Hello Friends,
I wanted to share an easy and budget-friendly way to add interest to your garden. The mulch in my garden was getting out of hand due to the Nebraska winds, so I decided to create a small rock garden in the front to match the rock garden in my flower beds. I still need to add plants and a fountain, but this has definitely helped with the mulch problem. So join me on creating this fun garden project.
P.S. My mom helped me with this on Mother’s Day weekend. I couldn’t have done it without her. She is my rock, and I love spending time with her, especially on fun projects like this.

Throw It To The Ground good [Music] job good job yay what this one that one please good job yeah [Music] o [Music] Hello friends welcome back to my channel my name is Melody and welcome to my simple Valley Home in today’s video we are going to be doing a little Vlog I’m going to be creating a beautiful Rock interest Garden in my yard and I wanted to take you guys along with me in this process and show you how easy it was and also very inexpensive this was actually my Mother’s Day gift that my husband decided to give to me so I was so thankful and also I recruited my mom to help me and she was so happy to help me as well she loves doing any type of gardening work with me so go ahead sit back relax and enjoy this process with us it was definitely a fun video we had so much fun okay so today’s plan is just to take The Mulch away somewhat I’m having problems with this area when it’s super windy here it blows The Mulch over here and I create like this little line and it’s so messy and annoying So the plan is to create River Rock bed over here in my front landscaping and also over here in this little bed as well because this mulch flies this way when the winds come through so we’re going to create a little corner so let me show you guys what river rock beds we have created in the past and so we’re doing just the same thing um just a side note also there will be eventually a fountain right over there I’m thinking like a three tier four tier mama is voting for a rock Fountain Bed a RI a rock Fountain instead of a regular Fountain but we’ll see how it goes have the water come out of theck have the rock water come out of the rock but anyways here’s my rock bed over here that we created last year in May we did this because there’s like a little slope here and I wanted to build this bed nice and flat and So eventually there’ll be plants spilling out but you know one step at a time Limelight hydranges will go here but here’s what I was seeing when I created a RI excuse me guys this a little rocky here this little river rock bed is what I created last year these are my Bleeding Hearts by the way so cute I need to paint around there the ground sunk and so no I need to finish up over there but you get the idea of the color variations and stuff match with my wall um but yeah so we’re creating this today in the front and on the side so we’re hoping to get this done this weekend but guys this is so it’s not hard it’s you just got to you know have the heavy lifting and of course a truck which my mom has so thankful for that but um yeah we’re going to do that this weekend it’s a Mother’s Day weekend and I’m just excited to do this with my mom so even though some people are like Okay Mother’s Day relax not me I want to get yard work done that’s my therapy I love it so this side note it is a Friday my son is at daycare right now so we’re going to be doing this while he’s at daycare tomorrow’s Saturday and that that’s when we’re going to be getting the remaining of the rock so for right now we loaded up the antique Creek Stone from The Rock Palace is what it looks like different variations and sizes so again we’re just going to create a border this way natural border and then the rest is going to be rock with other rocks filled in I didn’t want to do a rock around the side because um it would cost a lot more and I feel like there would be too many gaps so that’s what we’re going to do we’re GNA start off with the tarp right now and get that going while me and my mom wrestle with this tarp I just wanted to let you guys know that this project was very inexpensive I know I keep saying that but it really was compared to paying for labor when you do it yourself you save so much money so this project was a little over 300 if I would have hired this out I guarantee this probably would have been easily $800 to $11,000 it’s amazing how expensive labor is these days so I’m going to leave this tarp in the description box down below I did get it from Amazon and I will also leave a couple other items that I used in this project in the description box down below now you guys are probably wondering why I’m using this tarp versus just putting the rock on top of the mulch well one The Rock will eventually sink in so it’s really ideal to get everything nice and flat and so that way you don’t have to mess with this years to come I also find that these staples are easier with winds coming through so that way it’s a clean look you just pretty much poke it through and you can hammer it