How to & Style
listen not everybody has a good-look home and chances are if you got a house that needs a little work it’s probably not the house it’s actually the landscaping that’s taking away from the curve appeal so I want to show you three different homes that went from boring to beautiful using three simple Landscaping techniques that are easy to do budget friendly and this is the kind of stuff that most Pros aren’t going to share with you welcome to Landscaping Made Simple my name is Bobby K I’m a professional Landscape designer designer and general contractor and I want to help you make your front yard look awesome so what we’re going to do is we’re going to break down those three homes that are in different parts of the US and I’m going to show you those design techniques I’m also going to tell you how much it costs if you were going to install those designs yourself or if you were going to pay a professional company and by the end of the video I got a surprise for you all right first off we’re going to Chaplet Hill North Carolina the tar Hills right this is one of those properties that it’s got all the potential in the world but it just needs some guidance I I would like to think of this as kind of like the sandline right you got Smalls he moves to a new town he uh doesn’t have any friends and he wants to be part of the group right and he stinks at baseball so what does he do Benny the jet Rodriguez takes him under his wing teaches him a couple things and all of a sudden he’s part of the team that’s kind of how it is with Landscaping it’s almost like you see all these things you gather up Intel but then you don’t quite know how to put it together and you need guidance a landscape designer a pro somebody to give you that extra boost so this yard starting out I would say it’s just overgrown it’s a little desolate if you look up the driveway you’ve got all these scraggly little bushes and then you’ve got these overgrown Evergreens up against the house so what we want to do is just start with a clean slate let’s widen the beds that go up the driveway and really make a statement with those and by putting some green velvet box Woods along there we’ve got this beautiful Evergreen seasonal like all years it’s going to look good symmetrical formal look and that is going to play off the architecture of the house you see that we start to get some seasonal interest in there by balancing out uh a cherry tree a pink Cherry Tree on the corner with a magnolia Bush and then we’ve got those green velvets that are out in front of the walkway actually taking the landscaping and bringing it out in front of the walkway all the way down to the driveway brings more depth and it ties in the driveway to the front so you’ve got green you got the red twig dogwoods you got some aelas that are up against the foundation you got this color balance going on so we have symmetry and color balance as far as your design technique now let’s figure out how much this would cost I would say overall the plants are probably going to be around $2,500 to buy all these 25 to3 on the high side then You’ got to buy some landscape lighting that might cost you 5600 bucks and then there might be some deliveries involved so overall I think that you could do this yourself with some good elbow grease for 3500 to 4,000 if you’re to hire a company for this I would say you’re going to be paying more like 8 to 10,000 for this yard transformation not too bad you always have to weigh are you better off doing what you do and making money and saving your time or getting out there and doing it yourself having a little pride in that there’s both ways to go and you can have pride in saying I hired a landscape designer and look what they did and it’s still yours right it’s a [Music] win-win going back to our old buddy Smalls we have the potential then you get the guidance and Bam you’ve got this beautiful specimen although I will say there’s one flaw in the movie The Sandlot if you’re a fan why was Benny the jet Rodriguez pinch running at the last scene in the movie like shouldn’t he be getting in there and hitting a walk-off Homer he must not have been that good let’s go to the next one all right next we are headed to University City which is a place in St Louis Missouri but before we get into this design and this thing has so much potential just like the last one I got a goal for this video I would love to earn 50 comments and 50 likes likes on this if you’ve watched a couple videos or you’ve got any value whatsoever out of this video so far consider throwing a comment down there and hit that like button uh not getting a lot of love on the last couple videos and I would greatly appreciate it it lets me know that all the work of scripting and editing and filming and posting you guys are getting value out of this and you really enjoy these types of videos It’s the only way I’m going to know so consider doing that now sticking with the movie metaphors I’d like to think of this one as Laney B from the movie She’s All That You know she’s got all the potential in the world she’s this artsy kind of nerdy covered up girl that can bust out of this and become this beautiful gorgeous prom queen candidate although I will say I kind of disagree with the whole premise of this movie I mean what’s wrong with being a covered up nerdy artistic you know person I mean Hello nerd art design yeah there’s nothing wrong with that but whatever it’s a ’90s movie what are you going to do so let’s start there’s nothing going on here you got pretty much a blank canvas right and then it needs some love this front house it’s it’s a pretty darn cute house I like how the brick was painted it’s ready for its transformation we’re going to do something called layering this is a design technique where you essentially start with some bigger stuff in the back and you kind of work your way to the front Lime Light hydrangea bushes because this is going to get beat with sun we want to make sure that this is going to last and not get get burned up then we got those green velvet boxwoods in front of there so that when everything goes a little bit dormant and desolate you got the green head so it’s still going to look good in the winter and then in front of that we got some dusty miller which is a perennial that’s this white and kind of lime lime is green which is going to play off these elements so you got this green and white going on in the layering effect it’s going to be absolutely beautiful the best part about this is this kind of design can go with a lot of houses and it’s not going to cost a lot I would say the overall planting budget for this is $12 to $1,500 and if you’re to hire a professional company to come in get all the stuff out carve out the beds go to the compost site dump fees The Mulch buy all the plants the labor you’re looking at it probably around three grand I’d say that that would be a decent price to pay and um it it’ll set everybody up for a win so this thing went from kind of bland and a little koi kind of like Laney to B this beautiful specimen that is budget friendly