How can I tell between male and female asparagus seedlings? I have a patch of asparagus, but most of the plants are females, from seed company roots stock, females do not produce the nice thick stalks that the male planets do.
I started mine about a year ago, and they grew a forest of beautiful fronds over the summer. I used the soil block method, and they produced fantastic roots. I went with Erasmus, but have been thinking of starting a patch of an OP variety if I can clear some space.
I have a lot of volunteers coming up around my asparagus bed. They spread easily and grow right up through my wood chips.
