I think it’s time we potted these potatoes on first early Rockets we just started them off these 2 L pots just to get them going when it was really cold so I think now we’re going to transfer them into the final container and hopefully we’ll get quite a few new potatoes so I bought some of these containers today I think they’re about3 each thought they’re right good size these are 40 cm diameter ones so I got three of them we’ve got three plants so we can get as potatoes put in these I also bought some more feed we’ve got bone meal fish Blood and Bone and some Triple 7 grow more so we’ll just stick an handful of a couple of those in bottoms of these containers when we’ve added compost we can get as potato plants straight in first job we need to do is make sure we’ve got draining doels sometimes they’re not pre-made for you so it’s worth checking that even make a few extra ones as well you want to to get good drainage you don’t want to be rotting your potatoes for the we even got started so I’m just going to drop some multi-purpose composting bottom we also need to make sure it’s right depth we don’t want it that deep in that container so we’ll have to put a bit extra in this one I’ve not sied it we’ll just break lumps up as we go then I’m going to add some fish Blood and Bone these are pellet ones so we’re going to put a couple of hands full of those in that’s per container as well going to give him a really good start and then same with some bone meal I’m just going to give that a quick mix by hand and we’ll get this plant out see what’s been happening with it over the last few weeks I can see Roots just trying to come through bottom and you can see we’ve caught it at right time it’s putting Roots out all over now so this we can just gently loosen off and then we’ll pop that in its container and that is about right you can bury your potato plants a little bit deeper if you want I think we’re all right at that so now we’ll just fill this container up to the top [Applause] I’m not going to compact it down either cuz I want these potatoes to be able to swell as easy as they can so we’ll just press that in just to firm it and we’ll leave a nice Gap around that top as well that will do it’s got feed it’s got a nice big container it’s a bit bigger than 10 liters this one so we’ll see how we do with this size and we’ve got us first early rocket transplanted so we’ll do the other ones and then we’ll give them all a really good water and hopefully in about 12 to 14 weeks we’ll be getting some new potatoes so same job as before make those drainage alls try and make them a little bit wider if you can or as I said put a couple extra in a nice elf in a feed you have to excuse any noise in background that you can hear cuz they are cutting grass today same thing again but it’s not gone too far to cause a problem so we’ll just get that popped in again dead Central fill it in and that’s your next one done really quick easy job to do because you’ve pregrown these plants through colder weather [Applause] just fing that down again just like the other just a little bit not too much and that’s your next one done so that’s the three containers rocket first early all set up we’ll just give those a really good deep watering and then at some point tomorrow we’ll get all these transferred but at the moment they’re definitely ready for watering

  1. Very nice looking containers. Energized on getting back to a little bit simpler but stunning garden like you. You black and grey containers are very complimentary to your caravan color. And plant color green pops against caravan bachground.. Well done!

  2. I’ve had to hill mine twice already and they look so healthy. Might try to do more next year than the three I’ve got this year. Cant believe how quickly you’ve managed to get yourselves organised in your new home. Hope you’re very happy there. Stay safe x

  3. I did not know you could transplant potatoes like that. Hope they do much better for you this year. Next week I will be emptying my first container to see if I have any. Mine were started back in Feb.and are started to die back already.

  4. My potatoes are just showing up, planted in a large pot instead of trying to move the.
You're home, and that's got to bring some peace of mind. 🇨🇦

  5. I started off last year with just a small plastic greenhouse from Wilco….But now because of you Ivan I've got a 10'x8' greenhouse and a 8'x6' greenhouse filled with different varieties of tomatoes, peppers, chillies and brasica seedlings, all to go in my containers and a lot that I'm selling (very) cheaply and donating others. Thanks Ivan you're an inspiration

  6. Putting my spuds in buckets tomorrow, thanks for the tip about bonemeal , I'll have to get some.👍🏻

  7. Mine are about 1 week behind yoi so I'll be moving mine on soon. Thanks again Ivan for your guidance, best wishes Andrew

  10. You’re really settling into caravan plant life now. Your spuds look so good.
We share the same dialect I reckon so listening to you reminds me of my Derbyshire family. Take care.

  11. Thanks for the update Ivan,, potatoes look great. Transplanted my potatoes on Monday.. Thanks for finding the time to post video's, whilst you are busy sorting unpacking everything in your new home.

  12. I always learn a great deal from your videos Ivan I didn’t know that you could transplant potatoes,I will try this out ,so glad you are able to still put out videos considering moving home is such a busy time ,we appreciate all you do

  13. Nice one Ivan. Those pots look a good size for new potatoes.
You use quite a bit more fertilizer than I would, but I feed them with a bit of fish emulsion too as they grow.
I'm thinking by next year we'll hardly be able to see the caravan for all the plants you're growing. Cheers!

  14. Potato bags are brilliant, obviously not as attractive as a pot but you can put them out the way somewhere to do their thing

  15. Ivan, I really take my hat off to you, and your wife. You have taken everything life has thrown at you and adapted. I have been following you for some time, and now have so many containers, my Hubbie is getting desperate! I wish you all the best in your new home. I have family in S Lincs so pop down there quite often, though Skeggy is not my favourite place (chip alley).
