Hey y’all welcome back if you’re new here my name is Haley and this is a channel where I share content related to All Things um going on around the home so things like homeschooling homemaking and then today we’re going to be talking about Gardening so before I get into sharing the different seed varieties and things like that that I’m going to be planting this year I’m just going to quickly tell you about my uh gardening history so I am not a Master Gardener by any means I’m still very much um experimenting
With different ways to grow things learning about the things that I need to plant large quantities of different ways to preserve those food items just all of it so now we are approaching Springtime and it is my first year out here at our new property that I’m going to be
Planting a springtime Garden so the primary place that I will be planting is in 6 4×8 raised beds real quick before I start showing you the seeds that I have selected for this year I want to mention this book The Family Garden plan by Melissa K Norris
She’s here on YouTube if you’ve never heard of her she knows so much about growing um large quantities of food for an entire year that’s kind of what this book here is based around this is what I’m going to be using to determine approximately how many of each type of
Plant I want to plant for the things that I want to grow large quantities of so it has some helpful charts in here it goes over how to set up your garden space caring for your garden different ways to preserve your Harvest when to harvest the vegetables so just a whole
Lot of information in this book I’ll link it down below I ordered it off of Amazon and um yeah just a whole lot of information in one place and now we can start talking about what I’m going to plant in those beds this year I want to be more intentional about growing things
That I know my family is going going to eat a lot of and then just um grow a couple of the plants of things that I know that we prefer to have just for fresh eating so the things that I know I want to grow large amounts of are things
Like potatoes um tomatoes green beans one of the raised beds it’s uh like I mentioned 4 by8 it is going to be devoted solely to potatoes and then I also want to try to grow uh quite a few tomatoes that I can use to preserve I’m
Not trying to do like a whole year worth of tomato products or anything like that but I would be really excited if I could just um you know make up a batch of salsa for the year or something like that I’m not trying to do salsa and tomato sauce and crushed tomatoes and
All of those things um just maybe one of our tomato based products is really my goal at this point these are the different tomato varieties that I plan on growing this year all three of these on the top row here are a large tomato um even the heirloom rainbow mix is is
Supposed to be um it says that it produces large meaty flavorful tomatoes and a variety of color so all three of these varieties are going to be larger the red Brandy Wine are really big this ruers this is a uh it says four to 6 o fruits so not
Quite as large but still a larger tomato than like your little cherry tomatoes and things like that I’ve actually tried to grow these before and I had some issues with Blossom rot so I’m gonna try them again this year and see how they hold up and then down here we have some
Tato seeds and then some cherry tomatoes So the plan is probably to do a couple cherry tomato plants just for fresh snacking and things like that for myself and my middle sun and then um these here on the top row I’m not 100% sure how many each I’m going to do maybe maybe
Four two and two we’ll see we’ll see and then probably just a couple of the uh Tomos as well and the last thing that I mentioned that I want to grow quite a bit of are green beans I think that green beans are easy to preserve I can just put them in the
Freezer I don’t have to pressure can them or anything like that so I have three different types of uh beans here this over here these are two packs of asparagus beans these are so fun to grow I grew them a couple years ago they get between 12 and 18 in each and I
Really love that these can be trellised so I’m planning on doing some like Arch style trellises in between my beds and I’m going to plant I don’t know somewhere between 8 10 I’m not I’m not 100% sure yet um just just depends on how the beds lay out and
How much space I have but I want to plant a bunch of these um for fresh eating as well as preserving as the season goes on and then these two over here these are some purple uh green beans so purple beans and then this is another variety here called provider beans both of
These varieties are a um they grow on a bush versus being able to be trellised so I’m going to grow several of these as well probably somewhere between uh eight and 10 plants of each again are the different pepper varieties that I’m planning to grow so I have these Peppers
Here from survival garden seeds um they were kind enough to send me a couple of their variety packs so they sent me their Homesteader pack and their home Garden pack that comes with just an assortment of different seeds they sent that to me last year so that I could do
A review of their product on my blog which is up I can link it down below if you’re interested in it but but this is really the first year that I’m going to be planting a whole lot of their seeds last year I just experimented in my um containers if you’re unfamiliar with
Survival garden seeds you can purchase packs of seeds from them that are all aoom varieties and they come in like you can purchase individual seed packs too but they have a homesteader set a home Gardener set and you get like 50 seed packs with the homesteaders and 30 with
The home gardeners I believe anyways you get a whole lot of different variety of seeds in there it’s a fun way to try out different seed varieties for a really decent priced I have this black beauty bell pepper and then I have this California Wonder red bell pepper I also
Have some pepperon chinis that I want to grow I would love to be able to pickle some of those um I like to use them to make like the Mississippi pot roast so I would love to get some jars of these pickled so probably going to do three of
Those plants or so um Cayenne I’m just going to be wanting one plant of the cayenne peppers but the jalapeno peppers have two different varieties here again as well these are some that I’ve grown before and then these are from survival garden seeds I’ll be growing some of
Each one of these just to see which one works better and I do want to put up quite a few jalapenos this coming year I want to pickle them we eat pickled jalapenos on a lot of our uh dishes especially like our Mexican dishes okay next I have a couple different varieties
Of cucumbers I’m going to be planting I’ve planted these pickle Bush cucumbers before and they did excellent they are a small space saving plant so I really liked having these in my raised beds I want to try these for like fresh eating and then obviously the pickle Bush for
