I’ve been shopping again and thanks to one of the followers of this channel I managed to pop into little today and pick up an apple tree and that’s this one it’s a pretty good size as well and it’s called a Jonah gold or a Jonah gold not sure how you pronounce that and it gets that name because it’s a cross between a Jonathan apple and a Golden Delicious it is a grafter tree and it’s also self-sterile which as a rule means you need another species of apple tree not the same type to cross-pollinate but on this channel we always do things a little different so I only bought one and what I’m going to do is see if I rely on bees and other insects pollinating the tree forers so we get a few apples we’ll move it into a bigger container as well you can see it’s a really healthy looking plant and it is getting buds on top as well so we’re going to pop that on and give it a try I’m not in a position where I can plant it in ground so obviously it’s going to have to go in a big container and if I could have found another fruit tree I would would have bought two but as I said you can’t just buy the same one again if it’s self sterile you need a different species of apple tree and certain ones to allow for cross pollination so I’m doing easy road I don’t expect much from it this year although apparently these trees flower during May and then they fruit around about October so by end of this season at least we’ll know where we stand and by next year it’s going to be a bigger tree anyway and if we need to get something else to help with that pollination process then we can do that but for today we’re just going to putt it on and get it going I’ve also bought some onions again I got these from garden center and the multi-one and the good thing about that is we can either just plant them out in clums and let those onions grow and push each other apart or we could separate them and plant individual onions these are a main crop one so once again pack a 12 plugs for £2.99 the Apple Tree by the way from Little was $9.99 so I think for the size of it it was a pretty good deal we’ve also been back to own Bargains we’ve got some troughs and it’s these troughs that I’m going to use to grow onions I think there’s plenty of space in there because what I’ll try and do is grow mediumsized onions so we can actually plant them quite close together because as we know if you plant four or five onions together in a bunch they do push each other apart just like beetroot does but we’re not actually going to do them that close I’m trying to get some decent sized onions this year so we’ll probably do a couple of containers of those ready to harvest sometime around August September I’ve also bought a pack of plants that I never seem to have much Lu with at least not in darbishire and that’s cauliflowers once again 12 plants pregrown very healthy looking 2.99 so I’m thinking that now we’re in Lincolnshire maybe I’ll have a little more look we’ve got to keep trying every year and not giving up at first dle so I’m going to keep going and these are called White xl$ 2.99 12 plants a good deal and I found some more strawberries we’ve really struggled with strawberries this year there didn’t seem to be many around but these are called Lauren and this was a pack of six and it was 3.99 they were from garden center but as you know strawberries produce more strawberry plants so we only need a few this year to get us started and prepared ready for next season so we’ll get those potted on as well and then I’ve got a few more of these containers perfect for growing quite a lot of different things in I got another four of those these are from own bargin as well and they’re only 1.29 each a good size don’t forget you need to drill those hes in bottom and then I got some bigger ones same type neede drainage oiles but a bigger size for 2.99 each so it’s probably something this size I’ll start off that apple tree and we can always move it on to a bigger container later but it don’t want leaving in that pot for much longer CU it’ll get root band and that is basically going to slow it down at the time of year when it should be putting on lots of New Growth so another job that we’ve got to sort out I’ve also bought some different compost from garden center I’ve been buying that Verve from B and Q and it’s three biks 15 but I’ve noticed the last couple of bikes that I’ve bought have got a lot of wood in them quite big tweaks so I thought today I’ll change to something else but I still managed to get three bikes for £1 15 and they’re all 50 leader bikes and that one’s called Westland multi-purpose so we’ll have a go with that and see what quality it is because there’s no difference in distance by going from one place to another to pick up either one so if the Westlands better quality we’ll stick with that for now so for the moment I’m going to get o drilled in this and we’re going to transfer the apple tree into it and hopefully it’ll start and put on some extra growth over the next few months so a minute later we’ve got lots and lots of OES drilled in this container so we’ll get this plant out and we’ll see what it looks like and we’ll make sure that we put plenty of Feed in this container as well because obviously when you you’re growing things in containers and it rains quite a lot the nutrients can leech out the bottom so just be aware of that and for most plants I give them a little bit of feed every couple of weeks just to keep those nutrients topped up I’ve just cut top off of that bag and this looks a lot better quality it’s compost without the [Applause] Twigs I think we’ll be changing from being Q to Gin Center and getting that from now on because when you C it you’re not losing as much so we’ll get this pot filled add that feed get this tree in definitely better quality it’s also not as lumpy as the other stuff we have to break up lots and lots of lumps in that Verve so I am definitely changing to this one now and I’m using fish Blood and Bone for this so I want to make sure we’ve got a couple hands fulls of nutrients get that a quick mix and we’ll get that plant out we’ll have a look see what the roots like on this hopefully it’s going to come out without too much trouble there we go perfect you can see that we have got quite a lot of roots but it’s not too much and you can see where it’s trying to go round and around that container but now it’s got a new lease of life so I’ll just quickly rough up that bottom to release those roots that’s all we need to do and then we can get it straight in and make sure we get it at the right height and centralize it as well we’ll just keep adding bits until we’ve got it where we want it so just a little bit more to finish this container off and for now that will do so that’s the start of his first Apple Tree another great addition to this Caravan container garden as own apple tree and obviously we’re only wanting to grow this to a certain size but these trees if planted in ground can reach 10 to 15 ft obviously because you’re putting in a container that’s going to restrict its growth but hopefully by end of year we might be harvesting as very own fresh homegrown apples if not we’ll definitely get some the following year so if you’re interested in seeing what else we’re going to be doing outside this Caravan container garden then please hit that subscribe button press that notifications Bell and I’ll see you soon and don’t forget we’ve got quite a few bits on bobs that we’ bought today that we now need to get sorted out of it next couple of days I’ll see you then take care

  1. Great video Ivan, my potted apple tree is currently on its third year and I got 10 apples last year and judging by the amount of blossom it's had recently, this year may be more. Not massive but enough for a lovely apple pie or two. 😊

  2. Omg Ivan ! Have you got enough plants and plastic containers now? Surely you are going to run out of room soon ?

  3. Never had any luck with cauliflower but never tried in a container so I will be interested in your results thanks for another video and your uplifting spirit I wish you and your partner all the best in your new chapter

  4. Ive had a jonagold tree in a big pot for about 10 years and for the first 5/6 years I didnt have any other trees. Its always done really well so it definitely can be done.

