  1. The thing that made Fran so devastating here in Raleigh was hurricane Dennis sat off shore for a week and saturated the ground thoroughly. Then Fran's winds just toppled the trees because the roots didn't have anything but mud to hang on to.

  2. Please help!! I am looking for an Empress of China dogwood. I really want to plant it this fall. I can't find one anywhere? I used your plant supplies list and came up empty handed. Any suggestions of where I can locate one?

  3. I like seeing all the different design ideas, especially the hardscaping these great gardeners use. My garden lacks that. Thanks for sharing (and for the thumbnail).

  4. I found the last one particularly inspiring. Kudos to Bonnie. All of these homeowners really created lovely spaces to enjoy. It’s so good for mental and physical health to make surroundings more beautiful.

  5. WOW – I love these before/on-going segments. It gives me inspiration and also time to sit and relax in the results of someone's hard work. Nice work!

  6. Hi ! I f I have questions regarding the type of shrubs some of them used, should I send you an email with the photos ? I'm interesting in the names, I'm looking for this type of shrubs with narrow trunks and not a deep shading foliage 🙂

  7. Great transformation with Mark and Dianne’s place in WA state! How inviting it is, just draws you right in 🏡 And the back with the addition of the shed and fencing looks so interesting!

  8. Loved seeing all these great photos!

Yes, indeed storms can radically change a landscape. In 2019 Hurricane Dorian came ashore in the Wilmington,NC area. Tornadoes embedded in the Cat 1 hurricane ripped through my neighborhood. All my big pine trees and oak trees were wiped out along with my old fashioned azaleas and hydrangeas. No more shady backyard. It's now full HOT sun. The deck had to be rebuilt because a big oak landed on it. It's too hot to use in the summer. The mangled yard got cleaned up, but it is a completely different yard now.

  9. Thanks so much for including our garden, Jim! It made my day! I accidentally included the cut flower arrangement, so embarrassing. 🤦‍♀️

  10. Love that weeping nootka on the corner of the house! I've got a house where the land slopes down to one side like that too, I might have to copy that idea!

  11. I love that you say “there’s no after”! I think if the goal is to improve a home’s curb appeal, there could be an “after”. But if you’re actually “gardening” things are always evolving. That’s what make is fun to me!

  12. Question for this weeks Q&A: as a garden-lover visiting Raleigh (in March), what should I see/visit/shop?
