Pinstar Plans Potential Planting Partitions for Points in Mike’s Garden

Mike’s Garden is a match 5 puzzle game where you are trying to maintain order in an increasingly disorderly garden. Plants sprout randomly and it is up to you to arrange them so you may clear them in time, with bonuses being given for removing more than five at a time and lining up and executing combos. To aid you in your quest, you have an interchangeable set of tools you can use when the growing gets tough. Combine that with an increasing difficulty the longer you survive and you’ve got an indie game that scratches the tetris itch.

hello YouTube I am pinstar and this is
pinstar tries Mike’s Garden so yes
another day another new game this one is
a demo it is um available for uh for for
everyone uh on Steam right now so what
is Mike’s Garden it is a uh it’s a
puzzle game I don’t normally go for the
pure puzzle games but this one looked
interesting so you know what let’s dive
in I’ll explain as we
go so the way Mike’s Garden works is
that we uh we have we have our garden
plot here and plants are are going to be
randomly planted so these three plants
are going to be randomly placed in any
of the open and available spots here um
and contrary to what you would think you
want in a you’d think okay we want more
and more plants let’s get as many as we
can not so much actually you lose when
the garden becomes full how you keep
your plants at Bay is you need to line
up five or more in a row and they will
all disappear and you’ll get points um
but obviously you can only match the
like kind plants now the way um the the
way this whole thing progresses here is
each turn you get to pick up a plant and
move move it somewhere else but it has
to be able to trace uh a path there it
doesn’t matter how far you move it but
it’s got to be able to trace a path so
we’re going to stick this cactus in the
corner
here and now every turn in which you
make a move that does not score the the
three plants get added randomly um and
obviously we since we need a minimum of
five in a row we’re not going to be
scoring for a little while so we just
want to sort of organize things
um so I think I think I’m going to keep
I’m going to keep going with the cacti
here just to start building a little bit
of a row here all right so now here the
we got lucky these two mushrooms spawned
in a manner that were kind of like a row
so I’m going to move you here that way
nothing grows in the middle of
it now here here’s an interesting thing
so say I wanted to put this mushroom
here well I can cuz I can go around here
but pretending that this was sealed off
I wouldn’t be able to trace the path it
it’s pretty easy in the early game but
as you go along uh the garden gets
denser and yeah so let’s let’s move that
over
there all right
let’s let’s keep you
going okay so we’re going to get get two
more cacti so we’ll be able to pop
cacti we have the ability to to you know
get rid of some of these mushrooms here
but well first off we’re starting
another little line right here um and
you want multiple lines if possible so
I’m actually not going to break up this
line right here um the other thing is
combos you want to be able to get combos
going um if you clear a line that g that
sets you up for combo you can CLE if you
clear another line with your next move
that increases your combo so you kind of
want to set a whole bunch of things up
if possible so I’m going to move you
over
here okay I’m going to use these two to
set up a line of the Samurai does that
say Japanese ass
kicker
okay get you
there we will get you here so now we can
pop the orchids ah ah this um sunflowers
blocked our cacti so let’s get you out
of the way and let’s get you in the way
of where we want to go here that’s a bit
better all right so
let’s we’re going to get you over here
ah
really all right well and then this is
blocking this off all right I’m starting
to get a little greedy here but you know
me that’s my
ammo greed greed
greed okay I think we need to start
actually clearing some things before we
bomb out
here all right so let’s let’s let’s
start
clearing so we know this thing needs to
get out of the
way actually we can we can
be really greedy like really stinky
greedy and go for a big clear here cuz
you you need five but you get more
points for more get you here a the
greets paying off we’re going to clear
out so much
space okay let’s do this so we move this
one here boom and now we have a streak
bonus so our next clear is going to be
worth times two points which is
fantastic um and we have a lot a lot of
these set up here so let’s pop our
cacti and notice how on each of these
moves we’re not getting more plants
added here whenever you C make a clear
you just get that move for free and it
gives you more points now we’re at a
times
three and now we’re at a times
four um and now we’re at to times
five now I I got to think strategically
here what’s the most effective way or
effective one to remove here cuz we
don’t want to disrupt natural
formations uh I think this one’s kind of
out on its own
Bing um yeah we can’t keep cascading but
that is worth quite a bit of points and
we also unlocked a lot of these points
which allows us to use special tools now
these special tools you can mix and
match um and I guess that is part of the
strategy
here I’m going to move you right there
and yeah that ends the streak and then
things start popping up again so let’s
just keep keep on keeping
on so we’ve got we want to set up as
many of these as we
can let’s see here now the watering can
we have a quest to do
that uh magical element that grows the
same plant species around it
trying to think of the best way to use
this so like what happens if I use it on
this
oh that’s what
happens ah too bad we didn’t have these
up here uh um okay well
um yeah let’s we can do a triple triple
here yeah that’s a
freebie um we do need to get you over
here we do need to get you over here and
now we can go bada bing bada bing bada
bing yeah we have several combos right
ready to go but we can keep we can keep
greeting I’m okay with some greediness
we’ll just take some
awkward awkward boys out of the
mix so these two are natural one so this
one might want to get moved but it can’t
cuz it’s blocked so this one wants to
get
moved all right so far so
good although I can I can I can smell it
I can tell that something’s gonna
something’s going to get in the way we
can’t really affect well we can get this
one in the back
here all right so far not
punished but this is going to be a a
messy one the next the next Trio here um
so there’s the lineate plants I think we
can do our four
streak actually we kind of need more of
these
sunflowers I just
realized we needed actual more
sunflowers to pop them I didn’t even
think that far ahead well we can get
this
one uh I really don’t want to break up
one of these to get the other
one we can get you
and if we use the tool it’s going to
break the
streak dag nabit yeah we can get a more
we can get a four streak
later all right trying to think of the
best combos to get
here this is a natural combo
now see these are all kind of Naturals
but they’re all flowing into each other
let’s get you here and that broke our
streak that’s
okay actually these are two are going to
fight over space aren’t
they well you know what here’s we’re
going to use our first tool we’re going
to snip this that just it costs us one
of these points but it gets rid of the
plant and now we can move you around
here
here and now we’ve got one streak two

