Another good quickie video full of good gardening instructions
i was suprised to see that u did not weed before u mulched, although the weeds were small. my daughter keeps insisting that at least 4" of mulch is needed to stop weeds from growing.
😍
Jeff, my brassica did fine, as did my maters and peppers. I’m a believer in biochar(first try using it). Tremendous bounty on tomatoes. Keep that video rolling, we’re just getting started.
That’s why my cabbages fail in the GreenStalks. Spacing.
I've been experimenting with perennial brassicas so I don't have to keep replanting them. Horseradish is the easiest, and the young leaves are edible and taste like strong mustard. Sea kale is another good choice, but I hear it's tricky to germinate, and I haven't gotten my hands on it yet. I have some homesteader's perennial kale going, and I might be able to clone it next year. I also found that one of my arugulas, which is normally biennial, has reverted to its perennial state, which is pretty neat.
I needed this one! I failed on my Broccoli, Cabbage, and Cauliflower two years in a row. :/
Yup – they seem to do best with 18 inch spacing minimum. Aphids are a huge problem where I live. I need to check the underside of the leaves very frequently.
Yay 🎉
Reorged my brassicas a couple of days ago. Still have some producing "trees" from last winter, but also had a bunch of freebes that had started themselves here and there in the garden to reorg into the 'brassica bed'. Now I just have to plant some seeds for the non-volunteers that I want to be eating across the season. Nights are cool enough now in Victoria so they s/b fine. That will leave some lettuce, chard, beets, parsley, etc to get in for the winter season. And, maybe some carrots under glass. Oh, and the garlic, leeks, and salad onions. Pretty much all set I think.
I live in Arizona and we are still on the 112 degree farenheit. Hopefully by next week we will stay under 110 so I can start my winter garden.
What category do Curly Kale and Radishes fall under. Ive have some kindof worms eating the Kale i had growing most of the summer but that was the only thnig they ate. As soon as i planted some radishes for tha fall they moved right to them so i took out the kale and it seemed to get rid of them…
I can’t wait to start mine in pots cuz no room in raised bed. So I will plant one each in pots the kale maybe 2 plants
what kind of soil were you using when you transplanted your seedlings ?
haha.. you have any tips for getting rid of grasshoppers/crickets? My poor lil brassicas can't grow because the stupid bugs keep eating away the leaves. 🙁 I have put netting over them, but the bugs keep finding a way inside.
