Oh…Wow! Your beds are beautiful! Jack & the Beanstalk will have nothing on you in the Spring!!! I’m inspired to get out in the cold & get my empty beds better prepared for Spring. Also, love your hat! Where can I get a winter hat like that? You look great. So glad you have recovered from your cold. I keep reassessing to continue gardening as I age & prepping now will help!
Wow what a jungle it was last year. So glad you are getting some help to get the beds ready for spring planting as that is a huge job. Stay warm in the coming storms..
Glad you are finally feeling better.
hi kaye 🤗
glad you're feeling better.
you two got a lot of work done on your raised beds. definitely looking forward to seeing what you grow in them. tfs
Good morning Kaye, I watched the replay of the live stream last night, and even replayed parts again. It was a really good one. I've been concerned about you and keeping you in my prayers. I'm glad you've been able to find help along the way. I pray for you safety, protection, and provision this year and that all your endeavors are fruitful. Were I younger, I must tell you, I would find so much joy in coming over to play in the dirt (as I call it) with you. You have such a lovely place and I love seeing you every week. Sending love and blessings 🥰
Hi my Darling and a Happy New Year to you. We are looking for some land in Minnesota a few Acres so that we can build a Cabin for a Getaway x also we want others to Enjoy the Off Grid Life, to see if it is a Life they would like. As you know i Retire next year, and get paid lol, which will be lovely. but we will not be moving from our current House until Hubs Retires. Hubs is just under 2 years younger than I. This will be a massive move for us 19 years in the Making. The American Property will be a place where we can visit Unwind. Make new friends, and show old friends, current friends what it is all about. So many People are saying Goodbye to the Powers that be. and starting Homesteads which is Fantastic We have chosen 3 Countries we would like to live in, 10 Acres will be great. Much Love Nana x
Before you treat all your beds with wood ash, you might want to first check the pH to see if you really need to increase the alkalinity. Strawberries and potatoes and other plants prefer more acidic soil. Depending what you plan to plant there, you might want some acidic beds and some alkaline beds and maybe some neutral beds.
I look for the right environment Kaye, most times.
Did you do all the beds with the same procedure? With the cloth… May have missed you saying it, not sure.
Thanks for the video, hope the young man can come back to help out with gardening chores.
Kaye we got about five or six inches of snow here in in Kentucky.😊
Glad you decided what you want to do. Hope all is OK with your winter snow storm. Saw video of weather in Nashville last night and whew! I plan to make my two wood kit cedar raised beds into a tall single by stacking the two (possible due to the slot and tennon construction). Will be getting six more individual kits so as to have four tall beds (planning for my older age and working towards having the beds for several years). I have nearly all my new and unopened old seeds and will be starting some indoors in a Southern window in the next weeks. Nutgrass is evil like my Bermuda lawn that spreads out of the ground runners, below ground runners and seeds. I have weed cloth under the bed that will stay as the bottom between my two existing.
You may want to put a weed cloth down on top of your beds too. You cut or burn holes and then plant. Keeps weeds from overtaking your garden. I use it and it’s wonderful. My bed is smaller too
That looks great!
Looks great! Activated charcoal works wonderful I like putting it under my tomato plants in the spring!
Brrr….I was cold just watching y'all work outside. It's in the 20's and teens here in Texas….. can't wait till spring. I don't do winter very well.😊🐱
❤❤ Unfortunately, that's not very attractive. The wood is much nicer looking. But you gotta do what you gotta do and keep those weeds away. ❤
There is a huge snow storm in Tennessee right now. When did you record this? It's minus 15*F with minus 40* F with the wind chill last night in Nebraska. OPPD decided to cut the power to 2400 residents to save the power grid because they closed the nuclear power plant down. They joined an agreement with Texas and we are selling our power to them so Nebraskans get sacrificed.
Great to see that you are going to grow in raised beds. Take note what you sew in each bed. You can then follow a rotation systen-something you could not do in CA. While you are at it get to know good and bad companion plants. Sew a few onion plants wifh your carrot bed.The respectice flies fight each other. So no carrot or onion fly damage. Patrick xx
That looks like a good solution. I've been wanting to join a livestream but my granddaughter is with me on Sundays. I won't be gardening for a little while because I broke a rib last week.
I covered my raised beds for last year's polar blast and only managed to save about a third of it.
I hope you have really good luck with yours Kate. I used industrial greenhouse commercial grade landscape cloth in mine and still had dog gone weeds and briars. In areas not under a bed I used Pre-emergent weed stop and that did pretty good.. It's so much work get them prepared. Stay warm this week. It's gonna be one for the record books.
Glad you found a helper !
