Hey ya’ll, I’m Jess from Roots & Refuge Farm
Welcome to a place that feels like home. A small farm with a big family. We hope you’ll pull up a chair, grab some coffee and visit awhile.
There was a time that all I wanted in the world was a little farm where I could raise my family and grow our food. Now, that is exactly what exists outside my door. In watching it unfold, a new dream was formed in my heart – to share this beautiful life with others and teach them the lessons we’ve learned along the way. Welcome to our journey, friend. I am so glad you’re here.

Goat cheese and spinach lasagna
Us weekday folks are known for Sunday evening blues – maybe that would be a good time for PREMIER!
🎉❤ I could start to look forward to Sunday nights more!! ❤🎉
i noticed when wearing a mask during covid my allergies were much more milder just an idea feel better
stinging nettle infusions to the rescue for your allergies and sinus woes! 😊
GARDEN TOURS, yes, please!
I make a big (depending on how my spinach does) batch of this, portion it, and freeze it. DELICIOUS! https://youtu.be/S28YY62gz-0?si=o4OAKJyGvXIkHAD7
Love the idea of garden tours on the weekend (or friday night:))You are three hours ahead of us on the west coast and i think you like to do tours in the morning or early evening when it cools down. I may not make early mornings (probably not before 10am Carolina time) but would definitely watch later if that is the case. Wish i had a good spinach and artichoke recipe but i don't. Happy Easter!
Do you eat local honey? If's full of your local pollen to help build resistance. I love the idea of the garden tour! You grow so many things that I've never attempted.
Jess, have you ever heard of taking Butterbur for allergies? My daughter and I have severe allergies to pollen, dust mites and more. We've been taking Butterbur capsules for years which have taken care of our extreme seasonal allergies almost completely. No more seasonal "illnesses" after being bombarded with pollen. It has pretty much no contraindications so almost everyone can take it, plus there's no side effects either. Hope you feel better very soon. Thank you for another wonderful video, especially when you feel pukey.
I dehydrated greens, spinach, powdered it and sprinkle it on and on tons of things. Garden tours. Once a month. Maybe do two short tours and release together? or you could do little snippets over the month? I don't know. That's your expertise. I just think you need to be good to your demands and family needs first. Don't overwhelm yourself when you are in the high demand time of year and house building. I love what you do now and being able to "visit" most days. To connect. Th I k of your needs first!..Happy Easter. 🐦💛🐸💚🐸😎
Beautiful Artie, I'm looking forward to growing an Artichoke. We are getting our Freeze Dryer this next week, I can hardly wait.
Any day you want to do garden tours, I am on board!! Just got a copy of Samin Nostrats cookbook, I will be trying a number of recipes. I am amazed that she can take you around the world with just beets & goat cheese, a favorite combination of mine. Happy Easter!
My weed is dewberries, I do love em for the few weeks they’re food, but they’re pokey!
Love the idea of garden tours and chats…. Weekends would be great but do what is best for you.
Jess, I am so excited about my potato harvest this year! My seed potatoes emerged from the soil in 9 days!!!
Seeing you milk goats makes me think of our old days of having goats…. we didnt pull (on hearing it would ruin goats utters)when we milked we squeeze top to bottom. Thought it might interest you
Weekends work best for me. But you do what you need to for sanity. I can watch you anytime. Happy Easter!
Jess, I would love garden tours with as many details as possible. You are the reason I jumped off 3 years ago and started quite a bit of my plants from seed. You told me I could do it. And I did at age 76. Thank you. He is risen, indeed!
The people who make rude comments about you making good business decisions for your farm are obviously City People, and the only animals they have known are pets. They don't grasp the concept of running a farm! Raising animals for meat! They have no idea where their food comes from. I feel bad for them. Hugs, Zanna
I love garden tours! I always watch them in the evening after dinner when the dishes are washed, I have time to sit and relax.
Yeah Hope!
Early Saturday mornings would be great, that way we can all get inspiration and head out to our own gardens.
Jess, just passing on what the young lady who cuts my hair shared last week. Her son suffered horribly with allergies from pollen. He had breathing issues that required going to the ER. She started giving him honey from local hives, who were feasting on the pollen in her area. After a month, his allergy response decreased, and he didn't have to go to the ER once in a year.
I think it makes sense, to desensitize your body with the pollens you are having problem with. Just a thought.
looking forward to the tours.
Looks like she is living up to her name…Hope❤
I need a good way to use up turnips.
Hi Jess, completely random but I listened to 'The Secret Garden' audiobook recently and I believe you would enjoy it.
youtube link to the book: https://youtu.be/Heo96fQPtc0?si=ZHW1rUstyETmcodV
Thanks for all you do, you were an instrumental part of our family changing the way we live.. from first time backyard gardeners in 2020, to our own 10 acre homestead in the boreal forest of northern Canada. A dormant desire for a different life was there all along, you helped to awake it and guided us along the way.
.. as I write this I contemplate the strange concept of youtube fame… I am quite aware that you don't know me, but, like so many of your followers, my heart seems to regard you as a friend. So, from a friend in northern Canada that you will most likely never meet (traveling and homesteading is not really that compatible) I thank you and cheer you on. Your family's journey is an inspiration and your openheartedness soothing to the soul.
Jess have you ever covered how to maintain your green stalks with the strawberries? I am going to plant mine with berries this year but do I just leave them year around? Do I need to start fresh with new plants every year? I could sure use some help and I bet others could use it also. Our year around temps are very different than yours but some things could be the same maybe
Hi Jess,
This comment not necessarily related to this video but have just realized watching you milk that goats only have two teats. Down here in NZ have milked a lot of cows so assumed that goats would have the same lol
garden tour in the evening would be wonderful, I am not an early riser even though I live on a farm!
So hard to believe I've been watching you so long. I remember when you hit 1,000 viewers! You caught my attention when you said "I bless you" @ the end of your blog.
Still love following you. My hubby Michael calls you my cousin, lol…because you're like family. 😂

Davids wife) this has been the worst allergy season this year for me.. I do understand..
