My kids had a corner cabinet similar to that, but the 2 corner doors were hinged so you could open it wide, but it was still very difficult to get in there and clean. They had spices and baking ingredients on the turntable and ended up getting ants. It was almost impossible to get rid of the ants because of sugar that had spilled back there with 3 kids getting it for their oatmeal, and also not being able to really get back there and thoroughly clean the way you would want to. There was no good solution other than not store food in that cabinet. They’re in a different house now without that kind of cabinet. Thank you for making us aware of this. While I don’t have any corner cabinets, I do have some very deep cabinets and things could easily spill all the way back and I wouldn’t know until I took everything out of the cabinet. These are things you would never think to look for when buying a house.
Be safe with that. Hurricane Hugo left my house in downtown Charleston under water (over the roof), which caused it to be full of black mold very quickly. It was horrendous to get rid of and caused me to have some health issues for years. Glad you caught yours before it had spread further!!
Very helpful; thanks😁
If it's in the back where you can't see then paint or spray with killz paint primer, it specifically is listed to kill mold and seal the area. Also you should be a Pantene model, beautiful hair
Hi! This should also be a warning to keep an eye on stored cans of pineapple. I had two cans less than two years old that pushed their lids open. The enzymes in pineapple eat the linings in the cans.
Could you have Rat Problem..? Mice wouldn't dent those cans
I use a flashlight to once in a while check in mine.I vacuum back in there and you can use something with a handle to wrap a cleaning rag on and then wipe it all down.
That tip about the light is good,I have to get one.
I think the can was old,got caught on the shelving and leaked.
I would just clean it and not worry as it isn't from a water leak,it is a can and has dried up.
I would just clean with peroxide till it quits bubbling up,LOL
It is good to regularly check back there though.
Blessings
Donna
I have one of those corner cabinets. And to reach the back I have to crawl and reach in. No food but stuff I was not currently using. Then forget them. Worthless cabinets.
As foods in cans age, the enzymes can cause pressure to build up an create a hole somewhere in the can, or create acids that will eat away at the metal and actually cause them to leak, especially at the seam. When I cleaned my mother's house after her death, she had some expired canned food in the back of her cabinet, out of her reach, which had leaked and turned the label black. It probably wasn't an animal in your cabinet, it's just what happens to old canned food.
I very much dislike corner cabinets….I never use them or just put one large container of vinegar that can be seen (no oil or any other item that can rot) for the very reason you cannot see or get in there well enough. I don't put food items in bottom cabinets. I use vinegar mostly to clean…and vinegar inhibits mold growth so if it spills, no great harm. I would remove that lazy susan if possible. Thank you, have a wonderful blessed day.😊❤
Yes, no bleach on porous surfaces, plastic tile ok. Not wood , grout. Vinegar and borax and such fine:) Black stuff is probably not mold, just the food. I'd still use vinegar, Thieves etc:) I hate my lazy susan. I want to rip it out, not as nice as yours. It's the terrible plastic one.I was just talking about it to my husband yesterday lol. Happy blessed Thanksgiving ❤
I'm getting tired of YT deleting my comments. You all don't know what you've been missing! Can't have any truth circulating around. Approved opinions only.
I replaced all those wire Lazy Susans (a nuisance to me) when I moved into my house with regular shelves. I store kitchen/cooking items I need on special occasions only in the back not to waste cupboard space and at the front what I need more often. If the mold had been on the back wall of your cupboard it would be worrisome because you would not know how deep into the wall the mold had spread. What you have is at the bottom of the cupboard. There is most likely a space/gap below so it probably did not affect the floor underneath. How you cleaned it I believe it should be fine. TYFS 💕
I have that corner cabinet, but we built the house. Still, I don’t know exactly what’s stashed up in there. The older I get, the more forgetful I am. And yes, yes stuff is stashed everywhere. Your video is timely because I’m off this coming week. I have plans to organize these areas.
OMG…your hair looks really cute like that ❤. It took 20years off your life, you look like a young country girl 🤠
Thieves Household Cleaner STAIGHT! Heard a testimony in 2016 that it not only kills the mold but prevents it from returning.
I use my 'grabber' to reach anything I don't want to touch as well as for hard to reach areas. I wish I had bought it years sooner than I did! It's SO handy!
Children around the world rejoice as Santa Claus announces there will be lots of extra gifts for everyone this year, since his delivery list for Gaza shrinks more and more everyday.
Great info!
My goodness! That was a not so pleasant surprise, wasn't it! Glad you found it and are not having to live with that mold in your kitchen all Winter long! My kitchen has two corners similar to that, but only has one long shelf that reaches all the way back. I most certainly have not put anything back there, as I'd literally have to crawl in to retrieve it! I've also got cabinets that go all the way to the ceiling….What were they thinking? In order to access those top cabinets, I need a large ladder. Needless to say, I've lived here for three years and still couldn't tell you what's up.
Glad to hear about treating the dreaded black mold!
My kitchen has identical cabinet arrangements
I wanted a drop in cook top and a wall oven and this little place checked almost all my preferences.
Oh kaye, at our age, if you can't see it, you don't have it! Lost in the abyss! Keep it less!
I have the kind of 360 round lazy Susan lower corner cabinet with a base. A couple months ago I mentioned to my son that it really irks me that I can't see behind it and I have always wondered if any of the previous owners let anything fall back in there. He is 6'4 and has long arms. Immediately he said step aside mom, and whipped out his cell phone. Using the flashlight function combined with the camera he took video of the entire interior. It was a great relief to see with my own eyes that there was nothing back there. I only keep the toaster, processor, grater, the same salad spinner you have, mixing bowls and the giant bottle of olive oil from Costco in there. If any one of those things fell out, they are so big it would keep the cabinet from being able to close I think. FYI you can't store canned citrus of any kind long term. Ask me how I know 🫤
I just found boxes of crackers that had an expiration date of 2022… ooops, guess my stash of “supplies” need to be rotated… ✌🏻♥
t my grandmothers house I always talk about there is one of those corner shelves but it is not a sliding one. It has the lazy susan in it. Even then if you spin it too fast you can send goods off the back.
Regarding the mold… I almost killed myself and my kitty as I watered a plant which was down inside a porcelain pot. I put a paper towel down to sop up the excess water…. and I forgot about it! … 6 months later, I finally looked inside the pot because the plant began to look progressively worse and there were huge black mold spores, gray ones too… I about passed out… I had been feeling sick for about six months. My cat’s eye had been weeping for the same 6 months.. I kept thinking it was just old age. Once I saw the mold I did the same as you. I can’t afford a huge cleanup bill. I threw out the pot, the plant, the other plants in the room. I’d even gone to the doctors for a blood test, they found nothing… the one thing I felt more horrible about than all else? Was that my poor kitty had suffered also and I didn’t have a clue. Thankful this period ended back in spring so it’s been a few months. I opened my windows in that room and set up a fan to “blow” out of the screens. God bless you Kaye! Good you found it! Xx..
Very interesting 🤔
I have also seen a thin piece of cabinet wood covering that inside part; but that leaves a void that no man shall ever see. I tried to remove it but it wouldn’t come out through the door lol.
Thank tou for the tips. Mold can be so deadly!
Vinegar! It will kill the roots of mold.
