Bromeliad die back after flowering & produce baby plants.

Depending on how old this is there may not be anything wrong. They bloom, have pups, and die. Looks like this one is just starting the second part.

Is she watering the soil? Bromeliads naturally grow on other plants, such as trees, so they really don’t need to be placed in soil. They actually collect water through their leaves. They need to be watered by filling up the center cup with filtered or bottled water, as they are sensitive to the additives in most tap water. I only water the soil just a tiny bit maybe every other time I fill the cup, so the soil isn’t like the Sahara desert. I never saturate the soil enough that it comes out the bottom. The center flower part will eventually die, regardless, but the green portion will remain. Remove the flower once it has been spent, and continue care as usual.
