Welcome to part 2 of this season’s balcony garden The first seeds to germinate were brussels sprouts along with chamomile so tiny you can barely see them these are tomatoes, and they are about to emerge from the soil and so they did the following morning! nothing else has germinated I’m taking good care of them, giving them water and light one week after sowing and all tomatoes have germinated along with cucumbers and one single pepper Two weeks after sowing, and everything has germinated! celery cucamelon strawberry cucumber chamomile tomatoes pepper brussel sprouts most of them look healthy so far, but some tomatoes are worrying me because they are looking a little leggy I will be thinning them out soon and continue giving them as much light as possible In the meantime, I need to start cleaning up my balcony it’s currently a mess after the winter season these plants (kale, rose and rosemary) made it through the New England winter, including snow storms and all… I’m changing the layout a bit… getting rid of this because it’s not as functional as I’d like it to be… what a mess!! and this wind is not helping…. I’ll have to clean up the planters, but I will do that later on once I have planted everything it’s looking more organized now… Bella and Maya can once again enjoy time out here… soon they will only have a small spot to lay on, but won’t have much more room because this will be filled with plants! the crazy plants neighbor will be back in action soon hehe It’s time to start thinning out these seedlings… I’m really focused trying to decide which are the strongest I’m only keeping two, so this is an important decision hehe I always feel so bad when I do this, even more when the seedlings are looking perfectly healthy 🙁 I’m literally destroying life 🙁 I could simply transplant them to a different pot and give them away but I don’t really know anyone who would be interested and I don’t have space to keep them all in their own pots I’m already struggling as it is to keep these here and make sure they are getting adequate lighting so I have to give the strongest ones the best chance to thrive! I’m really worried about my tomatoes this is almost week 3 after sowing, and I don’t think they are looking as healthy as they should they are quite small and leggy perhaps I should’ve thinned them out sooner I’m hoping that they will start doing better now… I also plan to fertilize them soon… We’re finally past the last frost day in my area so it’s time to plant all the seeds that have been waiting to be sowed directly outside… I got this compost on amazon… it had good reviews (linked below and in my amazon storefront) it’s important to amend the soil to optimize its condition for plant growth first, I’m refilling some containers with potting soil then I’ll add a little bit of compost compost is rich in nutrients that are essential for plant growth, such as nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium… I’ve also decided to add a little bit of perlite to hopefully improve aeration and enhance drainage since that’s one of the issues I had last year due to all the rain let me know how is your gardening process going so far..? how are your seedlings doing? sorry if this video is not very exciting, meaning that not much is happening in the garden yet but the groundwork being laid and the meticulous care taken during the planting process are integral to the success of the garden and this season, I want the share the entire process with you… from nurturing seedlings to ensuring optimal growing conditions, it’s all part of the process that I very much enjoy it could help others to learn from what I’ve done right, or wrong… and I could learn from your tips and suggestions and hopefully be on time to fix any mistakes before it becomes a disaster hehe… I’m now labeling everything I’m sowing today… today I’m sowing different varieties of beans, peas, radishes beets, carrots, watermelon, summer squash leafy greens (spinach, arugula, lettuce) and flowers (dahlias and nasturtium) watch part 1 of this season’s balcony garden series (linked below) to see everything I sowed indoors most of my seeds are from “Sow Right Seeds” they were so kind to send me lots of their seeds to try! (not sponsored, just gifted) all of their seeds are non-GMO, open-pollinated heirlooms so far, everything has germinated! they gave me a discount code: SLOWLIFE10 for 10% OFF I will link their website below! I’ll be getting my herbs seedlings from a local organic farm… I’ll show that in my next balcony garden update if you’re new here, I will link my previous balcony garden videos below in a playlist oh oh, now she wants to play hehe I know that I’m sowing too many lettuce seeds, but they are so small I’ll just have to thin them out later this is everything I’ve sowed today! thank you for watching, and make sure you subscribe to follow my balcony garden journey this season! you’ll make Maya and Bella really happy! 🙂 happy gardening!

  1. Hi, I think you are doing fantastic. For the tomato seedlings, you could use a grow light placed above the plants; they prefer 14 to 16 hours of light to grow strong. I just place an ordinary lamp close by without the lamp shade. Also. it helps to fertilize them, once they have grown their second set of leaves. Liquid fertilizer at half strength. Maybr worth a try for a few and see results. I can't wait to see more:)

  2. What a charming gardening video I loved it ! It’s encouraging to see others start the growing journey as well . Here in Nevada May 30th is supposed to be out last frost date … I hope I can make it till then lol 🌺🍓🌸 Happy gardening to Maya 🌱🍓 and Bella !

  3. Good morning, our dear Claudia, I love your gardening/balcony videos so much! You made a perfect choice of plants for your balcony and so fast it happened that they are evolving! BRAVO! I have only tomatoes, potatoes, basil and oregano now, as I am living with my parents and my mommy prefers blooming flowers 🙂 But I would more like to have a balcony like yours – I always ask, when she plants something: "Aaaand, mom, can I eat it?"…it´s a joke between us 🙂 Your balcony is not a mess, my dear Claudia. It is normal. I have had the same…and have it every spring 🙂 And YES! Fill your balcony with plants and enjoy it! That´s the best therapy for everything! Love your doggies so much. Have a beautiful weekend, much love from Slovakia, Daniela XX P.S. Your plants just need more sun…that´s why they are "leggy", don´t worry, just give them warm temperature and maybe some artificial light. There is only one thing I would do differently – it is – that I would pre-mix the soil in a separate container, so the compost, soil, perlite would be in the same ratio in the whole pot. But your way is good too. I wish you much luck. You are wonderful! P.S.2 If you are planting beans, always soak them for a day in water before planting. It helps them to germinate. XX

  4. Great video! I’m the worst at thinning! I always want to save them, just in case!

Got that same compost from Amazon! I’m trying it for the first time.

  5. Just eat the seedlings you aren't keeping as microgreens, so you're actually getting extra nutrition. I'm about to do mine and I'm planning to throw them in a pesto since I'm not sure it will amount to much mass. Eta probably don't eat nightshade seedlings… 😀

  6. When I was a child, we lived in a house with a large backyard where my family grew a lot of our food. I think it's great that you're doing this in your home and balcony. 💚

  9. beautiful, thank you for taking us along <3 i am currently sick in bed and my seedlings don't look the best, but i cannot wait until i get better to tend to my balcony garden, again, as well! 🥰

  10. You can transplant the other seedlings if you don’t want to thin them, or if you have an empty cell you want to fill 💕 I just pull gently at the root, and replant where I want them.

  11. I LOVE seeing your container garden and how things have been improving. You always make the best gardens on your porch.

  12. Wow wonderful video ❤

  13. I love your garden balcony. It has inspired me to get working on my garden and boy, did I need that. I LOVE how the pups search for that perfect sunny spot to relax. Nicely done!!

  14. I used to feel that way when I had to cut back plants…but I just convinced myself it’s no different than a haircut. The life essence is still there just shorter 😂
