MUSIC BY: www.epidemicsound.com

hey there Sarah here with brown Family Goods I am so excited to share with you today a video on setting up my very first greenstalk Garden so welcome back to my channel and let’s jump right into today’s [Music] video look ahead the sea is coming I know we’ve been through a lot but just [Music] wait wait for better days to come and carry us like went in our Sals hold on tight I can smell the shore it’s right in front of us if we just hold on TI this Vision that I saw is getting closer every da o we are dreamers of the [Music] [Music] sure s years now on this boat and we all know where we belong just wait ooh wait for our home to show on the horizon soon we’ll be there hold on tight I can smell the sh it’s right in front of us if we just hold on tight this Vision that I saw is getting closer every done oo we are dreamers of the shore when we can’t read the sky we just sell With The Wind that we’ve got and when we’re drowning in doubt Just Keep On Believing we are dreamers of the sure [Music] [Music] now we get to dive into the sort of fun part of the greenstalk vertical garden and fill it up with some plants now all these plants that I’m using I pulled out of my my Greenhouse we planted these together earlier this year some of them have done really really well like these nerum obviously are looking beautiful they’ve been flowering even inside the greenhouse and they look great some of the other ones have not done as well they just haven’t thrived in there and I think it’s because it got hot so quickly in the greenhouse there so I have some I have some critiques for myself on my seeds starting in the greenhouse of course this was the first year that I started my seeds in the greenhouse typically I start them inside and undergrow lights and things like that but since I have this new Greenhouse it’s really actually pretty wonderful for seed starting I just needed to begin earlier I think that is the biggest problem that I had with seed starting this year I really needed to start earlier because the days did get pretty warm pretty quickly here and really not even the outside temperatures but the temperatures inside the greenhouse because if the sun is shining it the temperature rises really really quickly inside the greenhouse even with fans and things on so I think I could start earlier for my seed starting next year and I would be in better shape essentially than I was for this year but we live and learn and all the only way to know how to start seeds in that little Greenhouse was to just experiment and and try so I’m not a person that is scared to just kind of dive in and do things now it I’d like to research a little bit before I begin but I try not to overthink it and usually I just try it out if it doesn’t work out then I’ll either kind of take a step back and and redo things or I just say okay well now I know and next time I’ll do it differently the plants that I’m putting into my vertical garden here are nerum I had some dwarf doas that did really well in the greenhouse and those are what I’m working with right the second the dwarf dollas that I’m going to put in I’m actually going to pinch the top of them you’ll see me do that and that is so that they kind of bush out once they get into the greenstock planter here rather than just having one stem with one flour on it I want them to Bush out a little bit and then they’ll make more flowers for me so the other things that I’m going to put are red salvilla I’m also going to pinch that actually think I already pinched it before I brought it out of the greenhouse um colus which is just a colorful filler plant it looks really really beautiful those didn’t love being in the greenhouse I can tell you that and I think it’s because it was so warm in there um they didn’t really do that well they they’re still alive and everything but they’re just very small they seem to really like to be outdoors much much better where it’s not as warm the next things that are going into here are some eona that did Sprout and is doing pretty well and some Cula that is what is going to be around the whole top um row of the greenstock planter and it is doing so well outside and then the last thing is some bachelor buttons which are just a cute oh gosh they’re kind of a dried flower so I did pinch those at one point as well and hopefully we’ll get a little bit more of a bush growth from them and that’s about it I may have one or two other things that didn’t do great but that’s that’s about the that is about all the things that are going to be going into the greenstalk planter so the thing that I love about this greenstock planter of course it has a watering system in there so you put the little cup catch Waters in between the layers and then all the water funnels down from the top layer when you water it in and it distributes really really evenly to all of the layers of the planter so that’s actually super nice because you don’t have to try to like uh water each individual little pocket of planter you saw in the very beginning there I brought out two two cubic foot bags of soil well I can tell you right now that was not enough I needed three of those essentially because what you should do is fill these um layers up completely with soil fill them up to where they’re super flush with soil and even across the top I did not have quite enough to do that I actually had about so I had those two bags that I bought that were two two cub two two cubic foot bags and then I had another 2 cubic foot bag that was about half full that I had been working