streak four
streak and now one more to make it a
real like a real real
one um yeah we can start building you
out
well actually we can start building you

okay so I think we start chaining
now yeah I think that this is a good
start starting point so we take you
no not you not
there actually now we’ve this has kind
of blocked this thing
off no we we can start we can start the
chaining
here I mean unless we cha we just nip
the bottom here but that also do we have
yeah we
have all right you know what we’re going
to we’re going to just keep developing
and get
punished oh well it started our combo
for
us I guess that’s where we’re going with
this that’s fair
enough
actually well we can finish this one on
the top so we don’t need to move that
one

of cuz these two are kind of on the line
these three are in a line actually since
these two yeah no they’re still kind of
in a line this this Lily right here is
blocking um actually no so here we move
this here that clears that out these
actually are all kind of in a line too
so I don’t want to disrupt them we do
need to start clearing lilies these are
out in the boonies we’ll use
these got 24 yeah there we

here um these are all kind of tangled up

sunflowers the
arids
the cacti actually if we move you over
here that gives us another
cacti uh line up
here we going have to clear out space to
make room but I think we can do that

out in the boonies so we do that start

you these two are are Boonies bound
essentially
so get
you now we can grab Boonies well

no this we’re going to have to no we not
all right so no here’s what we do we
clear you we clear you out this makes
room so that we can sneak this one and
clear it from the
backside that’s
better all right um we do still want to
kind of work on this so let’s put you
over
here and then let’s use this to start
lining up some
orchids
I’m going to put you up here so that
this one can still do its thing and
actually this Orchid can move back
here
um yes to make room for the mushrooms
ooh you did not need to grow there my
friend that ruins several plans
simultaneously well all right we can I
think we can
recover oo three uh three sunflowers
coming
up I think I will do one more move to
let stuff spawn and see if we can align
stuff so yeah see we’ve got a forer here
we just need
to we need to make room so that this
pumpkin can navigate pumpkin um
Cactus all right we put you here we’ve
got lots of
sunflowers not in a great location but I
think we can salvage
cuz yeah we can salvage
these yeah I think we need to start oh
we need to get a forer lined up a couple
more forers lined
up oh well that one cleared us for us it
just grew a cactus right there okay well
if you’re going to start the combo for
me game um I’m all for it

but we can’t really do much to free it

spawning this increases the biodiversity
which again for garden you think that’d
be good no that’s
bad H we could drop a watering can on
this mushroom and just have it bloom all
over the
place we could yeah you know what let’s

okay we’ll just prep and Prime these up
for
forers
um these cacti are running
rampant we need to we need to Wrangle
them

start doing our combos are is going to
be the prune because you won’t get
something growing in the in the prune

to save that for the as late as
possible but we didn’t have too too much

end and get greedy while we’re at

kind of points that we
might like we can get you put right

mushroom that’s going to
grow um unless we do something crazy

it very inefficient use of points but
it’s pretty pretty much the only moves
we can make at this
juncture and that’s it not bad though
not too bad so hey I’m ranked
