hi everyone and welcome back to the Garden today I want to do an unboxing of a recipe mix that I ordered from Proven Winners and try to work out the design for how it’s going to go in the Planters so we’re going to unbox these plants they arrived yesterday and um see what conditions they in okay so this is what we have in the two boxes you can see that they came wrapped in light paper but they also each have their own little compartment as well so let’s go ahead and see what’s in here okay so this is what we have uh this is the recipe from Proven Winners called Alcapulco sun and we have four different components so there’s Stratosphere white gar super Bells coralina super tunia Bermuda Beach and superb i Kin and the gar will be the centerpiece and it will sort of float ay like above the others that are spilling out from the container so I’m going to let you see what the recipe looks like and then try to arrange these in the same way that the proven Winner’s recipe says one white gar in the center and then diagonally it has the super Bells coralina here and here and then you’ve got a peachy keen in the back and in the front and then diagonally on the other side you have the super tunia Bermuda Beach so this is the layout of each one and I have enough plants here to do four planter boxes and so my plan was to put all of these together and then on top of them put the jardan bird cages that I got from Gardener Supply and I thought that those would be pretty once the stratosphere is growing up in the center and then all the super Tunas and the superbas are flowing out from it my problem is the bird cage is quite large and I haven’t been able to find a planter yet that it will fit in these bird cages are about 20 in across and so it’s been difficult for me to try to find a container that they will fit well in and so I would can either build one maybe out of wood or another option might be to use a galvanized container and maybe paint it so it’s not so r looking but let me show you an example of what I’m thinking about okay so here is just an old galvanized container that I have in the yard and it is very rustic looking so uh I would buy some new ones because this has holes all in it actually but this is right at 24 in across and so the bird cage fits really well down in there I could paint it black or possibly paint it white just so that it um looks a little more appealing but I think that that might be a good alternative for putting in the plants for now um so that they can have the bird cage over them as well and it’s not super expensive so before we get to planting I’ll need to go and find the new containers but I wanted to tell you a little bit about each of these so the super beina peachy keing that’s this one it looks pretty good it looks like it’s ready for some water and all of these are ready for the soil for sure but its tag says that it has a mounding trailing habit and it’s about six to 12 in tall they like to be about 8 to 12 in apart they are an annual except in zones 8 a through 11b and we’re about 8B so hopefully this will continue and it’ll continue to grow in the planter but it’ll be here next year it says fertilize regularly for best results give it normal water and it likes full to part sun it does have fall interest and um it’s often used in containers and Landscapes because it’s easy to take care of so that’s one and I have had superbas come back for me before the purple kind um that were in was in my previous Garden then the next one we have is the super tunia Bermuda Beach this one also full to part sun it has a mounding and trailing habit and it is a short one so 4 to 12 in they like to be 12 in to 24 in apart and it’s an annual except in zones 10 or above so it’s not going to um come back for us necessarily it is uh normal water and regular fertilizer it likes full toart sun it does not have to be deadheaded it says great for containers and Landscapes and easy to care for the next one and this one has the most interesting yellow Center and is so pretty the coral on the outside with the yellow Center this one is super Bell’s coralina F apart Sun a caliber COA and it likes a minimum of 8 to 12 in apart it gets about 6 to 12 in tall it’s an annual except in zones 9 and above so it wouldn’t be a perennial here it also likes to be fertilized regularly with normal water and full to part sun it does have fall interest and it’s easy to care for often in containers super Bells Corina and the very last one the one that’s the centerpiece is Stratosphere white gar this one likes full sun it blooms in the summer it’s an upright vertical plant growth habit so like I said they just kind of float in the air um and they grow 12 to 24 in tall so it’ll be the centerpiece minimum of 8 to 12 in apart of course we’re only putting one in each container it isn’t annual except in zones 6 to 11 so it is perennial for us and I’ve grown the pink gar several times in my garden it likes to be fertilized regularly with normal water it loves full sun and dead headings not necessary great for containers and Landscapes and it has moderate care so Stratosphere white I think this combination is going to be so beautiful in the Planters and we’re going to go ahead and try to get that settled so that we can get them planted up so this is what I found it is exact exactly 22 in across so hopefully um this will fit well with the plants and with the bird cage for the topper this is a 15 gon galvanized container and I’ve got two of them and I think that I’m going to paint them first I’ve got to drill holes so that I can put in the drip tubing okay so this is what I’m going to use rum painters touch it’s for plastic or metal or wood and it’s in a sort of a teal blue color okay cute enough and I put drainage holes in the bottom of each one I’m not going to paint the inside I think the Galvan eyes looks fine with the light mint green kind of aqua color on the outside so I do have those um drainage holes are big enough to fit the drip tubing in and so I’m going to give them a minute to dry and then I’ll put the drip tubing in each one and go ahead and start filling them with soil now that they’re painted it didn’t take them very long to dry um and they have the drip tubing in there I think that I’ll go ahead and move them to the spot I was thinking in front of the Flower Shed because they will be heavy once they’re filled with soil so I’ll go ahead and move them first and then we’ll fill them with soil and do the planting over there okay so here we are up by the Flower Shed we’ve got each of them painted placed got them filled with super soil which is a mix of a good draining sandy soil uh compost and top soil and potting soil it’s a good mix for the planter and it’ll feed the plants as well we’re going to use a little bit of flower tone in here whenever we plant them but again here is the recipe that Proven Winners provide so it’s the gar in the center the superbena in the back in the front we’ve got the super bells coralina in the back corner in the front corner and then opposite diagonal Corners we’ve got the Bermuda Beach so let’s go ahead and get these guys planted okay and last but not least we’re going to go ahead and put the bird cages on top these were super easy to put together from Gardener Supply and I think that they’ll be really pretty and it’ll give it a little bit of structure and height as the plants and the recipe kind of fills out the planter and eventually this bottom part is going to be PE grapple once we get that filled in and there’s going to be a skirting that goes on underneath the Flower Shed to block that off from the underneath and probably a long step that goes across the front so you can step up into the Flower Shed a little bit easier and eventually this water trough I’ll move that I had that out here when I was soaking the trees and different things that I needed for the Orchard and I use it just to water the plants with but I’ll be emptying that out and moving it pretty soon thanks for joining me today to get this project done I’m glad that we got it done and we found a solution for these uh containers and being able to fit the bird cages in I have got some of the jardan um trellises that I want to put up to on the side of the Flower Shed and then I’ve also got three of the matching jardan Arbors to put up so I think I’m going to use those to connect the raised bed area over to the orchard um so that’ll be upcoming in future videos and also I still have enough of the this recipe to do two more Planters and so I’m going to be thinking about that and how I want those to go in the garden as well so thanks for spending time with me today in the garden and until next time I’ll see you in the next video [Music]
