Please accept my apologies for the crime of hashtag misappropriation in my previous post. Thanks to those who trust my intentions and especially to @corypaul2 for taking the time to explain things to me. I truly meant no disrespect.

Let me express my ideas in plain English: the way a plant looks is a direct result of its growing conditions. Your home will rarely provide the same conditions as a nursery and nature’s mandate is survival, not human aesthetic standards. Every plant grown in a nursery will adjust to its new living conditions by shedding its oldest leaves – a trade off for survival. The degree to which this adjustment results in an “unsightly” plant varies by plant and depends on the magnitude of difference between the nursery conditions and your home (mostly the light, temperature, and soil nutrients)…and of course, on how you care for it. You’ll enjoy plant parenthood much more if you deepen your appreciation for how plants work, not just how they look
.
And now for #FLFFriday – you wish to know how to get that branched look? You must cut the stem. It is at this point where there is a chance for multiple new growth points. You’ll have a better chance if you can provide greenhouse-like conditions. It is still possible to get branching if growing in a home environment but it will be an exercise in patience.
