Basically the title.
I bought this calathea kind of on a whim and I did zero research other than to ensure it was cat-friendly, definitely on the verge of regretting that decision. It’s been about a week and it is just progressively getting unhappier and I don’t what I can/should do.
I repotted it into something bigger as soon as I brought it home and added new soil. I’ve been making sure to keep it watered and I’m spraying the leaves with water as well but some of the leaves are so dry and almost shriveled and some of the others are starting to get dry edges now. I don’t have it in direct sunlight, but I am putting it in the kitchen when I cook in the hopes the heat will help. I’ve thought about putting it in the bathroom for now but we use our basement shower and it’s cold down there if you’re not actively showering so I don’t know if that would actually help
Is it just stressed from a new environment? Should I just keep doing what I’m doing and hope it perks up? Also not sure if I should cut off the super dry leaves?
I clearly have no idea what I’m doing and I will definitely never buy a plant on a whim again 🙄

Wait for more responses bc I don’t know how to care for caltheas, but my best advice is to not change it’s environment too much especially if it’s in shock, unless you’re really doing something wrong. To me it sounds like you’re doing okay but ofc wait for more responses
I’ve had a calethea and when I watered it with tap water it was fine for a few months but all of a sudden it started turning brown, and after I think I was suppose to water it with distilled water. It was too late and it died, don’t water it every so often cuz it will rot. the rhizomes ,the thing that looks like potatoes, store up water for the plant👍🥔
With everything you said, it sounds like the plant might be in shock! You repotted (messed with the roots presumably) and you keep moving it to different places.
Pick one place, high humidity (pebble tray or humidifier if not a humid location), place it somewhere with bright indirect light and just let it be!
It will get worse before it gets better, but as long as the roots are good, it has a chance!
the secret to almost all plants is:you buy the plant, you leave it in the right spot, you water it when its time and you do nothing more.if you start to messing around, you lost the game!
Yes, water it
Humidity. Constant humidity. Water when the top of the soil feels dry with your fingers. No tap water. Anything but that. If all leaves die, cut back to soil. It will regrow.
Stop misting the leaves. It doesn’t do anything beneficial.
Water with distilled water and leave the plant alone.
