How do we earn even more money as a gardener obviously we’re all millionaires earning thousands of pounds a week but this video is uh based on my experience and things that I’ve learned a lot of these videos are like that um interview third year now and I’m just
Going to share a couple of little things that um I’ve been doing and you know it’s an easy way of earning a little bit extra every week and you know with me um you know it took a little bit of time I want to sneeze oh
Um you know took a little bit of extra confidence when your Diaries uh you know get in full so you might not necessarily feel you can do this in the beginning you know where you’re scrambling around for jobs you you just setting out you know you want to please everyone that’s what I
Did um you know I was doing favors left right and Center for people there just to you know I had I had the mindset of you know keeping the customer happy and building up that Goodwill which I think isn’t a bad thing in the beginning
Um and I and I do think as long as you’re not too soft and on occasion I was but you soon learn that’ll be too soft I don’t think that’s a bad thing you know it builds a good relationship with your customer they trust you you know and um
To be fair I think as long as you’re turning up that’s what all what people you know the same will want as long as you’re doing a good job you know um but a couple of things I’m going to tell you about so the first thing is something that I used
To do uh definitely me first year so I’ll give you an example so if I was at a customer customer’s garden and it was just a long cut you know uh streaming Moon stream won’t blow um you know simple job you might be in there 20 minutes half an hour max or
Something like that um there might be a few rose bushes there might be a bit of a border that the the customer uh maybe is neglected isn’t necessarily keeping on top of and uh you know there might be a few rules bushes and you give them a little prune
Now that’s the type of thing I used to do and as I say it builds up a good relationship she’ll look out and say oh he’s done a little bit extra might take you 10 minutes again fine now for example you know there was a line I’ve just done she’s got six or
Seven rose bushes maybe about waist tight not massive uh but I’ve been doing the garden now for a couple of years and um you know I’m I’m full now so that makes a difference as I said you know when you’re first starting off you do want to
Please people now I’m full I’m turning work away I can charge to cut those rose bushes you know um there’s probably more six I said there’s maybe eight or nine you know it might be 20 minutes worth of work 25 minutes you know Max um but I’m gonna tell her I’ve done the
Grass I always had a little text message and I’ll say you know next time in two weeks time when I’m back do you want us to prune your rose bushes and um you know I’ll deal with this for probably charge a tenner realistically and you know if she
Doesn’t do it doesn’t go with us you know a fair roof that’s that’s no problem I’m chocolate block 10 is not gonna make much of a difference if I don’t get that but it’s a weird and a little bit more and you know every Garden Morse Gardens can
Potentially have these little odd jobs 10 minute odd jobs and all you have to do is ask the question and um if you want to you know all these these 10 20 quids a week you know if you do it once a week there’s an extra like 40 50 Quid a month
For nothing so that’s that’s just one little uh instance tactic if you like that uh that I’m I’ve been doing and I’ll continue to do it where you know where possible um I’ll try to steer clearly a waiting job so I don’t want to be uh on my hands and
Knees and borders every day occasionally I do you know for regular customers and stuff um if it’s pretty agreed in that like it’s part of the maintenance package but you know a little jobs like prune and rose bushes that’s not a bad little job at all so you know that’s again that’s
Just one instance look now don’t get me wrong there are times um you know every week multiple times that I do little film little you know five minute jobs for people you know I got asked a lot like um or can you just pop that plant in
That pot which takes you two minutes oh you know yesterday I had one say uh can you just empty the bird bath just fill it with it fill it up with a bit water now you’re not going to charge for that so I do think that you know you
Don’t I don’t want people to think that oh I’m horrible I don’t do any any tight little extras or anything I do and I’m sure we all do it’s just when there’s a fine line when those little tiny extras become jobs in this in themselves and I think that’s important to establish the
Second instance is again uh you might not do this when you’re just starting up um maybe do it with confidence issue with price and not quite sure what the charge that was the biggest one for me I was just not sure what to charge and you’d probably err on the side of caution
Um you know 20 25 30 quid job you might charge the 20. you might not push it until you you get used to working day and dealt and then you know you get a better idea of what jobs are worth uh certainly was the case for me
And uh so now whenever I’m quoting as I say I’m falling I’ve been doing this uh with customers uh to film me diary and one off work especially is it so I’ll give you an example so say again just take a normal grass cut um it might be a smarter medium-sized
Lawn you might have in your head 20 to 25 so then you’re asking yourself what do I go with another little tip here if you’re new don’t give a price on the spot unless it’s absolutely you just exactly know that you know exactly what the job
Enters and what the price is going to be I always go and say you’ll hear it from us probably later on today or tomorrow give yourself a bit thinking time that was that was like a game changer for me um so yeah so these 20 25 quid ones what do
You go with well once upon a time I’d have gone with the 20. to get another customer to get the diary full and again that’s fine um when you’re building your Roundup building your customer base but there’s no harm in doing the 25 and that’s what
I do now those sort of extra fives Tenors for the regular maintenance work uh one-off stuff it might be you might have sort of I don’t know a bigger job 120 so maybe 150 in your head now I’m charging that 150 you know and you get more money obviously doing it that way
Um over the course of a month you know you could be earning like adding a decent little amount on your your monthly total there uh these sort of what it might be more prevalent with is the larger long cut so I mean my biggest
Long cut is 60 quid now I’ve got a 50 Quid one and then obviously most of them are around the 30 pound Mark um put that 60 quid one initially I was I was going in there thinking probably not 45 I was thinking 50 60. I thought I’m going to charge the 60
Bloody hard work and uh they were fine that’s that’s the thing you’ll find people are fine with it you know you get the odd ones they would twist you say oh my oh God it’s always the old Garden my old Garden I used to charge 10 pound for the hour
So many things wrong with that but there we are so that’s a different video and I’ve done videos so if you want to check out the channel you know feel free there’s loads of videos like that going into pricing and then while I’ve heard stories and stuff
Um but yeah anytime this is my old Gardener used to do blah blah blah have a little bit of caution in your mind you know it might be genuine like that you know the old Gardener might have been um crap but a lot of the time it’s the
Customer either being fussy or not wanting to peel you know but anyway I’m waffling again I hope you found this video interesting um say hello in the comments uh let us know your little tips and tricks as well and I’ll say the next one guys cheers bye

