Much of high-yield urban gardening comes down to playing with two things: time and space. Mastering succession planting is one of the best ways to squeeze out the absolute maximum amount of produce from your yard as you possibly can.

With succession planting, you can:
– Get more regular harvests of your favorite crops
– Squeeze quick-growing crops into the “shoulders” of the growing season
– Never leave any part of your garden barren for too long

In this video I go over the way I think about succession planting. You only need to know three things:

1. Your last frost
2. How long your desired crop takes to grow
3. Your first frost

With those three variables, you can plan an entire garden by working backwards from your desired harvest date.
