Here’s how I prep my garden and plants for winter I start by mulching my empty beds with an organic material like pine straw or leaves then for anything I have still growing like these carrots I have hoops and frost blankets ready to go in the event that we get really cold
Weather I also like to mulch any perennial herbs in my raised beds just to give them a little bit of extra protection over the winter I make sure our cold frames are planted out with plenty of fresh greens for the winter and in addition to flower seed heads I
Leave up in the garden I make sure my bird feeders are filled I fill my compost bins and my neighbors give me their straw Bells these are great to have on hand for brown material for composting any container plants staying outside get pulled up closer to my home
I also like to add a little bit of leaf mulch container plants coming inside get a strong spray of water to remove any pests and then they’re placed in front of a sunny window I also add grow lights to some of my larger plants that may need a little bit extra indoor plants
Still need good drainage I like using pet crate trays to catch any runoff
