that all the way up to the top and we got a ton of potatoes last year but I’m going to be adding some more buckets uh for the potatoes here soon uh here’s another uh bed and Main prepper girl did a fantastic job weeding this bed so that again is garlic that we planted last year and then she also put some tomatoes in here so I think we’re going to get I really feel good about guarding this year uh as I mentioned last year we got inundated with weeds I feel a lot better this year that we’re going to have more success but gardening is something that you learn uh every season every year uh where I used to live I did gardening for had a vegetable garden I was expanding it every year uh I even had flower beds around the house that I stopped putting flowers in I started putting vegetables like tomatoes and I did some herbs and uh squash and zucchini and I even some cantaloupe and it I really learned a lot and it was it was so reward warding and it was successful got a ton ton of food once I learned you know the the fertilizer that I could use and it took a few years and the same thing’s going to happen here unfortunately I think we’re going to be depending upon this gardening this Garden sooner rather than later with just the insanity that’s going on in the world so I’ll show you just something else real quick let me turn this Tower here uh was a project uh we got one more that is going to be identical to it we’re going to put strawberries in it uh we put some strawberries that we dug up that started coming back from last year and as you can see uh that they did not survive uh we end up having uh a couple of days down in the 20s and uh unfortunately uh we murdered them yeah that that’s what happened so we’re going to put new strawberry plants in this and um you know a a a tower like this requires a ton of watering uh especially when it gets really hot and it’s dry out if the humidity is low and you may have to water it in the morning and then again in the afternoon but I like this vertical gardening idea we’re going to give it a shot see see how it goes so folks that’s it I appreciate you stop stopping by Smash that like button if you haven’t consider subscribing for more content like this you guys stay safe take care we’ll see you next time all right just as little bonus content I thought I’d share this so main prepper girl is redoing this whole area so when we moved into this place there was nothing but uh firewood Big logs sitting here I who knows how many years they’d been here and they were just on top of this and there was snow covering it and there were also raspberries that were coming up or blackberries uh but it was you know just completely inundated with weeds so she’s cleared off a lot of the vegetation and she’s trying to make something unique cuz it’s all it’s all shell it’s just all rock so she’s filling in with some dirt in different places as you can see and she’s planning stuff just to make a a really nice flower bed this is right outside our kitchen window I think it’s going to look great and I just thought I’d share so you guys stay safe take care we’ll see [Music] you known for controversial and unique books Paladin press published what many called a professional action Library Paladin was known as a resource looks great…I am not a gardener… but hope to learn soon…. I bought the beds like you have from amazon… but they are not put together yet and I have no dirt yet… cant wait to see how your garden does… get healthy and stay safe….. Deb from South Dakota
Hey John, if you want to save those raised beds and avoid all that work of removing them, get some cardboard and place inside the bed and refill with dirt.
The cardboard will choke out the weeds and you can start growing again in them.