with before so I ended up with about two and a half bags of so no yeah 2 and 1/2 bags of soil which was not quite enough I needed three 2 cubic foot bags in order to fill these really sufficiently the next thing that I did add to even to the potting soil they do recommend to use potting soil in the greenstock planter and that’s to keep it nice and light you know it’s air rated soil I kind of thought that one of the bags of soil that I had was not very light at all um and it was a bag that I got from Costco of potting mix and I didn’t really care for the texture of it so I did add some of my own pear light to the mix in order to lighten things up and loosen things up in that soil that I used so you can always add a little bit more perite and that just adds drainage and airation to the soil that is the you know the little white bits that you see in potting soil mixes um that’s perite so I bought a bag of perite about 5 years ago and I have still been using the same bag because it’s just something that you know you don’t need a ton of it even to mix in with a lot of soil it doesn’t take too much so I have been using that same bag for years and years and um it it’s great it doesn’t ever go bad or anything like that so the other thing that I mixed in was a little bit of that ferone Gardener special um fertilizer and that is just to add a little bit of nutrition now the next thing that you can do to fertilize this is pour liquid fertilizer right into the top part when you water it from the top so if you had a fish Emulsion Emulsion fertilizer you can add that or if you like Miracle Grow or something along those lines you could certainly add that as well as well just add it you know at the correct dilution for the amount of water that goes into that top watering portion so I’m just getting everything planted out here like on the bottom row I ended up using all narams and then the next row up I kind of did every this is seven layers and there’s six pockets in each layer so that’s 42 basically 42 plants that you can put you could probably double in some Pockets if you wanted to depending on the plant and um it would be just fine like some Pockets I did end up putting two of my tiny colius into there because I know that they won’t be overcrowded or anything like that I had a few of my little seed star flowers left which I’ve tucked in all around the the farm here just in different places and um after I got everything planted out this is the recommendations of the greenstalk little manual that they give you they give you a great color picture manual with all the instructions that you’ll need in order to to fill this up in the way that they recommend so then I grabbed Allan and and let him do the heavy lifting here because once you fill those things up with soil and plants and everything else it it’s pretty heavy it’s not super light as you can imagine so stacking those up uh was a job for him and I wanted to save my back and not have to um struggle on camera especially so he’s stacking those up and then you just kind of lock them in place they have little um notches there where you lock everything in and he starts to question the sturdiness of this design he’s very skeptical until we finally get this all put together he’s like what is what is this thing in here he’s he’s wondering exactly what do I have going on and he’s like where are you going to put this where it’s not going to blow around and honestly there I don’t think there’s any way that this thing would blow around number one if you order that bottom part with the um wheels on it it has locking wheels on there so I don’t think you have to worry about it like rolling away or anything like that that is a separate piece that you have to order uh by the way so get be sure to get that if you think you might need to move it from time to time which obviously you probably will unless you set it on something you know out in the garden I do see people put them on papers in the garden and have several of them like throughout their Garden which looks super nice so back there that’s Sheldon rolling around looking for a little bit of attention he look so cute so I had to include him on my video but then I’m just going to water everything in now I put it right here by my back door for the time being when I first planted it out because I wanted to see it I wanted to make sure that I kept it close by and kept it watered in pretty well so that everything could get nice and established and it has so far so I ended up moving it um to a different spot after I got everything going over a week or so so I wanted to water in you do not have to spray each individual pocket like you’ll see me doing you can just water it from the top down but since this was the very first day and my potting soil was a little bit dry I wanted to kind of do both water the individual pockets and plants and then I also water from the top down so that it it does distribute the water really really evenly so you’ll see the water reservoir at the top and it is just it’s just a great design it really really is this thing has done so well it’s been in the full sun and it loves it it is stayed nice and moist and watered in so I couldn’t be happier with it and I think that you’ll love these to if you decide to get yourself a greenstalk planner so I just wanted to say thank you so much for being here today I appreciate you watching and if you like today’s video I hope you’ll give it a thumbs up and subscribe to my channel to see more things just like this I’ll see you back here again real soon [Music]
