I’m planting 3 plum trees and wanted to bring you all along with me. I’m adding to my Methley plum and dwarf Santa Rosa plum trees. The new additions are Green Gage plum, Blue Italian plum and yellow Shiro plum tree. I’m showing the complete guide to planting, fertilizing and plants needs.
@AfrikanDreamin #growingoutthebox
you going to call this one of those dirty days it’s raining outside I got these fruit trees that I just got in it’s not about to show today it’s about getting dirty so what I have here is a Green Gauge blue Italian and that’s a shyro yellow and all those are plum trees and what I’m going to do is let me turn these off these are my deer sensors here and they would give you a good headache if you stand out here long enough with them beaming so let me turn those off but it’s a rainy day here in Georgia yesterday we were 80° and now today we’re back down the 60 we have my mealy Plum Tree behind me and then we go over here and we have my dwarf Santa Rosa now the three plums that I just showed you those are dwarf plums trees as well and I have all my plum trees set 25 ft from each other and some people might say 25 ft between the plum trees is too much but that always leaves you room to grow just in case you want to add something in between them or those trees are a lot larger than you anticipated them being so I’d rather be proactive there always something I’m going to say I’d rather be proactive than reactive I can always put things in that space But once you plant these plants it’s going to be a job taking them up and then you’re going to be set all the way back so give them the space that they need and what I’m going to be using is a third of my native soil a third of the Pete Moss and a third of my compost and we’re going to start from I think the other one is 25 I’m going to measure from the other side of my electric fence to the first tree and I think that’s going to be about 25 so let’s go over here and get our measurements done if you’ve been watching the channel on long enough you know I’m a little I guess you might say even a little OCD is about having things laid out a certain way I’m just trying to do the distance between the gate and my first tree which is 15 ft from the gate so in measuring from that fruit tree to this fruit tree I’m 20 ft so I’m 15 ft from the gate and 20 ft apart that means I’m going to start 15 ft from this fence this is where I’m going to just sit my first plant at the 15 so we’ll take our next fruit tree and we’ll put it at the 20 Mark so again we’re going to be using 33% of our native soil 33% of our compost and 33% of our spum PE M if we can get that PH down between a 6 and a 6.5 that’s going to be a happy medium where these plum trees are going to be and that’s what I did on both the uh dwarf Santa Rosa and that methley over there and they pretty much taken off I’ve had the deer destroy them for the past two years so they’ve been throwing back a whole lot but that’s cool because now we have our solar power to energized fence put up so we don’t have to worry about the deer right now on top of having our solar energized fence put up we also have our Sonic sensors they will give you a migraine headache if you leave those on while you’re working out here in the garden so we’re expecting to get some rain back in before the day is out so I’m going to get this stuff all set up and then we’re going to get these holes dug and I may not be able to get it all prepped the way I wanted to today but I’m definitely going to get these plum trees in the ground and what I’m going to do here is measure 7 ft from the fence which is the distance that I know those other trees are and I’m going to put them directly on the center of the root ball and that way once they’re standing up I can just build my perimeter around them so we’ll go over and do the other one we’re going to do the same thing over here basically going to get our 7 ft from the fence line This is where we want to prop it up we got to build our perimeter around it [Applause] all right some things that we’re going to have on hand today I’m going be using this job’s organic fruit and citrus fertilizer to mix into this blend in here you know I’m always going to have my spagna Pete Moss on hand and of course my compost what I want to do now just basically I’m going to spear our Center so we going to do this old school tell you a little little slip knot on there drop that around our stick and we can actually move our things out the way now basically what I’m going to do is just track around this so I can get an idea of what I’m taking out now who think I’m lying when I say I got worms 18 plus Ines out here ooo it’s a little exercise that’s what we do out here we’re just going to mix in some of our native soil with our compost all these worms all over my property no matter where you did I’m constantly adding organic material back into the the garden you going to find earthworms everywhere everywhere so for those of you who think it’s a little Overkill the way I do my plants mixing the organic material back into the soil that’s the result those are your airators your composters your worms right there in the soil and they’re all throughout my property no matter where you dig and this goes out to my guy African dreaming you see this now I’m going to get a a whole lot of people that’s going to come in and tell me that I shouldn’t be digging up my soil but this is how all of this came about it’s a process anybody that tells you that you’re going to start today and get the same results that they’ve been doing for the last 15 and 20 years I’m not telling you the whole truth it’s going to take a process the process is doing what I’m doing right now and sometimes that means destroying it before you put it back together again you’re going to have to just like in construction you’re going to come out you’re going to demolition the site grade it out then you’re going to build your foundation then the property on top of it this is the same thing with your garden you got to build the infrastructure your infrastructure is in your soil once you get it to where you want it then you start building your organic material on top of that you don’t have to bother it anymore this is your fertilizer this is your airator this is what’s going to start penetrating all throughout your property but you got to take care of it and it all starts with process keep doing what you’re doing man I can do this all day tell them to show you the receipts so you want to make sure that you put this in the ground with that graft above soil level so I’m going to measure 29 from the center and go all the way around so what I’m going to do is just add me a slip knot throw that around the tree measure out to my 29 check it again it’s 29 so basically what I’m going to do is try to do a perimeter all the way around and that’s going to let me know where I need to cut at to get my Border in so I picked this up from Tractor Supply today this is the Suncast 60t x 4 in edging and here’s some of the things that I like about this also has the little tubes that go in the inside of it that locks the edging together so you just cut it off so what I generally do is I’ll just toss it out around the bed start at a point and that’s going to give me what I need right there and you don’t have to be exact but then you come in and just take your your blade or whatever and just go down see that good fit just drop it back down there and it’s almost home plate now now what I’m going to do here is I’m going to level it off cuz I want this bed to be level and the ground here has a sort of a slope in it so this is down I can live with that let’s take this down some more this that’s where we at that’s our sweet spot so now all we doing now is just lock it in we always want to make sure that that graft is above the soil level never want to put that graft below the soil line and right now we’re looking pretty good and we’re not going to worry too much about the little grass that’s left in there cuz we’re going to come back and we’re going to mulch the rest of this bed and we’re going to fill it all the way up to the edge and that’s going to be all the weed suppression that we need and that mulch is also going to add nutrients back into the oil as it starts to break down and let me show you a little secret that little grass that you took out from around it is how you put it back that way you don’t have to worry about everything looking shabby right now put it back and that grass will grow right back in just pack it right back around that’s how a lot of times you guys see me working and it doesn’t look like it’s a fresh bed because I’m constantly amending everything back with the original grass that came out and give that about two weeks it’ll be just as good like if it were just there for the last few months you see just put it right back to the soil level and all that does is helps fill in those gaps I I say this it’s a dirty day but know that this is what happens behind the scenes so it just don’t happen and then basically all we going to do clean up just going to rake as much of this into the grass as we can you take some of your soil that’s left over and you fill in the gaps and that grass is going to grow right back through it it’s going to look like it’s never been removed and that also helps it protect it from the sun while it’s reestablishing Itself by putting that soil over it let just pat down some we’re going with our job’s fruit and citrus it does not have to be job’s I don’t care what you’re using but it’s organic plums grapes apples everything that you want to do and I’m going to do one cup and we just going to bro I’ll cast it out and then we just going to go down there mix all that in so we going to my favorite bag Mulch and that’s my Cyprus every one of my beeds has this cypress mulch in it I leave none of my soil uncovered and all we doing is just dumping it in there I want at least 3 in and that’s what’s going to suppress those weeds and I try to go all the way to the edge on that you don’t want that all up on your graph so give your graft a little room to breathe in there let’s take it all the way to the edge and we’ll come back and feel that so just take a little bit out of this one now one of the reasons why I like this cypress mulch I could take you to any one of my beds and brush this stuff back and you’ll see my psyllium growing all throughout it in those hot summer months that’s something that you’re going to need to make sure that these fruit trees are protected we have our methley on the end down there we have our dwarf Santa Rosa and then right here here we have our blue Italian right there we have our yellow shyro and over there on the other side we have our Green Gauge that’s pretty much what we do on a dirty day growing out the box

