Latest peace lily bloom on the way: this plant has been a long-time friend – got it for Christmas in 2013 as a small 6″ specimen and now, 6 years later, it is in a 12″ nursery pot.

2️⃣ I purposely haven’t cleaned up these leaves so you can see that a few yellowing leaves and browned tips are within acceptable parameters. Consider this: if I didn’t show you this photo and you looked only at photo 1️⃣, you’d probably say this plant is “doing well”. When I tell you how long I’ve had it and how it has moved up in pot size, now you’re probably thinking it’s “doing VERY well” – and the truth is IT IS!
.
The perspective that visual perfection is the ultimate goal of houseplant ownership will only serve to deter people from trying. Nice things are nice, but plants offer two more categories of things to enjoy: the joy of witnessing plant biology in your own living room and the joy of a relationship – like I’ve had with this peace lily.
