Hello, friends!
In this video, I’m going to reflect on what my planning system looked like at the beginning of 2023, how it involved by the end of the year, and what my plans are for 2024.
This one’s a chatty one, so grab a beverage of your choice and join me for a planner ramble 🙂 I’ve included a few time stamps below to give you a sense of the different topics I touched on throughout the video.
How did your 2023 go in terms of planning?

Are there such things as over organizing? I’m just too lazy to plan. I go by the seat of my pants 😂I just can’t stick to my plans 😅but you do good! Glad you enjoy planning! You will write the best autobiography!❤
Best of luck to you for 2024! Thanks so much for this video. I appreciated your in-depth reflections on how 2023 went: what worked for you, what didn't, and why – and what you're trying and why for 2024. I found it very helpful.
2023 went well for me. It was my 5th year in the Hobonichi A6 Planner (English). I've used it in different ways, from strictly functional planning to taking work notes. Over the last couple of years I have used it for quick journaling throughout the day – ideas, thoughts, quotes, reflections, etc. It's been great, but I really needed a week-on-2-pages layout. I've tried several that didn't work for me: Hobonichi's weekly supplement and Weeks; Traveler's Company weekly inserts, both the week + memo and the vertical week; and the Jiyu weekly insert from Baum Kuchen. None of those worked for me. The Cousin is too large and heavy. In June I picked up a B6 Common Planner (July -December 2023 only) and also a 2023 Jibun Techo Biz Mini (on sale for 50% off). The Common Planner didn't really work – I am going to use it as a regular notebook at some point, but not as a planner. Then I opened the Biz Mini, and it was perfect! Like magic. I've been using it to keep my schedule of meetings and appointments, but also to track my time. It's a great tool for keeping me mindful of how I spend my time, and it's super portable. I've been using both the A6 Hobonichi and the Biz Mini consistently since July – so for next year, I am sticking with both of them. I'm going to try the new Hobonichi Original A6 in English, though. I'm excited to try the more colorful layout. I've never tried the Original before because I can't read Japanese, and I love reading the quotes. I also use two other notebooks daily: an A5 notebook for longform journaling (currently in a Nanami Seven Seas Writer – I write 4 pages per day); and a B6 Stalogy for work notes, reading notes, lists, and other random stuff (I may switch this up for 2024). I attempted the BuJo system a few years ago and it was a disaster. I needed more structure – enough but not too much – a Goldilocks thing, haha. I can't always explain it, but I know it when I feel it.
I started out with a separate self-care planner in the Weeks but found the other catchall planner going unused, so I moved everything into the Weeks but felt cramped and burned through the notes pages too fast. This year I'm excited to try out the Kokuyo x Bushimen PAL planner. It's in my sweet spot B6 size.
I think the weeks planner is an excellent project planner. It gives the perfect over view and space. I use a mega and it’s amazing how much I fit in there. I also love that I can keep it with me because it’s so small.
I used a cousin, mega weeks, a6, and 5 year for 2022 and 2023. It worked really well! I used all of the sections (except the perpetual calendar at the beginning of the cousin😂).
I purchased a b6 undated wonderland planner a couple of years ago and didn’t like it for various reasons. This year I’m going to use it in place of the a6 hobonichi just to use it up.
This system would work really well for me and It's comforting to see others who also need that extra space to function well. Watching you accept that you need x amount of books and not beating yourself up about it makes me feel like I could do that too. Thank you for sharing x
I love love LOVE chatty videos about planners, especially when there are several in a system! This one was such a treat!! 💖
PS, if you want to do the chapters, you have to have a 0:00 as the first timestamp. Usually I tag it as Intro for my chaptered vids. 😊