Pickling okay so I do have several other things that I’m planning to grow this year and I’ll show you what those are right now these are things that I plan on growing only a couple plants each of um not wanting to have a ton of this to
Put up for long-term storage or anything like that at this point so that consist of things like these different melons that I want to grow so we have a watermelon here and then we have a cantaloupe these are not going to go in my raised beds these will be going in
Ground and we’ll probably do I don’t even know how many Vines each because we don’t really have a limit to the amount of space over there I really kind of just want to try to put the seeds out and see how many we can get I know that
Uh we can easily give away an abundance of watermelons and cantaloupes and they’ll be well received my church actually also does a free farmers market in the uh summer time so any overabundance that I have of things like this I can always bring to the Farmers
Market market and give them away to some people in our community something else that I want to grow and I may end up growing more of these than I initially said um just because it does so well in the humid Texas heat is okra so I love okra for a
Pickling um I like to fry it and it is just so so resilient I I’ve always been so impressed at how much neglect an okra plant will take and this is supposed to be a spineless okra if you’ve ever picked fresh okra then you know they are
Very Pokey and uh yeah this is supposed to be a spineless variety so I’m excited to try this out this year I also have a couple different zucchini varieties I’m thinking I’ll probably do two to three plants each of these zucchini varieties this is called a black
Beauty and then this is called a gray zucchini I’m excited to try this I’ve never um never tried it but it says that it is favored by gardeners in hot Aid climates due to its heat loving nature and since most of our summer days are um pushing a
Heat index of you know 110 and plus I’m hoping that it grows well here I’m not going to be planting any yellow summer squash I do love fried yellow squash I love sauteed squash um I just like yellow squash but my grandpa always plants so much yellow squash he always
Supplies our family with tons of fresh vegetables and um I know that’s one thing that I will be able to have a lot of from him but I do want to try to grow some of these butternut squash I love roasted butternut squash so hoping that I can grow a few Vines of
These these will probably also actually go in ground and not in my raised beds just because they can um they get pretty large the plants do and something else that I want to try and grow this year is this Black Beauty eggplant it says that it is a reliable producer I’ve never
Grown eggplant I did purchase a already established eggplant um start a couple years ago from a local noser and I killed it so I’m wanting to try and grow a couple of my own so this is the variety that we’re going to be going with from survival Garden seeds um like
I said probably just do a couple of those also want to try and grow some different herbs this year so I have things like this Mammoth basil here and then some parsley and cilantro so these are all herbs that I know that we will use frequently so those are the three that
I’m going to start with this year I want to to get this lettuce this is just some different baby lettuce I want to do a container of this just to have some fresh greens for salads and um then also I would like to get some carrots put
Into my raised beds here soon my estimated last fraw state is like the first week in March so it’s quickly approaching really probably should have already had some of these seeds started but things have been kind of busy around here the last month so just now get into
That but um I want to try to get some carrots and lettuce and things that prefer cooler weather I want to go ahead and get those started just to see if I can Harvest some carrots um before the weather really gets too hot for carrots
And then the last thing I have here are just some different um flowers that I want to try to grow so I have this pollinator mix that came in my seed packs from survival garden seeds so it says it is a mixture that will Delight the local bee population and invite them
To your garden so going to just kind of scatter some of these about I also have these Mammoth sunflowers we have grown from this seed pack before which is why it has dirt on it um we want to grow some more of these sunflowers are beautiful to look at and
Those get huge and then I also have a couple of flowers and herbs that are to be used for medicinal purposes I would love to have a medicinal herb garden one day and just learn more about that in general so we’re going to go ahead and
Plant some seeds for it this year I just have a couple seed packs here and then I also have eona I think I have fever few seeds somewhere as well I’m almost positive that I do so probably those three things I’m going to try to get growing this
Year so that is everything that I’m planning to grow this upcoming year in our garden like I mentioned most of this will be going in the raised bed area that I have it’s still under construction um the beds are built and they’re laid out but I still have to get
Um all the soil and everything like that put in there and we want to put a fence up around it to try to keep my goats out and then some of the things that grow on really big Vines like the butternut squash and the Watermelons and the cantaloupe we probably will be growing
Those in ground since they would take up the majority of one bed I learned that the hard way whenever I planted pumpkins in my raised beds I planted way too many pumpkins in there and they were taking over they were growing up the fence that was around it and the entire ground was
Covered in pumpkin Vines so not wanting to make that mistake again I want to give them a little more space to grow out and hopefully produce more hopefully I can take you guys along with me this next gardening season and just show you what’s growing well um do some Harvest
Videos and then some preservation videos cook with me videos all of those types of things regarding what I’m able to grow in my garden assuming that I am able to grow things in my garden this year so hopefully I will be able to get some content like that up as well but
Thank you guys for watching and I will see y’all in the next video

Love your plans! I might try watermelons this year… haven't decided… never grown them before! I'm in KY in 7a.
I think you’ve got a great variety of seeds there and I hope they produce a lot for you !! I am in Southern Maryland and we used to be Zone 7a but , apparently due to climate change, we are now considered Zone 8a !! I hope to get a small garden going , last year I was able to because my husband had just had spinal surgery in May and we have 6 children, whom I am homeschool as well , so I didn’t plant a garden last year , but excited to start for this year!! Other than a veggie garden , I would love to have a medicinal garden and a tea garden 🪴 Congratulations on your little Blessing and I am so glad you returned to you tube !!