you can use your fingers whatever you need to do but you really want to make sure that it is safe and secure so here’s what we got so far just kind of created like a little bed here but we don’t we want it to look informal natural so we’re going to start over here over by The Gutter and then we’re going to kind of curve in I don’t know if you can see that line just to kind of create a natural look and again my tripod think of it like the fountain so there’s the fountain and then here’s the area I think that will look really good I don’t know if you guys can see the line so that will definitely create balance and we figured that we would just kind of Pile in some rocks to kind of make a little bit more of a movement than just like a swoop so that’s what that is and these worked out great we just kind of folded them in and then created a staple look yeah it’s really thick quality tarp guys I will have it linked in the description box down below this stuff is hard to get through even with these little Stakes that’s how you know it’s good quality stuff so if you’re doing any type of bed where you want undestructible [Music] the antique Creek Stone you want to make sure that you line up exactly on your tarp so you’re going to map out your little area it takes a while for sometimes for you to get the visual but once you get it it’s perfect so you want to make sure that the antique Creekstone is actually laying on your tarp so that again it doesn’t sink and just create your line make it a natural flow there really is no wrong way to do this the main thing is to make sure that that tarp does not blow away in the future that it is secure and you pretty much just map out whatever ever you want in your garden [Music] space okay so here’s my back patio I’ve been storing rocks for my previous uh jobs so we’re going to go ahead and grab one this is this is not a vlog than what is we’re going to try to get this guy over here um what do you think it should should I move the the grill over and then come from this side probably right it okay put over right here good if this spider comes out I’m going to be this probably there are or snakes oh there’s a Wolfie oh well that’s some freshh uh dirt rly py no rly pulley in this worm sorry guys the worms the worms are actually good for the soil yeah all right there we go we’re at the Flintstone [Laughter] yard we are back at the Rock place this place is is awesome I could spend all day here this place has so many Boulders for you to choose from I was pretty much overwhelmed with what size shape color I wanted but I ended up picking out a few I really wanted some height in my garden bed I wanted to create a visual interest in just having it being being flat especially from the street I also picked up some River Rock here with my mom I thought that it would be nice to add some different types of stone besides your regular Pebble Stone and your Boulder rocks I want wanted to create that interest I wanted to create impact just like my side BS but make it a little bit more fun and [Music] interesting yeah that’s yeah [Music] hold on get it right in the middle okay hold on what what are you doing I don’t know trying to do hold on hold on ready let go wait more I’m sorry okay scar what if we put another one in there no then we just roll on [Laughter] to hold on you know I just soon jump it on the ground no no no just okay put the dolly underneath no just let it go let it go just let it I’m afraid I’m going to bust the whe no you’ll be fine I don’t know it’s plastic did you get that on the ground anyway rolling over there now [Laughter] okay little tires are almost mle okaying it wher the hell it’s go all right we’re where you think right there yeah that’s where it’s going oh my God I’m d [Applause] [Music] oh my camera it’s okay y oh my [Music] God I don’t know she cented pretty well no I I can carry these guys oh my God so funny feel like I’m scared and it did exactly what I thought it was Fe that would have been terrible oh my [Music] God see the beauty of these babies good move Mountain oh my gosh I am so lucky that my mom did not hurt her feet kids don’t do this at home oh but it is not safe I can’t believe we did that oh my gosh but moving on I wanted to have more interest so again adding some rocks more rocks into the corner of my bed I recommend using a dolly guys so you don’t hurt your back it makes it a lot easier to move this stuff especially if you’re just two women we don’t have the muscles so this is what we did I thought having this in the corner would be a little bit more of a natural look again adding more interest and it would just create that element of feature that would kind of carry on the colors from my rock wall so there you go she’s in the corner she’s safe and she’s definitely not moving just like that Boulder I hope it’s not going to move it was Heavy also side note I bet you guys are wondering why is my husband not helping well he hurt his back back in February and he’s been recovering from that so I wanted to get this project done before summertime so here we are and it was totally