and can go with all kinds of different houses this is one that I highly recommend that you implement for your place [Music] so finally we’re headed out to ucair Wisconsin where this house it’s a beautiful house it just felt completely exposed there’s a lot of brick going on you could just see everything and the height is really kind of messing with the potential of this one so what we’re going to do as far as the design technique is with Heights and textures we’ve got a beautiful red maple we’ve got a crab apple tree a crimson Queen Japanese Maple and then some arbores kind of on the backdrop that are breaking up that brick so now when you would come from the road or up the driveway you see more depth and more height versus just brick up against this house and to give it that kind of wispy flowy textured Vibe we incorporated some butterfly bushes some hamling grasses up along the walkway and some lilac bushes amongst a few others but the point is we’ve got height texture color a little bit of balance going on here we’ve got a bird feeder in the front to balance out that lamp post that’s kind of a cool little touch and it’s just softens the space so height and texture lock on that that’s always a good thing if you want to add some interest to your home so if you’re going to do this yourself I would say overall with the mulch The Boulders the bird planter the the trees the bushes everything probably in that $4500 to $5,000 range to buy all this stuff it’s a lot of stuff going on this is a big house it takes more stuff if you’re going to hire a company I’d expect to pay between 10 to 15,000 on the high side depending on the landscape lighting that you would put in and just everything else 10 to 12 on what we see right [Music] here okay so it’s spring break and you know what that means parties beer bongs bad decisions not really it means my daughter’s home with me all week and we get to do a lot of fun daddy stuff but you know what I figured since it’s spring break let’s just do a giveaway so here’s what we got for this week I am going to give away for only this week 30% off if you are interested in a landscape design that is huge that’s a huge savings however if you stumble across this video a month a year two years whatever down the road if you put spring break in a subject line send me an email you’re still going to get 10% off it’s for the life of this video so you can get 30 this week or you can get 10% for the life of the video send me an email put spring break in there that’s the giveaway so we had height color texture layering we had all these cool design techniques that are going to help you if you’re on a budget and you want to make your front yard jaw-dropping awesome this is Bobby K saying creation is everything gu create I’ll see [Applause] you

Nice ideas. Might be nice to see your designs "mature" 5 or 10 years so people know what it will look like down the road. Another thought is to post some actual photos of your past work of before, during, and after. I enjoyed this video, thank you for posting.
Wow this guy has never bought plants because the set of plants is well over 5 grand unless you want to wait 5 to 6 years for things to grow out. Budget my ass, click beat much, be honest with people it cost a lot of money if you want plant up a home to look like what your proving as an example. If you have some patinates than you can focus on cost cutting, but from his layout and expectation understand it does cost a lot more. Key is time is money and there is no better example than landscaping.
“Your killing me Smalls!”
😂
Thanks for more great transformations!
Our Wisconsin city names are raising havoc on Youtubers lately. Haha… It’s pronounced O’Claire but it sure makes a lot more sense the way you said it. Keep the videos coming!
I totally agree with you on the movie story
Awesome ! Just subscribed as I like how quickly you share the messages 😊
❤❤❤❤how you breakdown landscape for someone like me who is a novice.
THIS is what I need! I love your stuff that you do and gives me inspiration to make my house landscaping better. Thanks for all you do. Please keep it up.
nice
Eau Claire(Oh Claire) I'm going to watch this video again after breakfast and before I go to Menards. Then I'll watch it with my wife.😂😂😂😂😂
Many goods ideas
I think some of the repetitive plants are a little too much of the same thing. The dead grass gives it a bad look. I'm surprised you didn't green up the grass for the final photos. I'm landscaping my daughter's property right now just started and plants are three times the cost they were a few years ago. It is outrageous how expensive they have become. I will have to do some propagating and growing from seed to get it all done. I can't afford to spend so much on plants as I am on social security and using my money to buy the plants. My daughter works seven days a week just to make her mortgage payment. The economy has become out of control for everyone.
Great content ..I am trying to get my frontyard landscape designed but with no luck..loads of ideas but can't really imagine the full picture 😏
Love the video, although you definitely have to have the water situation set up in a good way in most cases and that's half the battle. Soil amending, mulching, all that jazz.
i enjoyed watching the transformation of the three homes. The landscape software you use really helps to visualize what the finished product will look like without all the labor of digging. lol job will done .
I really like that second house with the limelight and boxwoods. Don’t those hydrangeas get really big? They look great packed in tight as you show them but what would be a realistic spacing when planting new young bushes so they don’t overcrowd in years to come?
I really got some great ideas from this video so spruce up MY curb appeal! Ty!!
Love the simple layout ideas at low cost
Great video.
Too many plants when they are mature are going to be very crowed
Got a small house a Hugh shed on a lot and a half with a lot of weeds. Stripped the weeds and racked off the weed seed blanket. Was about a total volume equal to 12 of those community trash containers or 48 of those street trash containers. Basically 10 years of collected weeds and dirt build up of in unattended wild yard growth. That was the first year. Second year was grass. Cool grasses in the back with wind breaks from the shed, house, and alley with one side open to a west wind. The front yard was warm grass, Bermuda, buffalo, and St Augusta’s. The also learned that you do not have to plant only grass. (This is my first yard). Third year (now) I have started a couple of gardens put in a walkway this last winter and started a water thingy. So to the point I like some of the ideas you have but really thankful to watching your planing process. I don’t have that type of software but will be looking for some. For now grid sheets and a fat pencil with an eraser seems to be this evenings project. Thanks MH ps thanks for all the fish
I love your designs! Thank you for keeping it simple 😊
Thanks for this. Want to do something near the New England coast?
