Hi all,

Im new to the hobby and recently make this mossarium modeled after a build from Benjiplant on YouTube (https://youtu.be/eTrGgwiLO3w?si=KG_cfQhfYC1vbM8l)

My question is, does anyone have any advice to determine if moss is alive or or dead/dying? I built the mossarium 10 days ago using aquatic moss from the pet store (I believe it was a mix of Christmas moss and Java moss) and haven’t seen much change to the moss except maybe it yellowing a little. No browning thankfully, but definitely no growth. When should I expect to see some new growth after planting it?

I watered it with filtered water with a mister and am using a ONF grow light for 12 hours a day. I also added springtails to keep mold down and haven’t noticed any mold problems yet.

Hopefully I’m just being overly anxious/impatient about the moss growing in, but would love to know if I’m doing something wrong early to hopefully correct it! Thanks for any advice! 😄

I don’t see anything wrong but maybe the direct light is too strong for it? Is the moss in the shade greener or is it just the shadow? You can try and adjust the light if you want and experiment.