Problem is mate The amount of little scammers about! Gives us all a Bad name!
Same in The Arb game mate 2 many unqualified numptys!
It's a Tricky time to say the least. ATB lad 👍
Another good video Adam! I'm two months into my garden maintenance buisness journey, work's picking up fast! Thanks for the advice and tips, i enjoy your videos
Adam great to hear about your growth as a self employed gardener and your sticking to your boundaries. I am 17 years self employed fully booked and filtering out customers that do not suit my programme✌️

Right to say be careful about little “extras”. I’d be more than happy to go the extra mile for some good, friendly & appreciative customers. Others would take a mile if you offered them an inch! They’re usually the types who undervalue what you do & are clueless about your business costs…or couldn’t care less. It’s a case of judgement…which (hopefully) comes with experience.
Nice video. Mate, 💚

Top video mate some good advice for beginners starting out 🙌🏼
Another great video mate.
Thanks for the video Adam, I'm just over half way into my first year full time and your advice is always very helpful.
You could charge for plants you’ve sown yourself or for dahlias that need splitting, rooted cuttings that are easy to strike, strawberry runners are simple too
Some good advice there.. It is a horrid feeling when you are asked for a price give what you think the customer will pay and they immediately smile and say 'that's fine!'.. Grrrr
I started my journey last May as a self employed gardener and the business grew well, this year I placed two adverts in local Facebook groups in early March and the response was so high that I am almost full with only three spaces left now for regular jobs. Certainly wont need to advertise again and have also easily managed to increase my prices.
Thanks for the advice mate! Is it better to use an invoice app or just paper booklet? The paper side of things as an absolute weakness for me 🙈
Thanks to you and a few others and your combined inspiration I've started my own YouTube channel today 🙏.
