Hello welcome to Yellow door Urban Homestead I am Asia and I’m an Urban Gardener growing in a small space out in my Backyard tonight we are going to do a harvest to table some of the things you see I harvested some of the things I did not I do want to start showing you all how I use my Harvest and so tonight we’re going to make leak and potato soup

Because guess what I finally harvested the Leaks okay so now that we got all of that stuff chopped up and ready to go we’re going to try this recipe so this recipe is from I want to say Pioneer Woman I found it online today yes it’s the Pioneer Woman um it says prep time is 15

Minutes now I know that took me longer than 15 minutes and then before I turned this camera on I had prepped two keep that in mind um and it says total time cooking and everything it’s 50 minutes and it’s 6 to8 serving so I’m excited to try that

So what came out of my garden what came out of my garden the leaks came out of my garden and the time came out of my garden I thought I had potatoes I came home from the grocery store went grocery shopping did not get any potatoes cuz I

Thought we still had potatoes from when I had harvested them early in Spring they are all gone so now I know I need to plant more potatoes okay so I went and put my hair up um okay so it says in a medium Dutch oven we’re calling this medium I don’t know

What size Dutch oven this is heat the oil which it is 3 tablespoons of olive oil so we go ahead and pour that in and the butter over medium heat so I am using my London Sunshine cook toop I figured it would be easier to do this video on this cook top

Also it would give me a chance to kind of see how this works aside from boiling water like I did yesterday if you saw the garden tour yesterday so we’re going to cook on the London Sunshine dutch ovens cast iron pans they do work so

That is a plus we’re going to go ahead and drop the butter in that’s three tablespoons of butter so we’ll go ahead and turn this on and it says medium heat so it goes up to P9 we’re going to go ahead and let that cook I have it on P5

Because I feel like that’s medium heat the book probably tells tells me what’s medium heat but we all know me okay so our butter and oil is just about melted I’m kind of liking this but I knew I would I like stuff like this and I think it’s really cool um cuz if

We keep these videos up this would be very useful and y’all let me know in the comments below if this is something you’re interested in if it is I will keep doing it um because I’m oh and you can drop some recipes that you want me

To try from the things that you know I’m growing in the garden um because that’s the whole thing I want to start showing you all how I use my food it’s a perfect time for that because um it’s cold outside so this does Make Some Noise I’m

Sure you can hear the fan but you would have to think it would make some kind of noise because it’s working you know off of a fan I would assume okay so now that that’s heated it’s telling me to add the potatoes it’s also telling me to add the

Leaks my leaks are going in and it’s telling me to add the celery I am not a lover of celery I do not grow celery if I like this I’ll grow celery next year so it says cook stirring until the leaks are tender so like 6 to 8 minutes it’s

3:41 we going to do that [Applause] okay it’s 3:46 which is 5 minutes but they do look tender so we’re going to air on the side of caution cuz they still have to cook but it says to stare in the chicken bra so that’s what I have here stir in the chicken bra uh-oh I making a mess I’m

Making a mess and it’s six cups of chicken brth so that was four and this is two more oh no I forgot to add the garlic until it was fragrant so it’s going in now that that was my mistake it’s okay maybe would have got a little more garlic taste and that was

Three cloves of garlic and it says to add in the salt and the pepper that was 34 teaspoon of pepper and then this is a tablespoon and a half of kosher kosher salt and it says to drop the time sprigs in says bring to a simmer over medium

High heat so we’re going to bring it to a simmer which means I’m going to turn this up a little bit a button for each one of the aisles here I’m going to press the button and then going to do the up button and it goes up to nine so I would

Say seven is medium high and to let that simmer and going to wash these dishes so many dishes for one video and so I’m going to put the top on this and once it comes to a simmer then I’ll take it off cuz it said to bring it

To a simmer and then it said reduce the heat to medium low and cook uncovered so maybe I’m thinking it’s supposed to be covered now so ready to cover that give it a few minutes come back and check on it all right yep we’re at a

Simmer I feel like it’s a simmer so now we’re going to go ahead and turn it back down press the button and press down so now we just need to let it cook until the potatoes are tender and uncovered it’s smelling really good in here y’all

Like I’m not a big onion eater and I’m not a big celery eater but it is smelling very good in here so I’m hopeful okay so we are back it’s probably been about 15 minutes or so and I used the fork to check the potatoes

And I want some like potato in mine I don’t want it to be straight cream so I’m fine with the texture of the potatoes I imagine if you want it to be like a creamy soup that you would want to let your potatoes cook a little bit

Longer so at this point it is telling me to remove the time sprs so let’s find those no time left on them so I guess that’s a good thing but not on that one little bit left on that there were like six of them in here so I need to find

Them I think that’s it NOP there goes one more and I put the cream back in the refrigerator I didn’t want it to be sitting out so we’ll grab that um and it says we want to trans transer four cups of the soup into a blender okay so I got

To get the blender all right we have the blender which I had just washed so that’s what you’re seeing it is not dirty we’re going to get like a ladle and get four cups of this soup it says to take the top off and cover this with a towel when we blend

It let’s see what that looks like well I don’t know where the ladle is so we going to use a cup I mean a regular spoon to do it we just going to put the soup in it says the soup does that mean with potatoes well

