You can try again. Shave thin layer off of scion and recut the top of root stock. Make sure to apply decent amount of pressure while it bonds. Use rubber bands or panty hose or combination of both or something with similar elasticity. Offsetting the scion may help bonding.

I don’t think the plastic is helping you here…
That orange stuff… is rust.
Id ditch the plastic and try again.
Never grafted an ASTRO though, so if the plastic is normal for them.. đ€š

Another thing i like about using bands is that you can add sulfur more easily around the bands to help with rot.

Not sure if you did, but sometimes watering too soon after grafting will prevent the bond and leaves a thin layer of moisture between the stock and scion. Iâve done that a couple of times and it looked kinda similar.
