Gardening in California is such a great place to grow a garden because we have such amazing climates especially if you are in zone 9 we are a yearound growing zone and there’s always something that we can be growing but the thing with January is that it’s sort of a slow

Month it’s our coldest month of the year typically and so things kind of slow down but that doesn’t mean there isn’t things we can be growing right now so I wanted to share some really easy crops that you can plant right now because in January I like to start preparing my

Garden for the upcoming spring season I like to plan and I kind of like to just take it easy but I still like to take advantage of our growing zone and plant things during each month when they can still grow so my first very easy crop that I would consider planting right now

Is lettuce lettuce is always a great cool season crop because it thrives in the cooler temperatures and you can continue harvesting it and it will just keep coming back it’s not uh one Harvest and you’re done you can just keep keep clipping away at it and it will keep

Growing so definitely consider planting lettuce right now the second really great thing to plant right now is radishes there’s all sorts of radishes one of my favorite kinds of radishes is a daon radish dacons are really long white radishes and they’re actually really great for your soil if you have

Any soil that needs to kind of get broken up and you want some nutrients to go back into that soil daon radishes are really great for doing that but they also taste really good so that’s a really great type of radish or you can just grow regular red cherry Bell

Radishes they grow really super fast and so you’re going to get a harvest almost at no time sometimes as early as 25 days depending on when the radishes Sprout and germinate and then grow but they can be harvested really quickly which is pretty cool and then the third really

Easy thing to grow right now is spinach spinach is another leafy green sort of like lettuce and you can just continue clipping away at it and it will keep on growing so consider spinach lettuce and radishes those are all great in a salad so that’s why I put those three together

Of course there are so many more crops that you can grow right now and I talk about all of the cool season crops and warm season crops that you can grow all throughout the year in my complete zone 9 Gardening Guide and that will be linked in the description so if you

Would like to check that out it’s a great guide that will help you get ready for the spring season but it will also give you ideas of things that you can still be planting right now in January but as you continue through this month I encourage you to just start planning out

What you want to do in the spring gardening season that’s going to be here before we know it but right now is a really good time to start planning for all the projects you want to do all the plants you want to plant um before long you’re going to have to start getting

Seedlings started to transplant I really only recommend transplanting your tomatoes and peppers because so many of the crops in our Zone can just be directly sewn by seed however tomatoes and peppers should be trans trans planted and it’s really easy to just get your Tomatoes started from seed in their

Own individual pots prior to the planting season so I would recommend probably getting those going in the next few weeks or in February and if you head to this video right here I have an entire video that’s all about how to start your own tomatoes from seed so

Head to that video next and I’ll see you there
