We are planning what to grow in 2024 in our garden and greenhouse. Our short growing season in Finland brings some challenges and limitations. What vegetables, herbs, fruits etc. will make it? We don’t know but our approach is to make the trials and errors and try to learn from them.
This video is for #gardeners who want to grow more than just potatoes in a short growing season. we’ll share my plans for my 2024 #beginnergardening, including the #vegetables and #herbs we’ll be growing, our #croprotation experiment, and the lessons I learned from last year. Join me as I get my garden ready for the 2024 growing season! Our garden is in Central Finland and we truly have a #shortseason.
P.S. Stay tuned for more adventures at End of the Grid! We’ll be exploring all sorts of ways to live a more sustainable and independent life, even with limited resources.

[Music] hi and welcome back to our Channel my name is Silja and today I’m going to go through the plans that we have for garden next summer. First I’m going to show you the things we grew
Last year maybe something about what we learned. The thing is in here the winter lasts so long that we can’t put the uh seeds to ground before June because it’s it’s going to be too cold and
If this thing says in here you need to start growing this in April for us it really means we need to start growing it in [Music] March. This is my gardening book where I have all the
Plans and I try to write down the things we have planted to the garden and what went well and what did not . This is the drawing what we did for last year and last year we had beans corn carrot uh and
Potatoes in our garden and our Greenhouse that was not that difficult and in our Greenhouse we did have tomatoes and zucchini yeah um well it did good the tomatoes kind of did good uh chilies did
Not make it carrot we have this tiny tiny potato is always good but that is not something that we like we are super inspired to grow. We don’t… Right now we don’t have any place to store the
Veggies for the winter so we basically want to grow vegetables that we can eat fresh [Music] So what we tried last last year for the first time is to rotate the place where we grow these
Veggies. The idea is that the same veggie won’t grow in that place more than one year and it goes in a 4year turn and every year idea is to grow there a little bit different veggies that
Uh ultimately make the uh soil little bit better. So in every year there would be uh a good crop, so potatoes don’t need that much for the soil that’s why that is the only thing that grows in here [Music]
And for this year we have have thought that we want to try grow such uh vegetables that we actually use a lot in this house so turnip spinach or one last try for a carrot this never grow super good we would actually want to try again for onion
And garlic corn palster p p p what is this parsnip beetroot some cabbages maybe also herbs uh like timjam um oregano these are the must this year we want to try our smaller Terrace could it be a good place to uh like have more of these different herbs
So it’s kind of a kitchen Garden quite near . So quite a big goals let’s see how we do!