Yeah other than that why would you be blending it yeah putting it all in here making sure we get a good amount of soup though cuz I looked it up and apparently this can turn into a gummy soup if uh if your potatoes are too small which is why

I cut my potatoes so big cuz I didn’t want it to be to be gummy so I guess that’s enough and we’re going to pour it into the blender making a mess making a mess a small mess but a mess nonetheless now we’re going to put the top on it and it

Says to pay it now I got to mix I got to blend and I got to chop so we’re going to go with the blend all right we’re going to turn it off cuz I want to make sure that we don’t end up gummy doesn’t seem gummy

Doesn’t appear gummy so we’re going to put this back in all right let’s double check this looks like it’s going to be delicious y’all stare in the cream and all right so we’re going to stir in the cream and it says to let this cook for

15 to 20 more minutes till the soup is slightly thick all right we’re going to do that and then we’ll be back that’s time that’s time y’all it looks delicious let’s put it in a bowl and let’s test it together I’m so excited I’ve been thinking about this since I don’t know

Probably Midsummer when people started telling me I love potatoes shouldn’t be eating a lot of them it looks good I’m just getting a small amount about to taste it we’ll turn this off so when you turn it off the fan still goes so I’m going to

Unplug it for the sake of this video so now that you hear what the house sounds like with without it on that’s the noise level it’s not very loud but depending on what you’re doing maybe it’s too loud for you all right I’m going to grab a chair let’s see

Y’all let’s see what it’s tasting like looks and smells delicious I’m thinking this would be good with some bacon I ain’t tasted it yet but it just seemed like I love bacon everything is better with bacon that’s absolutely delicious I would put a little more salt

In it but she said to add more salt if you needed more salt oh my God it’s so good y’all it’s so creamy mhm that’s delicious M I’m assuming I could freeze this mhm I’ll put a link to the recipe I used Below in case you want to try it it’s delicious

That’s one thing about gardening when you start growing vegetables that you don’t normally eat then you start eating meals that you don’t normally eat and this one this one is a winner so if you’re interested in a cook toop there will be a link down in the

Description box um it’s also on my previous video if you’re interested in it I think it did a marvelous job it’s like cooking on a stove you also can insert it into a space um like if you had a tiny home I want a tiny I’m happy that I decided to you know

Cook on it too because now I know that I can cook a I can cook a meal on here at least a pot of soup I hope you enjoyed this video if you did don’t forget to like share subscribe don’t forget to visit me over on Instagram where I post

About the things going on in the garden almost every day bye y’all

  1. I really enjoy watching your cook because you're not fake everything don't have to be proper and primm. What I mean is if you spill something you show it on the video it's the same thing would happen at my house I call that being real LOL. The recipe looks delicious and I'm going to have to give it a try because I like potato soup. I'm interested in that induction cooker you have, because I've had one before and they are a easy to control your heat cooking tool.

  2. Sitting here in bed after surgery 3 days ago and saw this video. Was excited to watch because I was planning to try this soup when my leeks are ready. I dont reacall you planting leeks. Well, great job, enjoy!

  3. Yes! I would love to see more harvest to table and preservation videos❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

  4. i loved seeing you cook , because sometimes we growing all these different vegtables and either dont know what to do with them after haha so new recipes and inspiration definately a plus , and you look like you love cooking you absolutely shine in the kitchen <3

  5. Yes, put some bacon in it. Nothing like that bacon. Potato soup is always a winner during any time of the year for me. Tfs

  6. I really enjoyed watching you use your induction cooktop as the Yellow Door Julia Child 😅 It's an interesting video because we gardeners spend so much time working on growing food that it is good to see someone prepare parts of their harvest.

  7. Everything look good I love licks soup, so leeks and potato soup with a side of bacon but you take care. God bless you and I would love to know where your son got your jacket from from because I would love to get my daughter one.

  8. I cooked this soup and added kale. I cooked the kale in the remaining chicken broth on medium heat and added it to the soup after I pureed the leeks/potatoes. Good, good, good! My husband liked it also.

  9. Yes to the cooking videos! Try to make Zuppa Toscana soup. I don’t eat pork so I substitute with cod it is so delicious😋
I’m sure any kind of meat or seafood would work just fine. You could put your own spin on it.

  10. Yes girl, please do! How about some of those different greens we started talking about? 😊 I also was not a celery fan, but I added to a soup, didn't notice them texture wise, but it did add to the flavor. So I just keep em chopped an frozen-ready for soup days.

  11. I'm definitely interested in videos like this. When I get to this point in my garden, I definitely want to do the same thing. I would definitely watch this series if you continued to do this. I love Pioneer Woman, I watch her on Food Network. Her kitchen stuff is really cute. I would definitely try this recipe.

  12. Asia that soup looks wonderful. it looks like it’ll be very good. I make a potato soup. Mine is different than yours but pretty similar. I will make a pound of bacon and cut up grade about half a pound of super sharp cheddar cheese and serve that as goodies you can put on your potato soup. But your soup looks like it’ll be a little bit different than mine so I might have to give it a try next time I make soup.

  13. Hello , We LOVED the soup , I added shredded chicken breast that I boiled in crawfish seasoning 1st , then added it about 5min. before I turned the fire off…..LOVED IT , LOVED IT…..about to make it again in a few minutes
