Can you grow rhododendrons in your zone? Would there be enough sun/shade for them? They get height to them – eventually! Camillias might do well and eventually give you some height.
Jenny, what about adding a beautiful Evergreen where that hydranja is
Iām in 7b maryland, in the shade, dappled shade. My hostas grow great in spring šand are pretty much gone by July. Things turn brown and disappear, including Lily of the valley. I have lost more heuchera than I can count, except for the Caramel which has been in pots for about 15 years. I garden in clay soil too. Any advice? Your hostas look so good!

Beautiful spot. I love how it has filled in. The area you wanted help with where the puffer fish is, maybe a pieris? They are gorgeous in the spring with their pendulous flowers and redish foliage when the leaf out. Also, not so verticle, but just as gorgeous is a Leucothoe. They are an evergreen and have the same type of pendulous flowers. Love them both!
My suggestion for a pufferfish replacement, PW Double Play 'Blue Kazoo' spirea. It should work for your 7b zone as it's good to 8b. The leaf color play is very attractive. Size is medium. Sun/part sun.
My 'Black Lace' elderberry grows very tall and wide in full sun. In spring (or fall) I cut it back to about 12" to keep it in check because it will hang over the neighbors' fence into their yard.

Me too I need help ,I took out a rhododendron that was massive in the front corner of my house ,I have looked for 2 years ,prefer evergreen,something with some heightā¦ā¦ I bought a oak leaf but havenāt planted. I get tons of light just no sun. HELP please. Zone 7a

Maybe you could plant Enkianthus campanulatus. It a part shade to shade plant with beautiful fall color and tiny bell flowers. I don't know how it does in your zone.

ā¤ļøPlease show us how you move the Puffer Fish. I have a little quick fire fab doing the same thing and it needs moved. I donāt want to lose it in its move. An idea in its place is sweetspire Itea. They take any sun exposure. PW has Scentlandia and Little Henry, both get 2-3ā. Iāve added them in my shade areas for a little height and spring color. Add to that, some fall color as well!

Beautiful! ā¦ maybe a Japanese Maple (Shaina) or a small ginkgo to replace the hydrangea. I wish I had more shade to plant hostas and ferns. Yours are gorgeous!
A few hours of afternoon sun in the South is such a troublesome area! Shrubs hat have done pretty well in my backyard spots with similar conditions – Juliet cleyera, green illicium, Double Play spirea, distyllium, green abelia, podocarpus.
How about a camellia

I'm in zone 8a in North Texas, do you think a Ruby Slippers Oakleaf hydrangea would be okay with 2-3 hours of sun from 11a-1:30pm?

Curious how much sun those traditional Annabelleās are getting. I put 3 in my woodland garden and they didnāt bloom. we did also get affected by the Arctic blast like you this past winter. I am not sure if itās a sun issue(filtered sun mostly) and dappled sun. 7B. I did put them in cages last season because of voles so maybe the roots donāt like it š¤·āāļø

So lovely!! Iām in Nashville woods 7b with heavy deer pressure. They mow down most of this if Iām not consistent with Deer Stopper II. I want the ferns!
