In this video, I’m going to show you the easiest way to make an archway for your vine/climbing vegetables to grow up to maximize space and also create a nice visual aesthetic. All of these materials were purchased from my local tractor supply. You will need cattle fence, in this case, 4 x 17. You will also need 5 foot T posts and something to drive them into the ground with. Once you plant your vine vegetables inside of the archway, you will need to do a little bit of work to train them to grow out and then up and over the top. Once they are making their way up the sides of the archway, it is a beautiful site to see.
hello welcome back to the white oead in this video I’m going to show you how to grow your garden vertically using archways um so I have two 4×10 foot beds that I’m going to use as my Archway um system this is going to be for all my Vine Vine vegetables like my Gaz zucchini squash watermelon we’re going to get them to grow up since we’re really running out of uh ground real estate and those do take up a lot of space on the ground um so for these arches you can go to tractors Supply they have these 4X 17 it’s actually 4T 2 in X 17 cattle fencing so um that’s what we’re going to use um and then you’re also going to need a couple tsts uh two for each side so in this case eight TST I’m going to need and then to get these into the ground need to get yourself a post pounder a hammer is just it’ll work but it’s going to be tough follow me okay so here you can see I have the tpost stage and ready to go and just one thing to note these are 5 foot tsts um and they’re going to act as back stops um to hold the um to hold the the cattle fence in um so once we pound these in we’ll have two on each side boom boom boom boom that cattle fence is going to go in like so and push up along the outside all right well let’s get these bad boys into the ground okay there we go we got our eight posts in as you can see I have a nice trench dug right in front of my post it’s actually a lot easier to do this before you get soil into the bed um but if you’re going to do it after the fact this is how you do it um all right now we’re going to bring the uh cattle fence out if you’re doing this by yourself this is really the only way to carry this to get it ready squeeze it tight all right first our tws in let’s get number two all right so both archers are in however they aren’t totally even um so I’m just going to bend bend them a little bit it looks like this front one’s a little cockeyed so I’m just going to pull this side here all right and we’re looking much better so this is the other thing I forgot that you’re going to need here are some zip ties I’m going to use zip ties to tie this together um if you want a little bit more permanent solution you can get the Little J Hooks that they use or whatever for uh for fencing or metal wire would probably be better but uh I don’t have that right now so I’m going to put it together with uh some zip ties all right all the zip ties are in I’m going to go clean them up a little bit now that I have this all nice and tied together I’m going to back fill around the bottom of the uh of the cattle fences all right now that we’re back filled um once we start our zucchini and our uh watermelon and squash and cucumbers we’re going to want to plant that on the inside right here and plants are just like dogs you can train them as long as you’re consistent so if they’re right here in the inside you need to train those main stocks to go through and then stay on top so they can support the weight of the vegetables as they continue on up um but be consistent and train your plants all right well I hope this video helped you out uh if it did please like subscribe and stand by for more homesteading and DIY content over and out now
