I'm new to the cactus world, and recently found a great deal on an Althea pup. I really want it to survive, and I have questions about grafting onto rootstock. 1) Would you slice it vertically from top to bottom and slab graft it? 2) Would you slice it horizontally in the middle, as well as across the very bottom, to have a tip graft and a bottom graft? 3) Would you just take a slice off of the bottom and graft the whole pup? As I have never grafted before I'm wondering about the pros and cons of each of these. I'm also wondering if it would just root on its own if I didn't graft it.

Alright bro! This thing will definitely grow on its own BUT that’s going to take forever. If this is your first time I would highly recommend doing a tip graft and a butt graft. These will be the most forgiving. I can not stress this enough. You need GOOD rootstock for this. That pup is a banger (from James?) and it deserves good stock + the better your stock the better your shot at getting it to take. I’ll link a couple videos of some masters at work grafting. Do what they do. Then don’t touch it. Shit don’t even look at it. It’ll take. It’s all about healthy big ass root stock, lots of pressure, using a clean knife and then leaving it the hell alone.
