I’ll be direct sowing some in soil and also using the toothpick and water method of propagating them. I’ll show you how to grow avocado from seed from start to finish using several methods to find out what the most effective way to plant the seeds. I include many updates within the video right up until 5 months of growth. I also show how to transplant avocados from water to soil and the experiment finishes with showing some clear results of the best way to germinate avos from the pit of a store bought fruit.

Please read :). If you’d like to grow an avocado tree and have it bear good quality fruit in a shorter time, then there is another step to this process. You can use the seedling that you’ve grown as a rootstock and graft onto that. I plan to make a video about this topic at some stage as its something that anyone can have a go with and a great skill to learn more about.

If you don’t graft your tree, they can take quite a long time to fruit, and the fruit quality can vary quite a lot from seedling trees, meaning the resulting fruit may not be as good as the original, or it potentially could be even better.
Otherwise if you just want to grow your avocado as a houseplant or for a fun experiment then that’s awesome too as they do make a beautiful plant or tree 😁 🌱

So I grew an avocado from the pit in dirt. Worked wonderful. All the ones I see are tall with leaves at the top. Mine is healthy but it's about 10 inches tall and looks like a bush. Big healthy leaves. Should I trim some off the bottom so it focuses on getting taller?

Love your video! Growing all sorts of trees and fruits from seed has become a huge hobby of mine.
For avocados, I've always soaked my seeds for 24 to 48 hours, then peel the brown skin off. Comes off very easy, plus the water helps to draw out growth inhibitors (so I've read, but not sure how much truth that holds?).
So far, I've successfully grown 31 avocado trees all with the wet paper towel/plastic bag method. Placing in a dark cool place for a couple weeks, then transferring the germinated seeds to a pot.
Every one of them was successful and QUICK!!! I haven't tried placing directly in soil; however, it's now on my list!! Thank you!!

Moral is NEVER GIVE UP on your avacados.
Most important is to not forget the octopus on the jar its helps it grow quicker 😂
So if I water with vitamin B to reduce transplant shock, would it help? Need to do another 4 avocados seed comparison?
I’ve had one in water for 10 weeks and it’s cracked open but no sprout or roots. Don’t know whether to keep at it or not.
