Wish we had something other than iron ore here in Texas, soil is much better in Illinois.. hope you’re doing well..
Somebody must have put some Viagra on your plants..
Kaye, don’t beat yourself up too much you had a broken knee cute though how excited you got over anything still growing.
Hope this helps
Kaye, you can root cuttings from those pepper plants and grow them over the winter somewhere that stays over about 40 F. Peppers are actually tender tropical perennials that will keep producing year after year, getting larger and more drought/heat hardy as they get bigger. You can prune them hard and they will usually come back if they don't freeze or get completely dry. For some common varieties it may not be worth it to you, but if your season is very short or you have uncommon plants that you cherish, it can be a great way to keep a particular strain going.
I was taught by a professional melon farmer to look at the underside pale splotch on any melon to see it go from yellow/green to more of a pure white/cream color and to look at the tendril opposite of the melon's stem to see it wither and go brown. In all honesty, I have better luck watching my calendar from the time I see the baby fruit start and counting days to maturity. I'll probably never be 100% on judging melons, even though I've been trying to learn since I was about five. That's well over 50 years of effort. I keep on trying every year, and I'm not sorry for all the years of ok and better and great melons. Even an ok melon is better than no melon!
You can eat any squash young, and probably get away with most even when larger as long as you peel and cook then longer. I'd sure be saving seeds off that monster. That's a LOT of food!
You made me laugh! I usually am up to let the laying hens out of their coop at daylight in a pair of panties and a big old soft tee shirt before I've even brushed my hair. The girls never say anything about it. When it gets colder and the sun rises later, I'll likely be wearing some ratty old giant sweater or my old flannel jacket over my pajamas, and they have never ever given me the side-eye for that either.
I have learned to always slip on my rubber garden boots before I go out in the garden. I always end up getting sidetracked by harvest or weeds or a plant that needs a tie or a bug that needs to be squished. It's always something. I have several discarded/rescued mailboxes placed in strategic locations in my garden to hold extra clippers, a sturdy fabric bag, gloves, a garden knife, and a hand trowel. Some have my wasp spray and some have my homemade insect repellant. Saves me frustration and steps. I can't think that I've ever gone out into the garden and right back out again. My garden seduces me one way or another every time.
Gardens can be full of fun surprises, can't they? You're not the only gardener who visits her neglected garden without a basket! Looks like a wheel barrow's worth still. Blessings to you Kaye!🌻
Hi ya little sister. The monster, by sight & leaf structure looks like a zucchini. The "harvest moon" has just happened. I'd say you should take a basket 1st chore in the morning & collect everything. Don't wait till plants stop producing to clear the stalks. You will overload yourself & get behind. All my good juju to you!! 💜💪💥♎🌎⛵🇺🇸
You had filling up with laughter Kaye over those crazy long mammoth squash 😅 what a blessing to laugh ,thanks my friend, I must admit I was feeling a little grumpy before I saw your video, your continued abundance is beautiful, love is the key, always 💞
You truly have a "WOW" garden! 😊
Wow watermelon in October and those squash/zucchini are awesome! What a great way to start the day even if it is overcast and wet. Yes you still have lots of harvesting to do especially those tomatoes. I just harvested my green ones and hope they can finish maturing indoors. Hope you have a blessed week and many more surprises to come..
You grew to large of a garden for one gal to handle. I never once thought that watching you plant out your garden though! Lol….I plant two pepper plants and disked myself saying “that’s not enough!”. Then I plant 6. Harvest comes in and I’m drowning. Next year, two plants will be fine and no more disking myself! 🤣🤣
Better hire a Huntress or a Huntsman to get monsters! Could you use Vinger and Borax mix to use as an insecticide?
Wow! Your side garden is a fun place. Lots happening in there you have been greatly blessed this season!
LOL Kaye you sound like a kid at Christmas! Looks awesome. The ghost peppers look yummy. Time to get some help and load up.God bless you Kaye. May God heal you and get you back out doing what you love.
FABULOUS!
Hi Kate! Are those monsters some kind of zucchini? Maybe you could make into flour?
