We have Chinese Chestnut trees that are being eaten alive. Year after year 50% of the leaves are coming off. It doesn't take a genius to see that it can't continue without a downward spiral into death. Interestingly, they much prefer the "Eaton" grafted variety to others, which is really bad, because so do we. We set out traps and collected 600,000 of them last year, also put down milky spore, and it made NO difference this year. I put a trap on a pawpaw tree thinking that they couldn't eat it, and it would attract the beetles away from the chestnuts but I was wrong, they CAN eat the pawpaw and still destroy the chestnuts too.