GTSY Growing Out the Box, great video! Putting that work in! Did I hear you say your were a "little" OCD
Hello my friend. I'm jealous. Nice and flat, all organized, NO rocks is but a dream. We have 4 acres of ledge, and what isn't ledge is rocks. Even our in ground garden is technically a raised bed.
The area where we put our garden in needed 4,
40-50' pines cut down. 20"s +/- in diameter. Set them in a rectangle fashion and filled it with top soil. The rest of the property is mature woods,
nothing but shade. So, between the lack of garden soil, lack of full, dawn til dusk direct sunlight, and an abundance of woodland critters one might think we're lucky to grow anything. We planted one bare root apple tree the year we moved in. By Spring there was nothing but a 12" trunk sticking out of the ground. lol Nope, at 70 years old I'm not starting a war with the ground OR the deer.
Nicely done Keith

I have never seen worms that long.
Love!!!💚🪴
The technique 🤌🏾. The method 🤌🏾. The organization 🤌🏾🤌🏾.
Very organized ❤
❓ I've been looking for an answer maybe you have. How good bad or not does natural organic fertilizers affect the worms?
Question ⁉️ No cardboard as a weed block?
Very helpful I have to get my fruit trees in😊
Thank you, your videos are so informative ❤
Can I do a compost in a regular black plastic garbage can with the black top
I have a compost bin but the wind is blowing it down and I am finding it in the tree line.
Great information you gave just in this one video
Thank you for sharing. Look forward to your videos always. I planted a Santa Rosa plum I bought from HD 3 years ago, flowers every year but not a single fruit since then. Please any recommendations is appreciated.
I love your methods. I need to pick up some of that edging.
Love your videos keep up the good content brother, I will combine your techniques with what I've learned from my own experience and watch my homestead grow. We are currently in Minnesota trying to move to Tennessee to build our homestead

Just sub showing love 💪🏾
Awesome…
Thanks for sharing Bro…
Salute!🍃🍃😎
Thank you! 😉 👍
The level was a major flex 😂 I don't mind that one bit.
Great insight. I planted 2 Yellow Gold plum trees a few weeks back. So far so good. Brunswick, GA.
Nice work! I live in north Georgia. Where did you buy your greengage green plum from?
Just subbed.LOVE your old-school mentality!
Its rare to see someone take as much pride in their garden damn good video very informative
I like your no nonsense video and all planting. Getting dirty today, love it. I planted a Santa Rosa 6 years ago and it doesn’t flower/fruit. Second plum is about 10 fr away. Unsure the type, I think a darker plum/Italian perhaps.
Bro! I JUST got the green gage plum as well! I heard the plums are INCREDIBLE! Love your channel my dude 💪