okay it’s not like something that me and my mom have not done before we are definitely pros at this moving raw okay after almost killing ourselves we got this is space after laying the tarp and then Boulders and regular rocks so we decided to create like a little like a little ledge here just to make it look like a u like a stream right a stream going through so cute I I love how it’s turning out so far sorry for my shadow guys it is later in the day this is like an old day project right now it just looks like we just threw a whole bunch of rock everywhere but um I think it’s turning out really well so we just got these edges here I picked out antique Field Stone is what this rock is called this is like River Rock but also known as glacier and it kind of ties in with my uh Rock on the side of my house and we’re just kind of going to fill it in and then we’re also going to get um Regular rocks too so I think it looks really good so far good morning it’s Saturday and the weather is beautiful and I am looking forward to finishing this project I am just tired from yesterday my bones hurt my muscles hurt and uh me and my mom are going to go head over to the Rock Palace again get the remaining gravel or rocks and get this project done so I can enjoy it and enjoy the weekend today’s um schedule is to do that Dio is going to mow the lawn and I’m going to probably go grocery shopping later today to get some hamburgers to maybe cook tonight and uh we also want to take care of a couple other little projects around the house too so it’s looking pretty good so far as far as our schedule and our son is up he’s happy he’s happy that it’s a weekend and uh we’re just going to enjoy this beautiful weather today [Music] [Music] let’s get you guys a closer l I think it looks great what do you think just kind of tie in the edges over there I’m going to probably fill in the gaps who but she’s looking good I like it [Music] so I realized something when I was getting the Rock from the back just to kind of like sprinkle through oh my God it’s so cute I have my own little California Rock A Little Piece of my old home I didn’t realize that I even had this kind of shape so it’s starting to look really good um we decided because just uh we needed more heavy Rock So to kind of sprinkle in here to make more of that bed look that Lake Riverfront look so I went in the back and got a couple more big uh almost like flagstone size a little air excuse me I’m out of breath uh rocks to kind of sprinkle in just to kind of continue this River look [Music] keep going keep going where’ my S go [Music] hi say hi you came to inspect mommy’s work say hi be fine like this yeah you got help yeah yeah rocks [Music] [Music] yeah all right and here is the final look I cannot get over this space I thought it created so much more texture dep in my front yard it is so beautiful especially looking out the front porch it is just a perfect element to add to our Landscaping [Music] so I just wanted to say I encourage you guys to go out get your hands dirty do the work yourself save some money it is so much fun to create a space for yourself to enjoy especially if you put the hard work into it you appreciate it so much more to end this Vlog I thought it would be fitting especially being Mother’s Day to show a little sneak peek of me and my family going out to dinner we were so exhausted this weekend so it was nice to not have to cook we went to spef uh Pacific eating house and we had so much fun I forgot to capture what we were eating we ate seafood and it was delicious so I will see you guys in the next one my next video will be out next week and that will be all my fun junkstock hauls I can’t wait to show you guys that have a great weekend I will see you guys again bye [Music]

Yall. Are. Dangerious. Be. Careful.
Looks. Beautiful
Oh wow, I love rocks. Grew up.in a riverbottom in Southern California and kow live in central Nebraska. I have hauled in so many rocks one by one to landscape. If we drive somewhere and there are rocks we stop!. I also collect rocks from just driveways and walks and have bought a few when visiting museums etc. Envious of your trip to the Rock place.
I agree with Mom….. a rock water fountain would look so natural and organic. OMG…. you should have placed a board from the truck bed to the wheelbarrow and rolled it down!!!! Someone could have gotten seriously hurt!!!! Mom is quite the trooper!!!! Thats a lot of work, but totally worth it. Please, please be more careful with the heavy stuff.
You and your mom tackling that big boulder had me cracking up! Stay safe out there ladies!! 😂.
Your project turned out beautiful!
Another heartwarming video. Thank you for sharing Melody. ❤️
You can solve the mulch issue with Mulch Glue from your big box store. 🙂 Its also good for pea gravel too.
I really love what you and your Mom accomplished. It really elevates the look of the front of your house. I’m so happy that you and your Mom truly love being together. What a true blessing. You’re making unforgettable memories. Happy belated Mother’s Day to you and your sweet mother.
