Don’t miss out on transforming your garden into a thriving paradise! 🌿 #Gardening #RaisedBed #Vegogarden #vegogarden #MyVegoGardenSpring #Vego2024Spring

Good morning my community sun’s coming up Moon’s going down I think we’re supposed to get a full moon tonight it’s a little brisk this morning it’s about 40 44 45 good old cup of coffee this morning so going to be busy today we’re going to be putting together um a vgo garden I’ve

Seen some other channels do these uh videos so we’re going to give it a try too I think we got two separate ones and my grandson is here and so he’s going to help Grandpa put those together this morning and we’re going to see where we’re going to put them we’re going to

Talk about how we’re going to fill them and then and what we’re going to fill them with and then we’re going to talk about what we’re going to plant them so it is going to be a beautiful day today we are looking at around 78 degrees here

In North Texas on February the 24th I think so 24th my goodness so we do look like next week we’re going to get a little cool it doesn’t look like it’s going to get as cool as they thought we were going to get so so far we’re in the clear um our

Tomato plants are doing great um eager to get things going I bet you are too so it’s been a while since I’ve been on the back acre um because it’s been raining and it’s very very muddy but I want to check out the soil back here

Because it’s about time uh for Greg to get out here and start teing so that we can see what we’re working with and start planning what we’re going to plant back here so he planted the oats you may remember last summer and they started coming up around the pumpkins as a cover

Crop we we wanted to uh get this soil worked up a little bit get some micro Raza fungi in there and some good bacteria so that whenever we planted this spring we would be um in good shape as far as soil goes so let’s see oh yeah oh

Yeah so y’all may remember look at that y’all may remember how this looked last year it was nothing but a bunch of big clads of dirt and now it’s looking like some really good workable soil for what we’re going to plant back here I can’t wait I can’t wait I can’t

Wait we’re really ramping things up this year guys um my goodness uh grocery bills are just out of this world and so uh we’re ramping things up to can and to uh feed us um and to also share with our neighbors and um support the farm and

Support our community so this back acre I think is going to come in handy for a lot of great vegetables see my friends if I didn’t know any better I’d tell you that we are at the end of March not at the end of February this could be very

Concerning got some pretty little daffodils that I planted a couple of years ago and they hadn’t come up yet until this year so let’s get down to business now guys we have this extra tall 10in one modular raised bed by vgo Garden 10 different configurations 20-year lifespan that’ll

Be that’ll Outlast me 32 in high 100% recyclable material and it takes about an hour to assemble so uh we’re really excited to see how this does because we are always looking for a way to grow our food and you know we love to do raised bed gardening container gardening so

This is going to be a fantastic addition to our uh little farm here here are all the different ways you can make this one here’s how it’s packaged up looks like all the hardware is the same size guys so you don’t have to be sorting through a bunch yeah we guys I

See where my sweet potatoes are going to come from this year yes okay so there was two different types of Fasteners guys the tops of these have the little buttons and then we have stabilizing bars this thing is absolutely huge how long is it honey

It’s uh I think 9 and2 9 and 1/2 ft two by and this this ain’t 3 ft tall yeah and then 3 ft tall 2 and 1/2 by 3 ft tall man this is going to give us a load of sweet potatoes so guys this is it you can see

It is huge and it takes 2.5 square yards of soil guys so we’ll have to bring some in good thing about it is is Greg will be able to load it with his tractor but this is the size we chose cuz we really wanted something for the

Sweet potatoes we wanted it to be deep and long long had to put that chair in there so I could get out believe it or not yeah we like we like I don’t think for the money you can really go wrong with this if you were to try to build

Some of the wooden ones like we did you’re probably going to spend in excess of what the cost of this is and uh it’s very very sturdy very sturdy yeah so we’ll lay some weed cloth down in the bottom and then we’ll fill it up

With dirt and then when it’s time we are going to put our sweet potato slips in here and I bet we get a heaping load of them guys and for those of you that um can’t bend over cuz Greg and are getting like that really quick um this would be

A fantastic bed to put in your backyard um you know get somebody to fill it for you and you can put your Tomatoes your peppers your herbs you could grow anything in this vgo Garden guys I’m I’m really impressed with it we have another one that we’re going to put

Up that is um a little bit shorter I think it’s 2 feet tall so when we do that one we will show you that and we’re going to line that up right here next to this one so we’ll have it right in front of the small um High tunnel but yeah

We’re very impressed we’re impressed with quality we’re impressed with the price we’re impressed with um how easy it was to put together it had everything thing um that you needed and um the only thing I disagree with is that it takes about 50 minutes I’d say it took us probably combined

About two two and a half hours now that’s us if somebody’s younger than us it might not take as long but that’s where we’re at right now guys so thank you for watching um I’m going to put the link down below and you can go check these out and whenever we

Get that second one put up we’ll put it right there and I’ll do um another short video on it and show you cuz now we are getting really super excited about spring planting love you all see you soon

  1. With an early spring prediction I planted bush Kentucky wonder beans yesterday, 02-24-24. Never have I planted green beans this early in central Mississippi. Here’s hoping they germinate and thrive.

