Great advice for Scrum Masters needing to gain experience Steve, the Jira sim at home is a nice touch 👍
Another great video Steve, I'm going to suggest the Scrum at home with Jira sim myself to a few people I know 👌
Steve, thanks for another good contribution. Some really good advice for people starting out, will definitely keep this in my back pocket if anyone's looking for a good guide.
I was curious though why you hadn't mentioned becoming familiar with the agile manifesto and the associated principles? Not that I'm trying to be dogmatic or anything but I have found there's some gems in the principles particularly that help explain why we do the things we do, and help fill in the gaps and reinforce thinking when you start doubting yourself.
Also, side note, wanted to thank you again for your various episodes, particularly those on lean flow metrics and the use of Monte Carlo simulations for doing forecasts. It started me on a journey that's resulted in, for one, me switching the teams I'm working with to using a WIP Age chart in stand ups (in place of Jira boards), and they've told me they enjoy it more (unexpected benefit)! I'm also seeing a reduced time in standups and more focus on the goal and pressure to work out a plan to close those really aged tickets.
My nearly year long data gathering experiment weighing estimating by story points against simply counting total tickets (similar to what Vasco Duarte did) is also proving quite fruitful. I've pretty much proved (with data) that using story points is not only wasteful but worse than simply counting tickets (when it comes to forecasting).
Keep up the good work, the impact it's had is quite profound, I really am amazed you don't have many more views and followers.
More great advice Steve, as others have mentioned I'll be using your Jira Scrum simulation at home with my people
This is the best advice I've seen so far for Scrum Masters to gain experience, I'll be using this one for new SM's 👍
Agree with everyone else, another really useful video, particularly if you want to get into scrum mastery, it tells the harsh but fair reality, great video 👌
Very clear explanation of the path to follow. Let’s become scrum masters!
Excellent Steve, really good info for those wanting to be a Scrum Master, I’ll share this out 👍