  5. Love the way it’s all coming along there Ivan! I’ve not had much luck with broccoli and cauliflower here in Sydney Australia. It’s such a long time to harvest that either the caterpillars or the heat become a problem before we get there. This year I’m trying sprouting broccoli and a new sprouting variety of cauliflower, as well as a new multi-head cauliflower variety. I’m hoping I’ll do better with progressive harvests over the season 🤞. I have a small yard on a steep hill and grow most of my veg in containers. I mostly use 10 and 20 litre buckets I buy from local restaurants for $2 each. I grow dwarf fruit trees in ground. They produce a lot of food for such small trees! Good luck with your apple tree 🙂

  6. That's a good price for the apple tree & its nice and healthy too. That compost is a great price, the same at my local garden centre is 2 for £18, rob dogs lol, …

  7. You should look into columnar apple trees. They fruit from the trunk and only get two or three feet wide.

  8. Hi Ivan, you could use the verve compost in the bottom of the big pots and just use the fine stuffing the top half.

  9. I've noticed that about Verve compost lately. Picking bits of wood out of it, so it's back to B and M for me!

  10. Ivan, we bought some apple trees from B&Q about 3 years ago now, they were in the bargain bucket section of their garden centre aka "dead plant area"😮 We felt so sorry for the trees😢 Think they were a tenner each. We planted them in the ground and they're now a lovely addition to our garden. I'm no expert but surely all you need are trees that flower at the same time for them to cross pollinate. Is it worth having a look at a B&Q near you, see if they've got any unloved trees you can save? We've never grown apple trees in a container but we have grown Oak trees and Walnut trees in relatively small containers and they've been very successful. We've grown them from acorns and walnuts. A friend of ours grew a cherry tree in a container and that's doing really well. I can't walk past an unloved plant in a garden centre without wanting to buy it and give it a second chance 😂 FYI Tesco was selling off Clematis plants yesterday. 👍

  11. Thanks for the update Ivan, you've had some great bargains with the pots and plants. Look forward to seeing how you get on with the cauliflower. Thanks for sharing.

  12. Thanks Ivan, I think the grafted apple tree is a self pollinating tree and the apples that it produces may be seedless, I'm not sure about the seedless bit but I'm sure that you won't need another tree for pollination. The Westland stuff is pretty good and as you know (you've used them), their fertilizers are good also, so if you get Westlands produce cheap then you're usually on a winner. Take care and all the best. Stevie

  13. As soon as I noticed the title Container Apple Tree I was oh like he's got it. For a tenner (£9.99) its a proper nice tree so glad I mentioned it. Defiantly thought of u when I see it. Enjoy following your journey and nicking a few ideas along the m8

  14. Hi Ivan.
I bought a couple of fruit trees this year, to grow in pots.
How big a pot do you think will be needed??
Also, how do you stop it from getting too tall??
The ones I bought can grow up to 6m in height.

    I'm scared of heights…
    😳😳😳😳😳😳

  15. I got good trees first time. All with fruit buds this year, but ive not fruit buds from all blossoms and wondering if local birds are eating the poor tiny fruit. I need to inspect them at the first opportunity to chck Hmmmm…. wasnt sure birds would do or not? (Learner gardener)

  16. Ivan iv sown so many runner beans im gonna make a maze around my back garden for my grandkids.

  17. I got some westland its not bad but you still get twigs in it i wanted 6 but 3 had holes in them

  18. Gee that apple tree sounds like a bargain! It looks nice and healthy too.
I rely on the neighbor's fruit trees for pollination and get fruit on all my more established trees, so you'll probably be fine.
I've grown shallots in troughs like those with good success. I don't really grow regular onions.
You're going to have to start growing around the other caravans in a week or 2 at this rate.😊 Cheers!

  19. I Have Apple Tree's In Pots, Had Loads Od Flowers On It, Got Apples Now Incy Wincy 1's
Got strawberries In Pots, lota Of Bee's On Them.

  20. In my experience Westland Multipurpose is pretty good, used to get it in large bags from homebase, although theyve swapped it out for their own brand which is wack, doesnt retain any moisture.

  21. Home bargains are fantastic for pots, I've got all of my pots from them this year 😂 hopefully there's someone near you with an apple tree so the bugs can cross pollinate!

  22. Wow Ivan I’m blown away that you got that lovely tree for three quid, what a bargain & hopefully it will provide you with free apples for many years to come👍🏻🍎Annie

  23. Hi Ivan I’ve got a question about some cucumber plants. They seem to be wilting and some of the leaves look a bit yellow. I’ve read this could be to do with overwatering and was just wondering if you could give any advice on if this is correct? Thanks Callum.

  24. Lovely addition to your garden, really enjoy seeing your purchases, Home and Bargains pots look good, will be popping along to them this week 😀