  2. Blessed Sunday to you and Hubby and Grand Son. Its a Windy 79 degrees here in Cameron , Tx. Just in from trying to dress up my Small Orchard, Will plant next month , after the plant sale here . We have been both Ill and No energy for a while. Line My Dad use to say , " Better late than Never, but its best to be Better , never Late… Smile. 3. Hello from southeast Texas. I am about to map out my garden. I know I am late but I too have been sick.
    Have a blessed day 😊❤

  4. That looks like a rough proposition on digging out sweet potatoes in something that deep. I cant bend much either. I found grow bags are easier. Just flip them over and pull the potatoes out. But i am only 5' tall so I am vertically challenged. Lol.

  5. Enjoyed the vid. Thanks for sharing the info on the raised planter bed. I've been looking at the shorter beds around 24". You mentioned an early spring prediction, does that mean an unsually hot summer?

  6. You could put 18" of brush on the bottom of the container and really reduce the amount of soil required. A few years from now it will be fully composted.
But the smart money says that you knew all that and you just didn't go into details.

  7. Great content as usual. I am a hop, skip and a jump from y'all (Azle, TX). I have started using the Vego raised beds and I love them especially if they actually last 20+ years. Bye Bye to the wooden raised beds.😁

  8. Just a suggestion I'd also put some chicken wire on the bottom keep critters from coming in from the bottom I don't know if you have those problems where you live but I would have them where I live in Oklahoma God bless

  9. Jill, before you plant that out, something to think about that I've learned the hard way. (Take it or leave it as you feel led.) I have a deep compost bin that is soft sided, but it is very hard to shovel out of, because you don't want to damage the sides. There's just no good fulcrum point, and you can't really get a foot on the edge of the shovel or pitchfork. I' wondering if you might have the same difficulty when you go to dig the sweet potatoes out of that bed. Just a thought…it may not apply. Wishing you well!

  10. I've seen others fill the bottom with old, rotten logs and / or branches. It will eventually end up as soil, but saves the initial cost of purchased soil. As it turns to soil each year, new compost can be added.

  11. They look great. I always seem to experience iron-deficiency b/c I think my high-organic tall-raised-beds developed a high PH.
With the idea that commercial operations only target 10 inches of soil before cost outperforms growth… I don't know exactly how I want to combat the PH blocking the iron but I was thinking to line the bed with a pond-liner with a deep sump to monitor & adjust the basin PH to allow the plants to get all the food they need. I was going to run air-line(PVC) & use an air-lift pump to both aerate the sump & move water around, air-pumps also allow me to avoid having 120v power ran through the yard as an additional safety hazard. I'd probably build the deep-sump out of a new 12-inch diameter plastic culvert pipe b/c they are often used as risers so companies make lids & safety-lids… Maybe you can find a neighbor who needs a new plastic culvert for you to get a 50-70% discount on every usable ft left to purchase, as most counties set/install homeowner culverts for free if you purchase the concrete-sand that they must dump on it. The deeper the sump the higher the air-lift-pump can lift so I was even thinking to do a 3-4ft 18-inch diameter sump where the water stays cool to feed the plants all day long.

  12. I have 2 beds like that, but they are only pike 18" high and 5 foot long (approximately).. I have one that my husband hasn't put together, yet. I am doing container gardening and raised beds. I personally haven't had time like I thought I would. Lol.

  13. I might have to get one of those VEGO beds. I’ve got a coupon for $30 off. Just need to figure out where to put it.

  14. Hi Jill, looks great! I watch The Gardening Channel with James Prigioni. He fills the bottom with logs etc. He is making the switch. Those metal beds are getting popular. Even Job Lots here sells them for a reasonable price. ❤😊👍 We won't see buds or daffodils up here until April.

  15. Hey Jill! We bought a couple of these last year. We put cardboard in the bottom, then some logs and twigs, then the soil. Helped not have to bring in so much soil and will help keep weeds out. Blessings!

  16. Just found your channel and subscribed. While my garden is in my living room apartment, I am about to move and designing a garden. This was a timely video for me ❤. Thank you!

  17. I have 2 Vego beds that I used last year. They are great. Mine are the 17” 6in1. I like the 17” because I have a garden tractor seat that is perfect so I can sit while working. I’m buying 2 more this year. I’m slowly going to replace my wooden raised beds as they need to be replaced. The Vegos will be much cheaper than wood if they really last the full 20 years. My husband thinks they will hold up based on this first year. I’m not sure about using them for sweet potatoes but will be interested in how it works out for you.
